[1.2.X] Antares Solar System

Recommended Posts

This planet pack adds 1 red giant star, 2 other stars, 4 planets, 2 moons, and 2 asteroids

ANTARES: Antares is a red giant about 10x the size of Kerbol, and orbits very far away, making use of FTL-Drive mods out there. Also has 3 planets.

PALOMA: This binary companion to Antares was named after the kerbal who discovered it. It's big, blue, and it's gonna die soon.

TERRAN: Terran is quite small, a bit smaller than Dres, and it is a slight reddish color. Terran is Paloma's only planet, and it is in a tight orbit.

CORBID: Corbid is a relatively large gas giant, which has a particularly strong calming effect on all kerbals who witness it's red and beautiful glory.

COASTER: A habitable moon with little land. It used to be an ice world, but when Antares started to die, Coaster warmed up.

RETCHID: Retchid is the outer moon of the Corbid system. It is a large asteroid, about the size of Minmus. Retchid was captured by Corbid's gravity.

MALUM:  Malum is a T2V brown dwarf, with 27x Jool's mass. It creates a barycenter between it and the Antares-Paloma barycenter. It lies between Corbid and Jerren.

EROS: Eros is a habitable desert planet with a tiny ocean, Eros is like this because it is very cold for a desert, sort of like Antarctica, but less cold.

ARGO-KERSA: Although it sounds like a binary, it's not. Argo and Kersa are in a Horseshoe orbital configuration with each other.

JERREN: Jerren is a nice, blueish-teal ice giant. Unlike it's smaller brother, it has no discovered moons nor does it have an effect on kerbals.

THANKS TO:

ProtoJeb21 for making the configs I used in this mod in his mod IARevived.

KNOWN BUGS:

There are lighting issues in map view on most planets, but once you get an orbit, they go away.

The atmospheres of the Gas Giants are glitched, but Coaster's is normal.

Oh, that's unfortunate. I saw this 4min after it was first posted, it was apparently a new Star system I think. I first thought this was an Antares-rocket mod sonehow, since I just came from the "rathe the antares thread", lol. :D

Hope to see this up again soon...

Oh, I'm going to make an Email account on my PC and see if it works.

Also I named the red giant in the pack after a real life red super-giant, called Antares.

Edit: The Email-on-PC thing didn't work.

Like, the link that takes you to spacedock?

If yes, just go to the spacedock website (My mod is actually the newest) and find it, and download it from there.

If no, then it's probably the download that's broken, and I don't know how to fix that.

I can't download it (Crap amount of RAM/Storage), I was browsing the mods, and I found yours, but when I clicked on the link that would take me here, it just refreshed the Space Dock page I was on.

Like, when you click on it on the Forum page button, it just takes you back to the SD ASS page?

I will assume the latter and say I don't know how to fix that.

2 concerns about formatting of the post.

1. You should add screenshots to the post, not links to imgur.

2. It would also be good if you added an image of how all the stars are orbiting relative to each other.

To make the post above more helpful, in case you don't know how, you can embed imgur images by going to the image and getting the direct link (the one with .png, for example), copying into the page and pressing enter. At that point it should auto-embed. The other way to do it is to click the 'Insert other media' button in the bottom right of the new post box, then click 'Insert Image from URL' and put the direct link in there.

If you want to insert an album, click the little 'i' button on the right of the top bar, and put in the letters on the end of the URL (the bolded bit: http://imgur.com/a/HWDgG)

It looks like a really cool mod! :)

@electricpants Some constructive criticism from my testing of your mod:

  • Antares A and Antares B are supposed to be separated by over 1,000 AU in real life. Try to spread Antares and Paloma apart from extra realism and to keep the system from being too compact and deadly.
  • Terran is WAAAAAAAY too close to Paloma for it to even be a solid. Also, did you remember to update its textures with Kittopia?
  • The two gas giants, the brown dwarf, and Retchid all have great textures. Coaster looks nice, too, but a texture made with Kittopia will elevate it to the level of quality that the other planets share.
  • Are the outer gas planets orbiting Paloma? If so, try to put them around Antares. It can't be the Antares Solar System if half of the mod's objects orbit another star!

Anyways, good job, and congrats for getting featured on Modding Monday!

Cool, another bunch of places I'll install but probably never visit :)

I always intend to get past Jool, but something keeps holding me back!

It's that Joort cloud, isn't it?

does this require Kopernicus?

Yes, this does require Kopernicus.

The outer Gas Giants are closer to Paloma, so Paloma is shining it's light on them, instead of Antares. But yes, they do orbit Antares.

Alright, I'll separate them. I put them closer together on purpose, though.

Once I separate Paloma, I'll put Terran farther away from Paloma.  And no, I didn't because I don't even have Kittopia.

That sounds good, I'll get Kittopia so I can change Coaster's texture from made from MS Paint (literally) to actually a good texture.

Pretty good for a first mod... I can't even figure out Kopernicus ( I can make a boring gas giant and move Eeloo into orbit around it, but if I try to make a simple moon everything breaks down), so in my opinion it's pretty impressive that you made a whole star system with decent maps (can't do those either) as your first mod.

I recommend embedding the images as an album, it's much neater they way. It's not hard- you don't even need a free account. Just make an album by uploading all the pictures at once, edit the titles and descriptions to tell us what the pictures are of (there should be a button), and click the "i" icon in the forum topic editing page and paste the code at the end in the box.(Ex: http://imgur.com/a/UDNok)

Unfortunately I do not have a FTL mod, so I will have to use the "world's greatest launcher"- hyperedit

Also, I don't mind the inaccurate distances- it's up to you how realistic you want your mod to be.

Thanks! I did use a different planet pack as my template, but once I make enough of these, I won't need that anymore. I also prefer what I have for Imgur stuff right now. The reason why most of the stuff here has good textures is because of selenas/asteroids in Space Engine.

Hey great work thus far electricpants and I agree with ProtoJeb21's recommendations. On a side note I really do not care for this mode taking over my main menu screen with a gas giant I would prefer to Keep Kerbal. This may seem insignificant but for some reason it really bothers me, since it comes across a tad bit proprietorial., just sayin.

Excellent start keep it up...
