  1. Same here, I never even noticed it was there. I was half-expecting to get some kind of unique observational science reward for walking to the top and taking an EVA report, oh well... I find it makes a decent short-trip landing and takeoff testing site for crafts that have limited maneuverability. That may not make sense for some, but it would if you were to see any of my terribly designed "planes", if you can call them that. I'm still trying to get to grips with designing things for flight WITHIN atmosphere. I expected planes to be very accessible after many successful rockets, it's turning out to be quite the contrary for me. Interesting landmark, though! -------------- As for myself, I finally got around to ferrying a tourist for a fly-by of the mun and back. I've been capable of doing it for a while now, just couldn't be bothered with actually adjusting my current tourism shuttle design because I had to re-attach some 10+ strut connections and what not, and it was a bit finicky due to placement. Everything was smooth short of re-entry, I've never attempted re-entry with the lander can and more or less expected it to immediately disintegrate (due to the part description), considering my speed of something like 3300m/s. It held up, though, my landing struts burned off due to questionable placement and a momentary lapse of judgement regarding my readouts. I had the can facing orbital retrograde long AFTER I had de-orbited and started burning in, a discrepancy between orbital and surface inclination *just* large enough to sheer off my bottom landing legs, which could have been avoided had I simply switched to surface navigation a bit sooner, or had I just taken manual control for a few moments and tilted the can upwards a bit as the temperature gauge jumped. All in all though, Jebediah did not die, and the VIP was brought in safely. Although, she was probably a bit bruised up considering I landed on a steep hill, and had to watch the lander can roll down a mountainside for about 5 minutes before finally collecting her and Jebediah from the craft. KSC does require tourists to sign a release of liability, right? Pretty fun KSP day, tomorrow is planning for my first munar outpost.
  2. Just today, actually. Picked the game up a long time ago, played for all of a few hours and decided I wasn't enjoying myself and the learning curve was too steep. Fast forward roughly one year, picked it up again and everything just kind of clicked on it's own, figured out how nodes work and figured out how to deal with the semi-buggy map view, grasped TWR, performed a few rendezvous and achieved a decent handle on basic orbital mechanics. A healthy dose of frustration is nice, but everything snowballed rather intuitively after I figured out nodes through extensive trial and error. I'm still taking my KSP baby steps, but the speed I'm progressing has really picked up after getting to the Mun. I blame a good chunk of the prolonged wait on rather poor science tree decisions in early game, though, and I couldn't be bothered to start a brand new career at the time. When I first got the game I jumped straight into Sandbox, and I think that was a mistake for me, it felt purposeless after launching (and destroying) a handful of rockets possessing completely irresponsible amounts of thrust. I feel somehow like I needed career mode all along in order to really care about how things worked in the game, and why. Now I'm considering throwing in an air/water/food mod for extra challenge, I put a space station into 100k orbit around Kerbin but it just feels strange that they're going to be up there indefinitely and won't be requiring a single resupply. Funny too, I recall last year feeling those "this game is far too difficult for me" woes, and if I had spent another mere hour or two I'm sure I would have realized it's not nearly as complicated as it can seem to new players. Now I just feel bad about dropping it for so long, I missed out on a good years-worth of KSP. I could have been set up on Eeloo by now...

Have to post a dropbox link as both Flickr and Imgur simply will not allow me to drop an image link here, and directly throwing the dropbox link in the image link section not only does not allow upload but attempting to do so locks up my browser, and I have to re-open this thread. Probably due to lack of drive space. I've been told dropbox links expire rather quickly, but it's the best I can do to contribute atm. https://www.dropbox.com/s/s1aomwjuhvg1xe9/M2M12.png?dl=0 I wasn't thinking and didn't save a .psd or other copy of it in a format that maintains layering, so it's kind of low quality and I don't have the original to render in non-flag full-resolution, but I had fun cobbling it together with my rather mediocre photo editing skills. Best I have saved is this image, double the resolution of KSP flags for sake of visual fidelity, the actual flag render looks terrible when not viewed in the game. Nothing fancy, will probably revise if this particular career play-through continues to be successful. (Definition of success being purely relative, here... not crashing & burning is something I consider a success, still coming to grips with the game myself.) Cool designs, folks. I'm going to sift this thread front to back sometime, good inspiration for future flag ideas.

I'm late to the KSP party and new to the forums, but prior to making an account here I have followed and read many dev posts, yours included, some of which were incredibly helpful and insightful. I figure this is as good a first post opportunity as any. Although I'm new here and can't fully appreciate the gravity of your involvement in this community as much as long-standing users and those who were in on the ground floor, I respectfully bid you adieu and wish you well. Thank you for your involvement in what I consider easily one of the most inspiring and challenging interactive experiences I will likely see in my lifetime. Cheers, and safe travels.
