Stock Payload Fraction Challenge: 1.0.5 Edition

Recommended Posts

@Ferdoni Sorry, but that entry doesn't meet the challenge requirements. Specifically:

- Payload must be mounted to a decoupler or docking node and separated from the lifter in a stable orbit with a periapsis of at least 70km. The decoupler/docking port must stay with the lifter.
- Payload must be inert and contribute nothing but incidental body lift and command authority to the lifter (one crewed pod or probe core is ok, its reaction wheel and battery may be used but not its monopropellant, if any). All additional reaction wheels, batteries and fuel tanks in the payload must be disabled via tweakables.

It doesn't look like you separated any payload, and it also looks like you've counted the mass of the engines and fuel tanks used for ascent as payload.

Hi Kerbaunauts,

Here my entry:

This entry is not a record breaker, but more to share with you an concept that I used to transfert crews, landers and satellites to space station or interplanetary vessel.

This is a mix between American space shuttle and Airbus Adeline.

I guess category of that is unlimited, because I used Rapier in AirBreathing mode.

Launch Pad: 351.638T

Orbit: 46.5 T

Payload Fraction = 13.22%

Credit / Ton = 1180

This is improvable since the heat shield of engine, is a esthetic/realistic thing, and Mk3 cokpit is here to transfert crew, which is not counted here.

Any.

Fully recoverable,  but a little bit tricky to land.
(land wit RCS to maintain stability, and land on ~flat survace)

cost 143k, fuel cost ~40k

can lift 30t+
existing since 1.05, full stock.
(no moded parts)

FWIW, this challenge is my benchmark for the level of interest in playing KSP and the overall quality of the game. It's what has consistently showcased the best-of-class design for the last several versions.

Seeing entrants here is one of my primary ways of knowing that the game is interesting and worth picking back up and playing.
