Speaking Kerbalese

I don't know about you, but that continent the KSC is on kind of looks like South America. And since Kerbin is an analog to Earth, it makes sense they would develop a similar language.

maybe reversed Spanish is an optimal, either local or global in the calculus sense, language and gradually all space faring races converge towards it. given the nature of kerbals i'm not too surprised that they optimized language before ... other things.

Except that the language of South America was brought by Spanish invaders. KSC looks nothing like Spain.

You guys are arguing with a man who thinks that languages are developed based on the shape of a continent. Be careful.

Kerbalese is not reversed Spanish. Spanish is reversed Kerbalese!

And FWIW, Spanish, like most Western languages, is really just a local dialect of Latin. The KSC home continent looks nothing like Italy.

Best,

I know it's backwards Spanish, but how on Kerbin could the Kerbals develop this with no contact with Earth/Mexico/Spain?

Likely it's the other way around. Kerbals have been visiting Earth for centuries now. Maybe millennia. Who but Kerbals would even consider routinely flying aerodynamically and graviationally unfeasible designs that defy all known laws of physics (a.k.a. just about every U.F.O. ever 'sighted')?

Actually, it's a translation. Real 'Kerbali' sounds nothing like what we hear the Kerbals say, and the translator chose backward Spanish to preserve the 'feel' and 'sense' of their utterances.

"But," you say, "that doesn't make sense! Translations should be sensible, not gobbledegook!"

No. Translations should reflect the source material. And here we have the secret of KSC: the Kerbals are all just screwing with each other by using their own form of an obtuse Pig Latin whose only real use is telling jokes, insults, and confusing the listener.

What Kerbals who aren't doing this sound like, nobody knows. First you'd have to find one not affiliated with the Kerbal Space Program. Rumour has it there's a settlement at the deepest point of Kerbin's ocean...
