[1.2.2] Mil Mi-24 Hind Cockpit

Mil Mi-24 Hind Cockpit [1.2.2 compatible]

This is (currently) a single-part mod that adds (as the name suggests) a command pod in the form of the Mi-24 Hind cockpit. 

Not much else to say really......

To-Do List:

  • Hatch/airlock and Ladders
  • IVA
  • Different cockpit variants
  • Cargo/Crew bay
  • Side-Exit Exhausts 

Installation:

Copy the "Hind" folder into your GameData folder.

 

Acknowledgments:

@Invader_guy for the original model and textures.

@blackheart612 for most (if not all) of the unity exporting, retexturing and config editing.

For some reason I cannot download this. It takes me to a blank dropbox page.(nevermind this. seems to be on my end.)

 

As for suggestions: mk3 cargo/crew section with the gull wing doors and ramps. Tweakscale compatibility for the cockpit and future possible parts.

I've added a CurseForge download link, and will be adding the mod on SpaceDock as well. I'm currently working on a cargo/crew section, and hope to get that finished soon(ish).

Here's the one I've been working on. Had to add a tweakscale patch and scale it down a bit.. the mk3 parts are at 3m to make it a more 1:1 "replica".

Looking at that picture I can say with some confidence that the model for the hind cockpit is a bit too long. (At least in my opinion.) I had to place one of the windows on it, and that's about where the gullwing doors should start, and take up 2 windows worth of space on each side. For a close to 1:1 replica, at any rate. I'm sure the length is fine for others. I think if it was shortened on the backside by about a half meter or so it would be just about perfect. :D However, as this is the only Hind cockpit that exists and I've been wishing for one FOREVER, I'm not about to make this a complaint. Just suggestions.

Both spot-on replicas! 

Im currently working on a cargo/crew bay with half gull-wing doors(see photo below). I will try to model the "A" variant of cockpit, but that will take longer.

As for weapons, I will possibly wait until the future, as BD Armoury (and expansions) have most of the weaponry required.

the extra length is there because the real Hind is narrower than the MK3 shape and it looked kinda weird if I made that part become wider in such a short area so I made it longer to make the transition smoother.

the nodes on the top are a lot bigger than they should be too, in order to match the 1.25 size.

 

maybe that could be fixed by drawing the hatch there(?) or idk, it's not really that much of a problem

Like I said, not a complaint really. Just an observation. You could probably cut it shorter and then give the end a bit more angle to hit the mk3 form factor or  build Hind-specific parts if you felt froggy. As it is I can make it work. :) I tweakscaled it and the mk3 parts down to 3m so that I could get a more 1:1 replica.

 

There's that M2 cargo thing in B9 (I think? Maybe SXT) that is about the same shape as Mk3 but a bit thinner, too.

No it would be best to keep it mk 3, cause then you could use this system with a whole lot more stuff that way (more awesome mk 3 vtols come to mind), kinda like how tantares made it with a lego fashion in mind

Note the nose with integrated flir and gun mount.

I will be working on making variations of the standard Hind cockpit, however they will not include FLIR or other weaponry. BD armoury already covers this (but I might consider it in the future.).

The development of this mod will be slow and steady, so please bear with. :D

Fair point, although I can imagine the part count on your creation is quite high. :mellow:

It all depends on what you seek in the experience. I was very unhappy when the performance gains in the early dev version of 1.2 were lost. My stock helicopter ran a lot quicker then, as opposed to 1.1.3 and the final 1.2.
