  • - repeating science experiments
  • - asteroid science
  • - etc

I started a new science career and edited the savegame so I could unlock the whole techtree.

~First Steps at Kerbin~

The first part!!!

I've launched a zillion spacecraft already but i wanted to show you the first steps on kerbin.

This is the Kerbin Biome Explorer:

s4ZJq8e.png

This plane is made to fly to every biome and gather the science.

It can also mine and refuel at any place and on board are science experiments and a lab to restore the materials bay and mystery goo:

vFFt1Y6.png

rgY1adQ.png

wfuChj5.png

lgr09ft.png

Because I dont want to drive all the way around KSC with this thing, I made three other constraptions to gather science, plug it on the Plane and let the container gather all the science :P This includes the biomes: Crawlerway, Runway, Launchpad, KSC, Shores, Water, Mountains and Highlands. This is because the plane is unfit to get there.

Biomes explored in this episode are:

-Kerbin-

  • KSC
  • Launchpad
  • Crawlerway
  • Runway
  • Water
  • Shores
  • Mountains
  • Highlands

only 8 more to go on kerbin!

  • Ice Caps
  • Northern Ice Shelf
  • Southern Ice Shelf
  • Tundra
  • Grasslands
  • Deserts
  • Badlands
  • Atmosphere

oh boy... that means quite a long fight from the north to the south... :P

Stay tuned!!

~Roving the KSC~

Hello fellow kerbonauts!

Okay, so after a hopeful post that gave me a slight headache,
I made a small rover-like car to gather all the science from the
micro biomes at the KSC.

I used this map from reddit:
xYTeZk9.png

As you see I added a science lab to clean out the mystery goo and materials bay, if I had to do that by a scientist every time, I would went crazy pretty soon!
4lcubkD.png

I had to use quite some 'acrobatic' manoeuvering :P
TYoYkUm.png

but got some nice biomes!
Sd1CD0Y.png

But at last!! i gathered 290 science expirements!!! that means 29 micro biomes ^^
mvUwmus.png

Docked it at the Kerbin Biome Scanner :)
4jPyFAF.png

Turned out I scanned 2 biomes twice, runway and vab, so my science container now contains...

348 science expirements!!!!!!
Pretty succesful round while not moving more than 1km from the KSC ^^

XLyyDSK.png

Gathered 35 biomes, that means only 8 to go for real now, but that comes in some other episode.

Thats it for this part, in the next part I will show you wich spacecraft are already
airborne so stay tuned!!

~Vessel introduction~

Hello fellow kerbonauts!!!

So here's a little update about all the current missions:

As you can see in my space centre I use some abbreviations so I'm
going to explain some of them to you:

The first two letters means the body they are going to, meaning:
- Po = Pol
- Mu = Mun
- Mi = Minmus
- Gi = Gilly
- Ik = Ike
- Ee = Eeloo
- Mo = Moho
- Dr = Dres

All the abbreviations are unique and the science ships are all called <body> explorer.
For the second two letters, they mean a specific purpose, which are:
- OS = Ore Scanner
- Ry = Relay
- MB = Mining Base

There are also some exceptions, such as the Mun Space Station which is called MuSS
or the MM Explorer which means Mun and Minmus explorer.
And one is called Ike Comnmnet, but I will rename that soon.

Many relays serve more bodies, such as the Ike Relay, Gilly Relay
and the Pol Mining base. They have to serve the local system.

The preparation is not clearly finished yet, I still have to make a suitable
Explorer for the Eve system and for Jool and Laythe. The Tylo Explorer will be renamed
for exploring Pol, Bop and Vall as well.

LjAUHHO.png

Enough said!!
Let's look at the ships!

A overview in the tracking station, quite a lot of ships...
2711bNV.png
Cv27quF.png

Of course, first the Kerbal Space Station! Here will all the returning missions dock
and will the science be gathered in one science container to be returned in once....

18DllJR.png

As you can see, a space shuttle is still docked, it's because Jeb, Bob, Bill and
Vall just brought a module replacement to the station.

k42f6V0.png

The Mun station!

