Care to share those plans then? All we have been told is about is some bug fixing and Unity upgrades. So you can hardly blame me if that's all I think you have planned, I'm not psychic.

We'll share them in due time. It's hard not to overpromise when you start looking into the more distant future :)

I think it is only to be expected. There is no roadmap for KSP to continue so it's just in maintenance mode now, no need for the talent to hang around.

I'm glad you have such a well-informed knowledge of facts

There's a lot of plans for KSP still, development isn't stopping by any stretch of the imagination.

  3. As I said before Ted, we'll miss your expertise, drive and friendship here. That said, I think I've gained a friend for life working with you and if you ever drop by the Netherlands again, let me know :)

Sorry, I don't have time to sort through all the postings right now but want to get this out there:

I think there is now a bug where the stock game's scaffolding/rocket launch supports:

    1) no longer extend to the ground and instead always stand about 20 feet tall;

    2) is separated from the ground and does not actually stabilize the unlaunched vehicle;

    3) cannot be staged and does not show up as a stage.

We've seen this happen in a few modded installs, is yours modded? If so then please verify it also persists in a stock version of KSP. If it does, log the bug at http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com :)

2.6.23 - exactly the same situation.

Trying "Previous stable release" option in Steam with no difference: 350 mb downloaded and installed, but the game show me "v1.1.2.1260" and ModuleManager still does not work.

UPD: Steam "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" did not help.

Most likely because Steam wants to start the game with KSP_x64.exe instead of the regular KSP.exe. Try again after deleting the x64 file. (the Previous stable release will downgrade you to 1.0.5)

Absolutely. Joe is a very nice guy ;) It is also very clear in the EULA that you cannot offer a copy to anyone, commercialise KSP or distribute it in any way.

In no way am I trying to go against the EULA or infringe copyright or encourage others to do so. I would like that clear right now.

I am interested in a specific case though, using Steam, my friend could legally share their library with me using (steam family sharing) and I could then, legally, have KSP (the application) in a folder on my computer. The EULA gives me as a license holder the right to copy `the application` (including updates) for my own use if it was legally obtained. Even without that I could also just play that copy under steam family sharing as is.

Hmm, I had honestly never heard of Steam Family Sharing, but I will point out that once you buy a game through Steam, you're also subject to their terms. Do take a close look at that :)

I have a pretty good idea of what the official line will be (@KasperVld might be able to put a boilerplate post in here?), but even without legalities, there's fairly sound IT security reasons for not accepting software from just any old Joe. Or even Joes you know!

I hope that answers questions like this. It's kind of an iffy subject and I don't want to see it go into post-zapping territory.

More than likely wait for the Go message in Announcements, then tell Steam to download the Beta branch. This isn't authoritative, wait for official word from @Ted.

Redistributing any build of Kerbal Space Program is a breach of the EULA and cannot be condoned. Anyone who arranges downloads or offers download links will be banned from the forums and may have their KSP license revoked for breaching the EULA conditions.

    P.S. don't hate on Joe, he's a nice guy, really! ;)

I would love to help Squad, but just don't have the time to do it properly. As a seasoned software dev (20+ years hardcode software development), I know exactly what this will take. Running buggy pre-release software is not fun, it's tedious and takes time and effort. Daily downloads to make sure you're on the latest version. Planning how you want to exercise the game for maximum coverage. Carefully note the problems you encounter, and repeat to make sure you have the repro down. Remember, this should help the Developers: be precise, include screen shots, dig into the logs for specific error messages, run PerfMon to monitor memory usage, use the Debug menu, collect crash dumps, know the directory structure in general, and the layout of the sfs files in particular. It's work, not play. If none of that rings a bell, you might want to pass this by. If only I had more time available...

I would like to quote this for its truth :)

I got ksp on steam a day or two after .21 came out. I launch from the ksp icon not from inside steam. But, I checked the steam thingy and saw NO button or marker for opt in for this beta thing for 1.1. So, its not clear how that works...

This pre-release branch isn't available yet, we have to go through experimental testing first. One it becomes available we'll post information on how to access it.

I don't have a dog in this fight; I'm still playing 1.0.4 and I have never yet played a new version when first released. However, it seems clear that Squad are proposing to break that promise they made in very clear language.

No, the update will release for everyone at the same time. The pre-release branch consists of in-development builds that can and will break in many and unexpected ways. It is meant for people who want to update mods, or help find bugs. As I stated earlier I would not recommend using these versions for regular gameplay.

You do realize that this is extra right? This is tacked on after the normal amounts of experimentalls and QA. At most it will have 25% more bugs than a normal release.

It's up to you to weigh the risks and benefits. We will be very clear about them.

    Our (store users) logic is:

Steam users = extension of the experimentals team

Store users = for teh lolz

Only problem is "teh lolz" would cost an enormous amount of money for very little benefit.

I wouldn't recommend to any Steam user to use the 1.1 pre-release for regular playing of the game. There is a huge range of issues that can (and will) occur in a development build, especially one with an extent of changes to the game that 1.1 brings. Let me stress that the 1.1 pre-release versions should not be considered something that's ready for normal use.

Has anybody mentioned how this post was absolutely unreadable on a cell phone? Why was that?

    I'll look into that tomorrow.

    But I'd like that option...

being part of a community for 3 years and then not being invited to the party, isnt much fun...

I can understand that completely, but we're tied by the laws of reality here :(
