Humble mod request

Alain™

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am a new player to Kerbal Space Program and love the game so far. If a kind modder out there could fix me a simple mod to change the color or add contrast to the contract markers on the navball, it would be greatly appreciated. I did a quick google search and came up with 2-3+ years old posts with no results. I imagine it would be simple for someone who knows what they're doing. :)

Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion!

I did a quick search of ksp texture replacer. Unfortunately, this was in the forum post

Known Issues

  • Visor reflections and navball texture replacement don't work in KSP 1.1.

I assume that it still doesn't work in 1.2.2. I looked at other visual improvements and I can't find any with the word navball in the description.

Hi Alain and welcome,

This may be a good opportunity for you to start learning to mod a little. The graphics for the Nav ball are located in the following Kerball directory:

\KSP\GameData\Squad\Props\IVANavBall

  • The graphics are *.dds files so you will need a program to edit them.  I use Gimp: https://www.gimp.org/downloads/
  • After you install Gimp, you will need to install the dds plugin.  This plugin can be found on gimps website: http://registry.gimp.org/node/70
  • Drop this plugin inside the following folder of Gimp: C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

Now you can use Gimp to open those *.DDS files.

-K

I forgot to mention,

You will also need to save the file the default extension Gimp wants it saved as, and then reopen it and export it as a *.dds file.

And

That dir is for the nav ball inside the craft. if you want to change the main (exterior) nav ball, edit the files in:

\KSP\GameData\Squad\Props\NavBall

If you contrast the nav ball a little, it will really make those Nav Markers pop.

-K

There is a mod that will let you easily change the colors of the NavBall and so you can use a color scheme that makes the markers easier to read.

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/63113-making-high-contrast-nav-ball/

The mod is in the fourth post.

There are a bunch of alternative textures throughout that thread so try some of them it may be all you need.

Also the 1.2 version of the mod works fine in KSP 1.2.9 if you are participating in the beta.
