Radial Vectors

Recommended Posts

  1. Take the Vector engine
  2. add a Radial attachment housing, similar to the Thud engine
  3. prevent the gimbals from turning inward
  4. profit.

practical application: offers radially attached vectors in conjunction to a central stack engine, such as Rhino or Mammoth.
suggested name is "Thump" -- Thud's bigger brother.

Why not do this?

usually, I'd use "Tail Connector B" for that, but it'd still require fuel ducts. I'd rather eliminate the need of increasing the part count.

anyway, I like the design, but give the idea some thought, tho will ya?

I use nosecones for radially mounting engines, doesn't seem to need fuel ducts.

AFAIK this works for any surface-attachable non-fuel-bearing part as long as it allows crossfeed and has an attachment node for an engine.

I just tested this.  You don't need fuel ducts to use the engines attached to Tail Connector B's in such a configuration.

Whether this will still be the case after resource flows are re-done is anybody's guess.  I suppose this would still have to work if craft are to remain operable after that update.

Happy landings!

eta: The fuel flow rules are very arcane.

You can just attach the Vector radially to the tank, rotate it and put a nose cone on it. It makes it attached to the fuel tank directly, so the engines don't need fuel ducts. It's super easy if you use the rotation and offset tools.
