Would you want a The Martian prequel, sequel, or nothing?

I'd like a prequel with Ares I and II. NOT a sequel. I can't see how it would continue.

I don't think it needs a direct sequel/prequel. Another book in there same timeline, maybe with one or two recurring characters (old Whatney?).

Now that would be something.  I think that The Martian is better alone, a prequel probably wouldn't be very interesting to non space geeks because nothing would really go wrong.

I'd like a prequel showing the Beginning of the Ares program, all the way to the Ares 3 launch.

Maybe we could have a sequel? Permanent base on mars, someting goes awry, crew has to get to defunct space station to get home. Maybe Jurassic Park francise style.....

I could see there being like a fact book with diagrams on how the spacecraft and surface infrastructure works but i dont want to see either a prequel or a sequel.

Andy Weir did say that he is writing another book unrelated to The Martian and it uses more traditional (unexplainable by actual science) sci-fi technologies. I'm looking forward to this!

I would probably read this (and watch the movie) but nothing else. The story does not need or even suggest anything even remotely like a direct sequel.
