It can already happen...

You can set up the forum threads to send an email notification when posts are made.   If you do this for the 'announcements' thread (that's the very top one on these forums) you will get an email when they announce it in there (which they always do).  The notification is usually delayed, so you can often find out a bit quicker by keeping checking the forum,  but it works.
