  1. Challenge - Lift off from Kerbal and land safely onto the Mun using only SRBs and RCS fuel/thrusters (this means no liquid fuel engines!) Stock parts only, with the exception of MechJeb or Engineer if you want to use them, I know they make repeated launches / tweaking TWR easier. I successfully completed this early this morning at around 4am... Pics in spoilers... The monstrosity that was my rocket... SRBs alone got me into an orbit with a AP of 516KM and a PE of 106KM, from there it was RCS time... TOUCHDOWN!!! Note how much RCS fuel I had left... I was running on fumes! Looks like this was a one way trip for the poor Kerbals! This took about a dozen tries to get right, its not too bad getting to a Mun orbit using only SRBs and RCS, the hard part was getting into Mun orbit with most of a RCS tank left so I could land!
  2. Thank you for taking the time to improve upon this! Not just one MechJeb module, but two! (the symmetry feature always gets me when I add it last...) But yeah, I noted in the picture section that I had a MechJeb module on it for flying but removed it before saving and uploading the ship... Can\'t live without my MechJeb accent module! : 8) (to be fair I probably got 50 rockets into orbit before I found out that MechJeb existed to make my life a little easier)
  3. Description: The Pride of Neptune is a medium-sized rocket that I made that has enough fuel to fly to the Mun, land, fly back to Kerbal, then make a powered landing on Kerbal! Created on the current version 14.4 Staging: The lift-off boosters fall off in groups of 3. All the fuel is routed from the outside boosters inward, so the outside boosters will run out & fall off quickly. If you\'re using MechJeb, you\'ll make it to the standard 100KM orbit with the middle booster still full and 3 radial boosters a little over 1/3 full. Make your way to the Mun via the standard fashion and when you\'re doing your retrograde burn for Mun landing the remaining 3 radial boosters will run out. Toss those and you still have the full 3 tank middle booster to land with. I used it till I was a few meters from landing then tossed it (still had about 1 tank left), put down the landing gear, and touched down with almost all the lander tanks full. When you\'re done hanging out on the Mun, lift off, get into orbit, do your prograde burn for Kerbal transfer. Get into Kerbal\'s gravity, and do a retrograde burn until the Peroapsis is about ~32KM above Kerbal. This will allow you to aerobrake and save fuel. Sometime around here the 2 small external tanks on the lander will run out, toss them and you should be in Kerbal\'s atmosphere with 3 full half tanks to land. Let the aerobraking do its magic, you might have to do some retrograde burning here so you don\'t land in the water like I had to. Throw down your landing gear and do a powered landing on Kerbal! This was my first time landing back on Kerbal this way so I used up a lot of fuel but I still had a little left in 2 tanks! Feel free to add to, modify, alter, whatever! Pictures You\'ll notice a MechJeb module on this, I removed it on the craft I uploaded so its bone stock
  4. Aaaaaand I\'m retarded, did not make rocket long enough ??? Thank you!
  5. Quick question - I\'ve seen a number of people mount the cart frame (Carts Mod here --> http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=8431.0 ) to the side of their rocket so the cart sits vertically on one side. For the life of me I can not figure out how to do this. Is there a different mod needed to achieve this? Thank you for any info!
  6. I updated my post to add detail that this challenge requires you to lift off from Kerbal and travel to the Mun with just LV-909\'s, in case it gave the impression that I was just interested in landed on the Mun from orbit... I\'m talking the whole mission! But yeah, I probably could have lightened the last stage and just went in with 1 engine and gotten back to Kerbal. Oh wow, has someone done this? I tried 7 engines at first (1 in the middle, 6 around it) but that only got me to the Mun with no more fuel to land.
  7. I decided to see if I could do a Mun landing round trip using only LV-909 Engines (the small 50 thrust ones) and it worked! So I am posting this challenge to see if anyone could use fewer LV-909 Engines - and only LV-909 Engines - Lift off from Kerbal, travel to the Mun, land on the Mun, and make it safely back to Kerbal using only stock parts and MechJeb if needed! RULES: - Stock Parts only (With an exception for MechJeb) - Can only use stock LV-909 Engines (RCS allowed for maneuvering) - Need to lift off from Kerbal, travel to the Mun, land safety on the Mun, and then make it safely back to Kerbal SCOREBOARD: 1. 19 Engines - FrankGG 2. 3. 4. 5. Lets see how badly you guys can kick my butt! My Craft I set this craft up so all the engines fire at the start and all the fuel gets transferred from the outside tanks inwards, with 2 tank & engine sections dropping every stage when the fuel is used up. This keeps all the inner tanks full. Touchdown on the Mun! The two outside tanks used up their remaining fuel right as I touched down. (If you noticed that little square thing on the side of my lander, I accidentally left the Engineer add-on part on my craft, all it does it tell you your thrust/weight ratio during craft building in the vehicle assembly building and has no effect on the mission flight) Coming back to Kerbal, I still have 1/3 a tank left! About to splash down back on Kerbal!
  8. The one thing that drives me nuts when trying to build spacecraft in this game is when I\'m trying to build a stack of fuel tanks and that stack is close to another stack (say off a tri-coupler) then KSP always wants to snap my next fuel tank to the tank to the side of it (radial mounting) instead of under the tank above it like I want to do 99.9% of the time... I then have to keep turning my view and hunt for the 1 pixel area that will allow me to snap that fuel tank to the one directly above it. Could the developers please include a way to momentarily disable radial mounts snap-to\'s so it is easier to snap a fuel tank (or whatever) to the part directly above or below it? It could be as simple as making a modifier key like holding down the tab or shift key disables radial mounting snap-to\'s, or if you want to get all fancy you could add a button (like the symmetry button) that you could toggle to get the effect. Thank you for reading my ramblings.
  9. Don\'t get all butthurt, I searched the forum for 'patcher' and didn\'t see anything about it being shut down in the first 30 or so results...
  10. Hello, I just purchased KSP and upon starting it tells me there is a new version, but try as I may, when patcher.exe come up and runs and I enter my user/pass, it comes up with 'Update Error - Unable to connect to update server' I know that the program is not blocked, because if I enter the wrong password for my account, then it will tell me 'Update Error - You are not authorized to do an update. Check your Login info.' Is the update server down or is this a problem? Thank you
