Kerbal amateur rocket team. (KART)

The KART team had just formed, with a team of 5 people building and launching rockets with the hope of reaching space one day.

They rented the KSC's launchpad for their experiments, considering that the government had taken control on the KSC two years before. Since then, there had been no new launches or space activity since then. The KSC had plenty of spare parts left over, so they let the KART use the launchpad and some other guidance equipment.

The first rocket was named the "Discoverer I," and it discovered alright. It was a very successful launch.

Liftoff! 1000 meters and counting.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.08.46 PM

The ship starts to fall slowly back to Kerbin. Unfortunately, the jolt of the launch broke the altimeter after they went past 5000 meters, but the KART judged that it went about 6500 meters into the sky.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.09.31 PM

The ship, with no parachute on board, smashes into the ocean. the KART went to the crash site later that day and sent a diver down to recover the black box, which was still intact and showed the KART some major problems with their rocket.

1. The rocket had no parachute.

2. the altimeter broke, which means it needs to be bolted down more,

3. the ship had no control. It just went wherever it wanted to. The fins were just for stability.

and finally,

4. They need science equipment.

Therefore, they launched "Discoverer II."

The same rocket, just with a parachute, better bolted altimeter, and thermometer.

Right after liftoff, the rocket turned and started downrange to the south. It was a tilt of about 30 degrees, and was out of control again.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.22.26 PM

The jolt of the parachute opening actually fried the altimeter again. This time the KART found that the parachute opening had severed a wire that fed the altimeter.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.24.38 PM

Splashdown!

The KART, with their altimeter broken AGAIN, calculated that the rocket made it at least to the 6000 meter mark, then started feeling the effects of gravity.

Early the next morning, the KART was up early, working on solid rocket fuel vs liquid rocket fuel. They knew from Werner Von Kerman's calculations that Solid fuel burned out faster then liquid fuel, and you couldn't control the thrust. However, they also Knew that the initial thrust was huge.

After obtaining a "Flea" Solid booster from Werner, they attached a guidance unit, and put it on the launch pad. This ship was dubbed the "Endeavor I."

After a quick inspection, the ship's engine was ignited, and WOOOOSSSSHHH!! Off it went in a flight of sparks and flame.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.49.40 PM

The ship soared into the sky like... Well, like a rocket. The engine spewing thrust and fire, reached a speed of 1029.2 M/s and an altitude of 078,034 Meters.

However, they had not planned for getting into space, so they didn't install a heat shield. They also didn't add a parachute.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.51.17 PM

(The next day, people all over Kerbin reported seeing a red flaming object fall towards the ground, and after speculation, the KART announced that yes, it was their rocket.)

After re-entry, the sad part came. Watching their creation crash into the ground at nearly 300 M/s.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.51.38 PM

The explosion rocked the earth, and shrapnel was thrown in all directions. When the KART arrived at the crash site to see if they could recover anything, they reported seeing a dead squirrel with a piece of metal shrapnel next to it. This worried the wildlife conservationists, who concluded that if the KART continued killing wildlife with their contraptions, they would have to shut the rocket team down.

After this victory, the KART was everywhere. TV, newspaper, magazines, and by word of mouth all over Kerbin. Here they were, 20 years old and launching things into the sky.

Although the KART's solid fuel rocket blew up, they had made history. It was the first craft under 2 tons to achieve an altitude of 75 Meters or more. They were also the first privately owned company on Kerbin that had achieved an altitude of 75 meters or more.

The next day, at about 12:00 noon, a tragedy occurred.

The KART had just concluded launches of Discoverer III, Discoverer IV, and Discoverer V, which only reached an altitude of 6000 meters max.

after the launch of Discoverer VI, a club member arrived with a tractor trailer and opened up the back. What the members saw made their jaws drop. Inside was a rocket, using the Hybrid Rapier dual cycle engine. The club was so excited. They unloaded the craft, set it up on the launchpad, made the final checks, and launched.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 1.13.47 PM

Right after the liftoff, the team knew something was TERRIBLY wrong. The ship veered to the west, and started heading directly for the VAB.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 1.14.34 PM

Frantically, the pilot tried to remotely veer the ship back, but it was too late. The ship whacked into the VAB, causing a large hole close to the roof. The team sighed a breath of relief.

