  1. Oh yes, I should have mentionned... I don't have the "Extra Groundstations". So it's basically KSC to KeoSync to Minmus. I guess that's (one of the reason) why the signal is that bad. I haven't played with the autostrut yet. I kinda assumed anything using Junior Docking Port would still wobble like hell but maybe I should give it a try.
  2. @MoeslyArmlis , I'm curious if you have more information / insight on the actual antenna stacking formula? I'm playing on hard and god-oh-god is that upgrading facility expensive. Upgrading R&D (required for higher power antenna parts) requires ~900K Kredits which will take me a loong grind time. I'd figured I would just spam antenna HG-5 antenna on Keosynchronous comm sat for the moment but that does not work as expected...16 HG-5 in Keosync barely gives me enough signal to reach probe cores around the Mun. Minmus is completly out of range for now. I suspect it could be better if I would spam antennas both ways (on the KeoSync sats AND on the craft on its way to Minmus). But sadly, this is rather impossible with basic facilities and the 30parts/18tons limit.
  3. This... This is brillant! All those useless debris can actually serve a purpose. Have some reps @Temido2222
  4. Orbital velocity of Kerbin is ~2,200 m/s. Sooo... that mean we have to climb 'til 70km THEN get the missing 1,200m/s while above the atmosphere? That's very ineficient and I don't quite see the point. Can you shown up YOUR attempt at this challenge?
  5. Wooop! Sorry about that, it's been a long day. The question still stand @Eagleclawjlv
  6. @zolotiyeruki This challenge looks interesting but I have a lot of questions about the details. Seeing your attempt would help.
  7. How did you manage that? Is that a real game or ypu just hyperedited stuff for two hours? If it is indeed real, you are a monster.
  8. I think you didn't catch my point... The asteroid is in orbit, I'm talking about plane change to get it into an equatorial orbit. Unless I get much MUCH more trust, I'd still need about FIVE HOURS of burns in total to push it by 900m/s. Indeed, converting ore into fuel will remove some mass from the asteroid... but considering that this beast weight 4513 tons it won't make any difference . I could turn ore into fuel for weeks and still it wouldn't make much of a dent in that mass.
  9. Soooo... I did it today, I captured my first class E asteroid. And gosh are those MASSIVE. Long story short, the biggest PULLER design I could come up with has arms 50 meters across and it barely fitted into the VAB... Even then it was completely dwarfed by this class E sheer monstrosity: (capture craft shown is a PUSHER as no puller would ever be able to fit on that beast) This monster is at least 70 meters in diameters and weight 4513t ! For comparison, the puller is about 10m in length. Prior to capture I had a utterly massive 9315m/s delta-v (0.21 TWR) and it shrinked to 134m/s (0.01 TWR) when I grabbed that thing (!!!!). That 134m/s is for about 45 minutes of burn time and I need ~900m/s to get into an equatorial orbit. That's ~5 hours of burn plus the time required to drill and refine the ore. Needless to say I am very tempted to cheat my way out of this...
  10. I am planning the same kind of misson to capture an asteroid that will come as close as 200km (!!!) from Kerbin. I have a puller design with arms 30 meters across that worked quite well on D class asteroid but I fear it won't be enough for a class E. Is there a mod to remotely get information from asteroid? In any case, keep us informed with your progress. And share your designs
  11. ksp OS? What does OS stand for? Operating System?? "kerbal OS kerbal sart menu kerbal internet explorer" --> are you talking about a "ksp start menu" or "ksp internet explorer"? Putting something on a flash drive (or iso disk, whatever) does not magically transform it into a complete operating system. That's not how it works. KSP is a game. Games lack most (if not ALL) of the features required by an operating system. Or maybe I am missing something...-snip-
  12. I have no idea what SOMA is/stand for and googling didn't help. You might want to be more specific? And/or to post your own attempt as an example? Incidendently, you might want to read this:
  13. This challenge needs some serious beefing up. In its current form, it is an easy challenge made hard because of the very long play time required. Plus, it is unclear if/what mod are allowed and how you would rank participants. It is also somewhat required for challenge hoster to post their own attempt at their challenge. You might want to check the submission guide:
  14. Hard to answer without even a look at the plane. When does it "start" becoming unstable is quite important here. It is in the upper layer of the atmosphere? Then it could be explained by the air being too thin for the control surface to work properly... it will fix itself as you go down. It is near the ground? Then check your COM / COL while empty of fuel in the SPH : the loss mass from the expended fuel may have made your craft naturally unstable. Also, are you gliding your way home or are you still under some kind of propulsion? If you are gliding, maybe the air speed is just too low for the control surface to work properly. Or maybe you are simply lacking control surface and that the craft was only able to steer because of engine gimbal. Please provide more details, screenshots..
  15. I agree with @eddiew. My current career is at 10% science with 100% profit and 100% reputation and it is really not that hard. I like having to explore more biome, put science lab everywhere and feed them with tons of data to be able to advance in the tech tree... But contracts are already tedious at 100%, it would be over-grindy at 10%.
  16. Or you put command pods together and use rotating wheels to roll around. From launchpad you should be able to get to VAB and maybe a little farther (shoreline, ...). From runway you should be able to roll to the lowland. If you are really conservative, you might get to the SPH. With that, research the wheel and do the rest...
  17. Completing the science shouldn't be an issue. There is enough Science at KSC alone to get you the tech needed to get to Minmus. Once there, go biome hopping around. About Science at KSC, just build a Science cart on wheel and visit each KSC buildings. Every building, including the flag pole, is a different biome. This challenge might give you some inspiration:
  18. Considering how frustrating it is to simply redirect asteroids in the first place, impacting two is not something most kerbaunauts would define as "fun". I don't think you will have much contender. Can we see your attempt at it?
  19. Here is an example. The plane took me about 15 minutes to put on together and another 15 minutes to land. It worked on my first try.
  20. On Duna, you can just strap some light wings on an ion engine core and land as a glider. Since you don't have to take off again, TWR < 1 would not matter at all.
  21. Some screenshots might help. Otherwise, the general tips apply: MORE BOOSTER