Nothing spectacular, after the main tank is empty, it will be undocked and then a tanker can be connected.

UlUF7Dm.png

This is a mining base (from the the grey tank to the front) and a tanker (the orange part).

The tanker can fly on its own from minmus to Mun to replenish the MM Explorer

sbYIeYs.png

The Jool system has also a station, for organisation reasons... :)
PElQr66.png

An example of an explorer, this one has mining capabilities

(I think this is the Duna Explorer, as you can see it's more aerodynamic)
A0mXYnC.png

I also made a little ship to explore the Kerbol Space
tK8xcvf.png

Fun pic, you can see how many kerbals are already on a mission... 51!

But I want more! :) (And that's going to happen for certain)

~Kerbin Explorations~

Hello fellow kerbonauts!!

In the last episodes I gathered most of the science around KSC.
But now is the time for the first real exploration mission!!

The Kerbal team of this mission is going to be:
Pilot                        - Jedpont Kerman
Flight Engineer       - Caricca Kerman
Commander           - Bilmon Kerman
Recource engineer - Jengan Kerman

Chief Scientist         - Will Kerman
Scientist                  - Ergee Kerman

Junior Scientist       - Cerdra Kerman

Expected flying time: 5 hours

I will depart just before sunrise at the first light to get the most of the day.
5 hours of flying time means around 13.000 units of liquid fuel is needed.
Given the fact that I only have 8000 units, for the refueling point I
will refuel at spots when I have some time left to sunset to get the last bits of sunlight.

Biomes which have to be covered are:
- Ice Caps
- Northern Ice Shelf
- Southern Ice Shelf
- Tundra
- Grasslands
- Deserts
- Badlands
- Atmosphere

The planned route wich is going to be followed is as follows:

JKW8X7E.png

Because I saw that the wings and ore tanks were empty, I made a small refueling vehicle to pump the last drop of LF and ore in the KBE.

First step, all the way to the south pole!
I also converted some ore to fuel mid-flight.
It took me around 1,5 hour real time to fly there, so some homework was made underwhile :)

After the southern ice caps I went to the ice caps! landing was tough, because the
relief of the terrain.
flying through the landscape was absolutely astonishing!! look for the pics,
I couldn't imagine the beauty of kerbin until now. I mean, look at this!40koA1p.png

Flying to Tundra also was not a punishment at all.
I discovered when I put down my plane that I had some sunlight left. My ore drills
and converter gave me in around 30 minutes 600LF! Which I found a pretty good deal.
When its dawn again, we're going to pick up the route.

Because flying around Kerbin costs me quite a bit of time, I will cut this exploration in parts.
In the next episode I'm aiming to get at least to the Northern Ice Shelf.

Hello everyone!

Just a little request, if you have some input that I can use it would be very helpful!

For things like craftdesign, explorations, transfers, mining or any other topic.

~Kerbin Explorations - Part 2~

Hello fellow kerbonauts!!

The last episode we flew all the way from the
KSC via the southern ice caps to the badlands almost on the equator.
Quite the trip i found. In this episode we will complete this exploration run!!!
sort of...
I'm going to explain.

First we actually rode from the badlands to the grasslands.
After the science experiments we went on to the northern ice caps!
w0IyOQE.png

And seriously guys, since I started this career, I fell in love with Kerbin,
I mean, look at this!
ooUFi77.png
Euo2brn.png
oNYr0QA.png
pgcWH3d.png

Meanwhile in the trip to the Northern Ice Caps I figured that I almost ran out
of fuel!! Quickly put it down in the dark and used a full day to replenish my fuel.
Turned out I hitted the ore jackpot!!
YQjUrVZ.png
lPbSkSw.png

Some pictures of the nightly landing

Reaching the Northern Ice Caps

Then... I found out that you can do some experiments also while flying over biomes....
well... krap...
Okay! challenge accepted!
khHtaSZ.png

This experiments can be done while flying over the biome:
Crew report
Atmospheric Analysis
Temperature Scan
Eva Report

So I immediately started gathering this experiments. I flew over:
Shores, water, grasslands, highlands, mountains, ice caps, Northern Ice caps and tundra.