The damage was great, but it could be repaired. Then, like the great building was reading their minds, the VAB slowly creaked, and with a horrid grinding sound it collapsed.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 1.14.38 PM

After the collapse there was a terrible explosion as the rocket parts inside the building erupted with flame and sparks. It didn't take long for the whole building to set on fire.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 1.14.46 PM

The team stood there mortified while alarms sounded and firefighters doused the building in foam. After 3 hours, the fire had been entirely extinguished.

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 1.19.55 PM

The VAB was now a giant metal skeleton.

Of the 150 people inside the VAB, 57 perished, and 90 were seriously injured, including Werner von Kerman and Gene Kerman, who were looking over a engine design that day.

3 Kerbals were also treated for minor injuries and dismissed.

All of a sudden, all eyes pointed to the KART. It was like a giant hand came down from the sky and hovered right over the launchpad and the poor men who stood there weeping.

The police, after finding fragments of the R.A.P.I.E.R. Engine inside the wreckage arrested the members of the KART.

(To be continued)

Well guys? Do you like this upgrade of the KECC story? What do you think will happen to the members of the KART? Let me know. I can't wait for your replies.

Why did they even arrest the KART anyways? During launches all kerbals are in the bunkers (that maybe have been my fault after one of my ships with 256 rtgs exploded after launch. Don't ask) Also, they're Kerbals. Kerbals are meant to explode things. Plus, Kerbals drink Hydrazine, so they probably drink Hydrogen Peroxide like water... I hope the KART doesn't bring a drink with them to jail, because then the jail might "accidentally" have a rapid unscheduled disassembly... :D

Yeah, well, this time the Kerbals were stupid. Most of them weren't in the bunkers.

So, yeah. 57 of them are dead. *waah*

Besides, don't Kerbals drink Nitro glycerin?

MOD LIST:

(In case ANYONE wanted to know)

  • Ven's stock revamp,
  • MK 1-2 interior,
  • MK-1 interiors,
  • Buffalo rovers,
  • Raster prop monitor,
  • MK-2 expansion,
  • BD armory, (Don't ask. It will come later in the story)
  • KIS,
  • KAS,
  • and ship parts. (Also don't ask. It will come later.)

Maybe they confused bunkers and bunk beds? And instead they decided to sleep in? :D

Killed In Action The Vab

Walt is probably still yelling about it...

The other day Jeb was putting Chlorine Trifluoride in the air freshener... If they drink Nitroglycerin I wouldn't be too surprised...

If you're playing ksp and you need a mod to blow stuff up you're not doing something properly... :D

DAY 2:

The KART has now been in a cell for a day and a night. Early the next morning, an embarrassed looking police officer and a bandaged Werner von Kerman arrived. The members of the team stood up quickly, wondering what this was all about. To their surprise, the officer sheepishly unlocked the door and motioned for the KART to step out.

After an escort by Werner, they were met by Gene, on crutches. Shaking each KART members hand, he led them outside.

After getting in a waiting limo, Werner talked to the members of the KART.

"Hello My friends. You may be vondering vat zDs is all about. You blew up our VAB, and we are releasing you. Well, Dis is why."

Werner took a folder and put in on the table in front of the members.

"Dis. ZDs is why we released you. Read it, please."

The lead member of the KART took the folder and gently shook out the contents.

On the table were photos taken from space, a report about something, and a drawing of a building.

Werner addressed what all the members were probably thinking.

"Ah, yes. Dis photo is of another KSC, just not as good as ours. It is a little, primitive, if you must say zat. They build small rockets, about the size of a tree. However, zay do not vant you to succeed in your orbital dream, so zey sabotaged your rocket."

The members sat in a dead silence, until one asked what the drawing was."

