Share your favorite quotes! Funny quotes, inspiring quotes, all kinds of quotes! The other threads like this I found we're all 3-4 years old, so I figured it'd be better to make a fresh one. Here are a few of mine:

"We began as wanderers and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars." -Carl Sagan

"No different. Different only in your mind." -Yoda

"If this end is pointing to space you will have a very bad time and you will not go to space today." -Randall Munroe

Most of the quotes I can think of are from the YouTuber Lost Pause, none of them are suitable for the forums :D

But here's a forum-suitable one.

"Failiure is an option here. If things are not failing, then you are not innovating enough." Elon Musk.

stock piston is RIP, stock spring gets you ~80FPS, rest of the driveline shreads from the resulting PME...keep trying to fire it to unlock it, gears go rip, any mosfet burns, wires catch fire, then a black hole to hell opens up and swollows everyting - @Wingman703 over Steam chat about airsoft. It's what happens when you put a dual sector gear (high rate of fire) into a non-modified airsoft gun. I've simplified what it's about because I don't want a wall of text.

My current signature quote is among my favorites:

"You cannot learn a thing you THINK you know." I don't know if someone said it originally but I got it from the narrator of Darkest Dungeon.

Another fave:

"If you really want to do something, nothing can stop you. If you really DON'T want to do something, anything can stop you." Again, I have no idea who said it first.

And another:

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do learn from history are doomed to watch OTHERS repeat it."

One more, and I'm fairly sure I made this one up but wouldn't be surprised to find I accidentally stole it from someone else:

"Teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime. Give a man a fish, he'll complain about the quality of his free fish."

There are a few quotes that I always defer to. I will warn you that some are political in nature or may have been said by political figures, but it does not change the fact they are great pearls of wisdom.

  • "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt, U.S. President, (1858-1919)
  • "Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude." - Alexis de Tocqueville, French Political Philosopher and Historian, (1805-1859)
  • "Humanity has the stars in its future, and that future is too important to be lost under the burden of juvenile folly and ignorant superstition." - Isaac Asimov, (1920-1992)

Sorry to burst your bubble but it's "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for life.", It's a British term first coined by Anne Isabella Ritchie in a story she made called Mrs. Dymond in the early 19th century.

But technically you have a different quote... So it is yours!

My personal favorite:

Quote

"If we ought not to fear moral truth, still less should we dread scientific truth.  In the first place it cannot conflict with ethics... But if science is feared, it is above all because it can not give us happiness... Man, then, can not be happy through science but today he can much less be happy without it.   Science is facts.  Just as houses are made of stones, so is science made of facts.  But a pile of stones is not a house and a collection of facts is not necessarily science." - (Jules) Henri Poincare, La Science et l'Hypothèse (Of Science and Hypotheses), 1901

@adsii1970, these two also...

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." - Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman orator, statesman 42 B.C.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill

Actually, my quote is a spin on the original, which I did know about :)

Actually, the complete phrase is "trying to use tags on mobile is like trying to use a brick in place of antivirus software", but it's too long to show up in full in most (all?) cases.

It shows up if you hover the mouse cursor over it.

A new quote!

That's a pretty good one. But I don't want to be stuck on this rock! I want to be able to go ride other rocks through space! Here's another funny one:

Actually, my favorite funny surreal quote is the one in my sig, and as far as I know it's my own original quote. I suppose it was somewhat inspired by Star Trek IV, where Kirk reminds his companions to remember where they parked

"Now where on Earth did I park my Spaceship"
