Tourists in Sandbox?

Recommended Posts

I..only play sandbox. I go full on out so I would expend ALL funds in one launch. :P So I usually only play sandbox. Some things I build are passenger craft. But getting full blown kerbalnauts just to sit in a cabin. So is it possible to put tourists, and by extension other Career elements, as I want to see ALL the staff in the KSC

That's not possible, no. You can, however, play Career mode instead! :P

And that's no even a joke, because making themselves a "career sandbox" is actually something that people do. Start a career save, hit Alt+F12. Cheat yourself large amounts of money and science. Upgrade all the buildings. Go into R&D, and unlock all tech nodes. Voila: all parts and all building features are available right from the get-go, as is practically infinite money. And yet, you have all the career trappings. There's tourist contracts, all the buildings are accessible and functional, and so on and so forth.

The only thing that is different is that Kerbals don't have level 5 in all three professions by default. You have to train them first. There may be mods that help with that though.

I'm not sure that there's a way to get the cash cows tourists to appear in the sandbox (unless they are cats! Ha ha) but can I urge you to give career mode one more try?

I was a committed Science Mode player until I watched a couple of tutorial videos by Marcus House (YouTube) giving tips on speeding through the early career game. Since then my Science saves have been left untouched and I've enjoyed doing things that Ive never gotten around to trying before (landed on Duna and captured an astroid).

Of course, there is no "right" way to play KSP (one of the reasons I love it so much) but I now have the enthusiasm of a convert towards the career game!

There's no need for mods; uncheck the 'Kerbal Experience' box in the difficulty settings and that will give you 5-star professionals.

@Spacetraindriver:  That doesn't mean that there aren't great mods to try if you want to enhance the experience.  If you are interested in the idea of tourists and touristy stuff, you might consider trying out Tourism Plus by @nightingale.  The picture in the opening post should tell you everything you need to know about whether you want to try it; the contract pack is geared to the idea of tourist attractions that make money for the Space Program (naturally: it is Career Mode, after all), so it loses a bit if you aren't playing for money, but it may supply you with a lot of entertainment if you like the challenge.

... Especially the space casino.  That one is insane.

You can "create" Kerbals in the debug F12 menu.

If you do decide to give career a try, you can adjust the difficulty settings to give you ridiculous amounts of science, money and rep for completing missions and running experiments. Alternatively, as was mentioned above, you could just cheat in a bunch of money and science and still have all the career gameplay.

EDIT: After looking into it, I'm actually not sure you can make tourists in the debug. If you're willing to do some work, however: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:Modifing_Kerbals
