  1. I think my non-USI mods are now down to KAS and EP launchpads. I drown in all the KAS options, I only want simple fuel hoses and struts that can be added in space, I dream of those parts of KAS becoming stock . Really happy about a USI life support. I used TAC for.. years (has it really been that long?) which is great. I had some amazing rescue moments with TAC because put jr docking ports on everything and had small amounts of life support on all my probes "just in case" but I had a few horrible moments too. This one feels more in line with the vision for stock KSP rather than full realism, depth instead of just difficulty.
  2. When flying probe ships or satellites, I cut the engines then time warp to the Apoapsis or a node to make a burn. I always forget to deploy the solar panels before turning the engines off. I try and turn the engines (or solar panels) on later only to realise that I am out of power and cant control the probe . (Why doesn't the KSP forum spell check dictionary have the word "Apoapsis"?)
  3. The non-stock parts are probably related to TAC life support or Remote Tech 2. The station recycles its water and air but still needs food deliveries. The station is surprisingly stable but causes significant slowdown on my pc, especially when all the lights are turned on. The plan was to create a modular spacestation so that I could detach empty fuel/food modules and replace them as required. At the time of the picture the fuel module had not been attached yet because I hadn't unlocked the large fuel tanks. The link below is the exact same picture but without all the pink labels. http://aciai.me/i/TcbPX.jpg
  4. Two things I think are great about kerbal are: 1) It's sandbox with a wide variety of things you can do. Some people enjoy making boats, some like making weapons, some like making planes.. Travelling to other planets isn't the primary focus of everyone. 2) The difficulty scales well because you set your own goals in the area that interests you. The goal is always something just within your reaching distance because you are the one that chose it based on what you can do now. I think you have to be careful about being too enthusiastic because you risk taking away that free-play discovery element of the game by setting challenges too early. When I first got kerbal I was not interested in getting into orbit at all. My primary focus was building a well balanced spaceplane. Later I spent a long time just creating modular spacecraft but not launching them. Building the rockets has always been a low priority for me, so I wouldn't like being directed into rocket related challenges when I was just learning the game. Just show her the basics. - How to load stock rockets/planes. - How to use the vehicle/plane assembly - How to do some simple staging setup with separators. - How to use the jetpack. - Some useful stuff like SAS & RCS. - How to use one of those orbital nodes to plan burns in space. Then give her a link to scott manleys youtube channel and leave her alone, give her some space so she can figure things out herself and explore the areas that interest her most. Later on when you know what part of the game she really enjoys you can look at giving her challenges in that area.
  5. I don't know if it is still the same in 0.21 but If you land in the dark area at the southpole it is very very flat. I had the same problems landing but had no trouble landing on the ice.
