DunaManiac

Release date for console update.

Question

Squad, do you have any release dates for the new update. I read a thread that said the update was going to happen "In early Next year" But does anyone know WHEN that actually is?

I'm sorry @DunaManiac but Squad has not revealed a date, it will be released when it is ready and it's not ready yet.

This isn't just an update, Squad have contracted Blitworks to produce a new port based on the Loud and Clear release of KSP, nothing from Flying Tiger Entertainment is being reused.

Blitworks have a lot of games under their belt as you can see from their main page, So I'm confident that they can deliver, it will however take time.

I've mentioned the new port a few times in the KSP Weekly, it's definitely coming on but there's a lot of work still to do.

Hope this helps :/

Will the new release come with new rocket and plane parts or will things like that come in future updates? Thanks

It will come with everything in the Loud and Clear update, unfortunately that's all I know at this time.

Thanks. Can't wait to play it. Been unplayable since release day on ps4. Keep up the good work. It's to bad flying Tiger dropped the ball.

This is great news, and I hope more people are able to see it.

Though to be fair FTE busted a gut and did their best, DJ and his team deserves kudos for all their efforts in the short time they were working with Squad.

And to be very fair to FTE, this isn't their mess. They did exactly what was expected of them and ported the game to console. The real failure comes from SQUAD's QA team.  They either knew of the bugs and let it go forward or they didn't test it and let it go forward.

Sure, I didnt mean to knock them per se, more in that Blitzworks will not have to work through someone elses code, sort it out, determine fixes, and then get to work. Seems like this allowing them to start over is the best chance for success for all involved.

Sadly you attribute far more authority to QA teams than they actually have, they do not decide whether a game is released or not, for any software for that matter, I recommend you read up on software development.

Testers and QA can report issues and make recommendations, the fixing of those issues is undertaken by developers depending on severity, available time, project scope and many other factors.

Developers, like testers, are also not responsible for the decision to release a software product, the products publisher or owner would be the one to either set a deadline or to make the final decision to release.

Well I stand corrected but, sadly, the point still stands. SQUAD knew this wasn't a good port when they released it. They knew about the bugs and file corruption issues but still sold it as a finished product. I might have pointed at the wrong group within SQUAD but the issue is still within SQUAD.
