'Open Shielded' Tweakable for Shielded Docking Ports (In a cargo bay)

Recommended Posts

There's an advanced tweakable called 'Deploy Shielded' for landing legs now, which allows players to deploy landing gears in a shielded cargo bay.

Then, what about having the same for Shielded Docking Ports(Including inline/mk2 ones)?

Doing so, docking will get much more convenient in cargo bay/service bay/fairing. Also there will be tons of possible application of it, like docking a rotor. I think this could be added to the gameplay without any problems, so why not add this feature?

I'm confused as to when you'd use the shielded docking port without opening a cargobay/cargoramp for something to get at it...

Anyway, if its really a problem for you, in the meantime, you can easily mod this.

....\Kerbal Space Program\GameData\Squad\Parts\Utility\dockingPortShielded\dockingPortShielded.cfg

Quote

    MODULE
    {
        name = ModuleAnimateGeneric
        animationName = dockingring
        actionGUIName = Toggle Shield
        startEventGUIName = Open Shield
        endEventGUIName = Close Shield
        allowAnimationWhileShielded = False
    }

Change False to True, and I think it should work.

What I'd rather have is a node appear in the editor when you open the port in the VAB/SPH and want to attach something to it.

What I mean was docking after closing cargo bay, either by accident or intent. Small airplane should have shielded docking port to dock, and even rover can have it for aesthetic purpose. It's also handy for internal rotor.

It's not really problem in my case, but there are cases where it's needed and it should be better to have. Also landing gear already have this functionality..

(+advanced tweakables will work well for this, just as landing gears)
