Cannot download - "server migration" - I've tried everything

UPDATE: Aaaand I just realized this post is nearly a duplicate of "Unable to download from KSP site store - Site under maintenance for Migration?" So maybe it's just heavy server load. But it's been going on for so long...

I log onto the website and try to download KSP from the store via the "download now" link. But I keep getting the "Sever Migration" page.

I Googled this and found some info, but I've tried everything and it didn't work:

  • I tried resetting the DNS cache on the Windows computer (ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns); didn't fix it.
  • I tried using the direct IP address (https://85.236.103.6/en/) but that doesn't bring up an active page any more.
  • Same problem happens on both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on my Windows 10 PC.
  • Tried the same process with a Macintosh / Safari and had the same issue; so Windows isn't the problem.
  • Tried the same process with an iPhone over the LTE network (just to prove it wasn't my WiFi router or something) and had the same problem.
  • Had the same problem yesterday and today, so it's not just a passing phase.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to kerbalspaceprogram.com
  2. Click "store" and https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/kspstore/ shows up just fine.
  3. Log in, I get the "Welcome Back" message just fine.
  4. Click "my account" and go to the page with the products I've bought
  5. Click the "download" link and I get taken to the "Ready to Download" page https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/download.php?od=xxxxxxx
  6. Click any one of those links and I get taken to the "Server Migration" page, for example at https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/lib/highwindsDwn.php?version=win-1-1-2

So, yeah, I've tried everything I can think of. Help! How can I get a download?

Hi Hooloovoo,

Have you made sure your hosts file does not have any custom settings for KSP? When this problem occurs it sometimes helps to force a hard refresh when you see the server migration page (you can do this by pressing control+f5). If all that doesn't help, please send an email to [email protected] :)

I also get the server migration page when going directly to this link: https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/lib/highwindsDwn.php?version=win-1-1-2

I don't have an account but that looks like a maintenance gate has been enabled while maintenance was being done that happens before any authentication.

Could this have something to do with the issue the night before last when both the forum and bug tracker (and presumably the store too though I don't use it so didn't check at the time) disappeared for at least half an hour at about midnight GMT?  Most likely I would have thought was that something was "fixed" and somebody forgot to disable the maintenance redirect...

Edit: actually that link is the maintenance page itself, so I can't tell what link is actually being requested that is causing the redirect (assuming the links on the download page aren't direct to the maintenance page for some odd reason).

Update in case anyone else is having the same problem: still no change. Emailed support on Friday but haven't heard back yet. Attempted downloads a few times a day and still no luck. :-/

The timing is a bit unfortunate, but there are no office hours during the weekend so that would explain why you haven't had a response yet :)

Update: I did hear back from Support on Monday.

Support says "This appears to be a problem between your ISP and our download server" and suggested trying a different internet connection. They also offered to transfer to Steam credits or provide a refund.

I do appreciate the offer for the Steam transfer and I plan to take them up on it. But I think they're flat-out-wrong about the problem being between the ISP and their server. I've tried three different internet connections, all with the same result. And now EnderKid2 is having the same problem.
