Torque adjustement slider (like gimbal)

Recommended Posts

I recently applied a mass reduction to the Mk2 Lander-can, so this cabin is now useful.

I proudly build a lander an send it to the Mun. But I noticed the power drain was ultra high even I was only following retrograde. I switch the MJ smart ass and there was only a very small power drain.

The MK2 lander can torque is too high for a medium weight lander (5 to 10 tons). The SAS over react and eat all the electricity and even fail to stay on the correct orientation.

As gimbal can be tweaked even in flight, all reaction wheels and pods with reactions wheels should have a slider do reduce torque value so the SAS wouldn't over compensate.

As an alternative, SAS could be made more intelligent...

This is definitely something I'd be pleased to see - the reaction wheels inside a Mk1 command pod, for example, are okay if you've got lots attached to it, but are far too strong to be useful for the pod on its own (even in "soft" control mode).

Your ignoring the main problem of the stock sas. No need to tone down the reaction wheel just need to fix sas. In most of these situtation caps lock does a pretty good job for me.

I never noticed a significant improvement using caps lock. Power drain is still ultra high, and vibration is not reduced.

MechJeb Smart Ass power drain is (literally) 100x less when simply following retrograde. The difference is Smart Ass has a more intelligent retro action. It maybe slower, but doesn't overcompensate.