I did miss the Badlands and the southern ice caps, so I will cover that later in a mini mission/episode.

At last I landed at the deserts and picked up some fuel from the last daylight

Finally going toward the KSC!
D9JArBS.png

It's in sight!!
x4rsxdd.png

And there she landed, after a 3 day mission, of which 1 day was entirely refueling.
So basically explored Kerbin in 2 days! not bad!

And gathered an awful lot of data

Question: Should I go also for the flying high biomes? they are likely quite harder to get.
Or should I move on to outside Kerbin?

And I have a request! I tried to get some science from KSC biomes but I didn't
manage to make a suitable VTOL to hover above the Biomes. Has anyone a good
VTOL or stock helicopter?
Thanks in advance!

Greetings!!

~Kerbin Explorations - Part 3~

Hello fellow kerbonauts!!

In the last episode we covered, kindof, the rest of the exploration.
But in this episode we'll doe the rest. We're going to scramble the last science
with the Kerbin Biome Scrambler!

First fuel tanks away!

Yes... that is Duna!

Second pair of tanks away! And almost above the badlands!

Third pair away! And above the badlands

Just cruisin'... with mach 3 :)
Onwards to the south pole!

Made a stupid mistake here...
later I returned back from the KSC and did the right experiments above the South Pole

Last tank away! Back to the KSC

Just wow...

There it is!

Cool descent :)

Touchdown...

...And parked!

Grabbed the science from the a.. :P
(it was seriously the only way i could grab it XD)

Bam!!! 465 science!

And that ends the flying operations above Kerbin!

The second part is about the amount of science I archieved

I gathered 465 data now and the total amount of data is:
Ground     : 10 x 42 (-2)     = 418
Flying L: 4 x 11 + 3    = 47
Flying H: 11 + 6    = 17
Space  L: 2 x 11 + 5    = 27
Space  H: 11 + 6    = 17

Total            = 526
(Normal Biomes = 11, Microbiomes = 31, you cannot do other than ground expirements on micro biomes)

Gathered = 465/526    = 88%

I gathered all the ground and low flying data and none of the high flying date.
That maybe come in the future, as well the space data. But now my data rate is 88% on Kerbin so I call it a succes!

If you want to see a little organization changes that I made to create some more overview,
Open the hidden content

Spoiler

I ended the Kerbin Sea Base because it was launched in the beginning of the save
but it didn't had a valid purpose. (Note that all kerbals were recovered safely)

I applied the following changes:
- Ike Commnet         = IkRy
- Jool Space Station     = JSS
- Tylo Explorer        = BPVT Explorer
- Kerbin Ore Scanner    = KeOS

Now everything is ordered in Divisions (small operations) or Squadrons (big operations)

The Kerbol Unit:
- Kerbol Explorer

The Moho Division:
- Moho Explorer
- MoOS-Ry

The Eve Squadron
- GiMB
- GiOS-Ry

The Duna Squadron
- IkOS-Ry
- Ike Explorer
- IkRy (is an extra relay station)
- Duna Explorer

The Kerbin Division
- Kerbin Space Station
- KeOS
- Kerbin Biome Explorer
- Kerbin Biome Scrambler

The MunMinmus Division
- Mun Space Station
- MiOS
- MiMB
- MM Explorer

The Dres Division
- Dres Explorer
- DrOS-Ry

The Jool Squadron
- PoOS-Ry
- PoMB
- Jool Space Station
- BPVT Explorer

The Eeloo Division
- Eeloo Explorer
- EeOS-Ry

The total is 25 vessels/crafts, but it will be more since Jool and Eve need more craft

In the next parts I will cover the first Moon operations and the last craft that are to be launched!

Stay tuned!

Hakuna Kerbata!! :P

I like it! Very ambitious. From here are you planning on collecting the science by returning it to Kerbin, or will you be using transmissions for the trickier-to-reach places (like Eve).

I'm looking forward to seeing your Mun and Minmus biome hoppers. Will you be doing single massive lander, or lots of little baby ones?