"Right. Dis. Dis is a detailed description of ze rival KSC. It shows plans found by our spies, as vell as moles working inside ze KSC."

Gene chimed in as well.

"Yes, your rocket is why I have a broken leg, and the reason 57 people died, but it wasn't you. The rapier's vectoring nozzles were set to the west on purpose. The police found traces of it. So, with the vote of Werner and Walt, and all our staff, we need you. And we need you badly. We don't want the rival country, the Koviet Union, to put a rocket into orbit. You've already gotten into space. We're counting on you, you crazy KART guys. Do not disappoint us."

One of the members asked about where they would build. Gene answered this very quickly.

"Ah, yes. Right. The VAB isn't there anymore. I forgot. From now on, you will be using the SPH until we can get things repaired at the VAB, okay?"

All the members yelled YES! And the limo pulled into the KSC.

(To be continued)

What do you think guys? Who do you think the members of the KART are? I'll reveal them soon.

Sorry about the lack of photos. I wanted to end the jail conflict. I hope you're enjoying this! :D

BD armory is to bomb KSC2, right?

So... It's a bunch of amateurs building and launching spaceplanes? May the Persistence be with you...

As I said, you must be patient for BDarmory to come, but... Yes. Yes it is.

Yup. A whole lot of amateurs just building stuff.

A good theory, but remember, early in chapter 1 I said this:

Thanks for the typo alert :)

DAY 3:

After their release from jail, the members of the KART continued to launch model rockets, until one week later, when their newest masterpiece was complete. After hours of work, and funds from the government, they were satisfied that this ship, the "Phoenix I" could reach orbit.

The government had just given the KART a contract to send a satellite into orbit to take more photos of the second KSC, but the KART was more interested in discovery.

Stage 3!

Screen Shot 2017-01-14 at 10.26.49 AM

The whole flight was going smoothly until after reentry. The KART tried to stage the parachutes but they wouldn't budge. Therefore, the Phoenix smacked into the ground and all the science experiments were lost.

Besides, the rocket only reached an altitude of 81 meters.

That's only about 3 meters more than they're previous craft.

After this failure, the KART realized that the parachutes didn't open because they had no batteries on board. Therefore, they added batteries and launched the "Phoenix II" This time, the parachutes opened!

and the payload landed at a nice 4.1 M/s on a beach.

Suddenly, the KART realized how superior liquid fuel was over solid fuel, and began work on a secret project.

(To be continued)

Well, there it is. What special project do you think the KART is working on? Let me know!

:)

DAY 5:

The KART had just successfully launched a 3 stage rocket into space, and had brought back good scientific data from the vacuum of orbit. The government was very excited about the KART's work, and continued asking the KART to send a satellite into orbit to photograph the KSC 2. However, because the KART refused, the Military had to take things into their own hands. They launched a fully armed dove fighter to go and deal with the KSC themselves.

Screen Shot 2017-01-16 at 10.51.27 AM

However, nearing the old KSC, the aircraft experienced high-Gs and exploded in midair.

The pilot, David Kerman, managed to land, but the radio went dead that night.

The next morning, another dove fighter launched, with Jeddun Kerman, to try and help David. As Jeddun made a flyby of the crash site, he was surprised to find no trace of any aircraft. He did, however, see marks in the soil where the aircraft slammed into the ground. Surprised, Jeddun requested to investigate the closest buildings, the KSC 2.

Screen Shot 2017-01-16 at 11.13.30 AM

Jeddun made a low pass of the complex, but the KSC was shocked when he screamed a mayday. After the surprising scream, the KSC heard a horrific crunching sound, and never got another radio transmission from Jeddun. A high altitude satellite recorded video of the area, and it revealed that the Dove crash was still there. However, Neither David's or Jeddun's body were ever recovered.

The KART, startled by this new development, began work on a satellite for the government immediately.

(To be continued)

Well, there you go. How do you think the aircraft crashed? Was it pilot error? Or maybe the aircraft's fault?

Hmmm.
