Game lags every few seconds

Recommended Posts

As I'm playing, my game seems to stutter / pause for 0.5-1 seconds every 10-20 seconds. I have plenty of RAM available still, and my CPU isn't getting anywhere close to max, so I'm wondering what could be causing the issue? I'm running 1.1.3 and here is my mod list:

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: after some additional searching, I've found lots of references to garbage collection causing this, however, I've never experienced this before, even with a nearly identical mod list on 1.1.2, so I'm wondering if something changed?

The OP is right.  It's garbage collection.  There is no fix for as its a unity thing.  There is a "mod"  named memgraph that helps supposedly.  This happens with large mod builds. More mods=more garbage so the collection process happens more often.  This will happen especially when you have a lot of part mods in your gamedata.  I suggest thinning them out or just removing the ones you don't really need

This will happen regardless of how good your specs are. Nobody is safe from the gc.

As Galileo & OP stated it is garbage collection and one of the few fixes (not a panacea or perfect fix either) is the Mod Memgraph, however if you use it with a large mod pool you should also turn up the padheap setting to a larger limit allowed by installed memory.

First run KSP with it installed, increase the resolution (Alt+) load a heavy part count ship, and check your number for max, it will climb the longer the game is on. and the stutters will be graphed as red lines spikes.  This red line is the garbage collection. Likely with your list your above 2gig even at start. Now exit and edit the padheap.cfg at [...\Kerbal Space Program\GameData\MemGraph\PluginData\MemGraph\padheap.cfg]

The padheap.cfg last line [total  : 2048] to a larger but within your RAM limit number, for instance if you have 8gig, you might set this number to 4096, since OS operation and other programs are likely to stay less than 4gig.

As a note [ALT * ] turns off the memgraph display, but not its functions.

You may still have some stutter but duration and frequency will go down.

If it's not a problem, try putting this into Launch Options before you launch the game:

-force-opengl

With all of those mods, this will definitely reduce memory leakage. Any background processes that are running could be drawing some power to it. Close those off.

If that doesn't work, reduce your graphics in the game until it's suitable to your tastes (pretty looking?) and isn't laggy anymore.
