A Launch Escape System for the Mk1 pod

Recommended Posts

I like to use LES's to save my kerbals in case of disaster, but there none in the stock game for Mk1 pods. I know that some people don't like to use Launch Escape Systems, but there's one for the Mk 1-2 already. Thoughts?

It is fairly easy to make one yourself. I'm still not sure why was it added to the game. I don't recall myself using it at all tbh.

It was added to the game because the Mk1-2 is an Apollo look-alike and they wanted it to well... look alike.

Personally, I would prefer if they would improve the current one before adding more since it lacks power and duration, or a radical increase in one or the other. Since the purpose of the LES in real life it to drag the crew up and AWAY from the rocket in the event of a failure but right now all it does for me is drag my capsule slightly up and to the side a few meters by the time the LES cuts out which leaves me 10m from the rocket a distance that in real life would be unacceptable, Granted this is KSP and not in real life so it's to be expected to be slightly less, but still I would expect it to be at least closer to 50m or at least 25m from the spacecraft as that would at least do the job effectively of getting your kerbals away from the rocket as it soars (or explodes) away. Due to it's poor thrust/burn time, it can neither get it away at an acceptable speed to let it coast far enough UP to get away and not enough burn time to get it AWAY from the rocket so it fails in multiple accounts for me.

So I would prefer the fix the current one before making another one.
