Can KSP 64 Bit Run On My 64 Bit Mac?

Recommended Posts

KSP 1.1 and up is by default 64 bit if your OS is 64-bit. You can check in Activity Monitor when you run it and it should confirm this.

KSP 1.0.5 (if for some reason you need or want to use 1.0.5) is only 32-bit, but is hackable to work with 64-bit Unity files (there is a reddit thread that tells you how to do this, IIRC.

So you shouldn't need any launch parameters at all.

Yep, that is correct. I've been running it since the start of the public 1.1 betas and it's great: runs smoothly, handles larger craft more efficiently, lets you finally break the 3.5 GB memory wall, and most important it's stable. I've had exactly two crashes since the start 5 weeks ago or so, and both were mod-related per my logs.

Yeah I did notice a MAJOR improvement from 1.0.5, but my poor little MacBook Air with it's pitiful 4 gigabytes of RAM and 1.4Ghz processor hates me for running Kerbal Space Program. Would anyone know how I could make it not use 3.99GB of ram?

Cut some mods?

I haven't really delved into mods yet. Which is probably why I am always surprised by other people's RAM usage. I have 16GB available, acquired at vast, vast expense (ECC 800 with huge heatsinks) and KSP never even seems to break the 2GB barrier.

Hmm... I do have some mods. I don't know why it's slow. What are your settings?

Default mostly, AFAIK.