When you return to Kerbin later on, will you be doing situational science (splashed grassland) or rare science (splashed mountain)? If so, I finally learned of a place which has the locations of the rare science, The Field Research Pack. It also apparently has a GUI for tracking which experiments have been done in a given biome, which may become handy as your range broadens out beyond Kerbin! I've never used it personally, it's just something I had noticed recently.

Nice "science transfer" at the end there!

thanks! :)

I will recover all of it in one time :)

eve will i explore in a lot of tiny ones. the rest with one craft  I you see in the episode "vessel introduction" you see the MM Explorer. he's going to do the job on mun and Minmus.

because i stated in the topic that i dont want to do repeating experiments, i dont think i would the splashed down expirements.

the FRP woule come in handy! i will look into it! thanks

Ow my… Awesome Idea! I hope it doesn’t get repetitive though. I’m really impressed if you would able to finish everything. Do you have any idea how long it will take to finish this mission?

thanks! well I'd like to show everyone how you could do this and the best way to explore every biome. in all episodes i try to show something extra like for fun or interesting.

well... a couple of weeks for sure... maybe in the range of 2-3 months

~Onwards to Mun!~

Hello everyone!!

Took me a week to make another episode due to some small holiday stuff

Onwards to Mun! The Mun Space Station and the Mun-Minmus Explorer are both in a eqatorial orbit around Mun.
The MM Explorer is able to explore around 2 or 3 biomes (depending on how far away the landing sites are from each other)

Considering that the Mun has 17 biomes, there is a lot of work to do! But it's done with thanks to Mechjeb :)

See the content below for a total of Mun science expirements

Spoiler

Expirements        = Landed (9)    = Space low (2)    = Space high (1)
Poles
Polar Lowlands
Polar Crater
Highlands
Highland Craters
Midlands
Midland Craters
Lowlands
Northern Basin
Farside Basin
Northwest Crater
East Farside Crater
Canyons
Farside Crater
East Crater
Twin Craters
Southwest Crater

Total Biomes          153          34          17

Global Expirements       0          5          6
Total            = 153        = 39        = 23        = 215

I landed on every biome possible, doing the EVA and Gravity scans just above the surface, and the rest while on the surface

On board I had an scientist to restore the Mystery Goo and the Materials bay.
It gave me 11 data per Biome, considering I had done the 5 space low and 6 biome experiments at this point, i had 71 science (66 + 5)

To get the Space High gravity scans, i launched a small new probe with around 6000 deltaV, the Mun Gravity Scanner or MuGS

Because of his awful lot of deltaV, it could just go everywhere i wanted, not requiring efficient manoeuvring

The rest of the Biomes did go very well and gave me beautiful shots!

To do the last 3 biomes, poles, polar lowlands and polar crater, I did a burn to give me a polar orbit

Perfect!

I can strongly promote a visit to the Mun's poles! just how beautiful..

On the Mun Space Station there is a science container to easily collect all the data

And there we are! last science gathered!

Look at this! 193 science data!!!

That means 193/215 = 90% explored!!!!

If you see the total Mun expirements you can see that the total 'landed' and 'space low (including global science)' science data is 192.
This is because I "accidently did a gravity experiment above the Mun's midlands. So the MuGS only has to cover 16 instead of 17 biomes

In the next part we will do the last Mun expirements and go on to Minmus!!
Maybe we will cover the last Kerbin experiments, but only if i have the time

Stay tuned!!

True, only just the idea for this endevour is real tough, despite attempting it for real... even if you manage the half or a third of all the science /biomes and whatnots... take your time and keep the fun :)!

~From Mun to Minmus with love~

hey everyone!

Okay, so we left Mun 90% explored in the last part.. how about 100% for Mun AND Minmus in this part? :)

Okay, so I sent my Mun/Minmus Gravity Scanner to get every biome, due to the nuclear propulsion,
I could go everywhere easily
vJ2eICp.png

Getting every biome...
Hq1VdsB.png

And there you have the gravity data of all 17 biomes!
IwHA0Nk.png

Back again to the Mun Space Station!
aK56FjW.png

Wow!! 215 data! all the Mun data :)
guz7nXm.png

Okay! time to go onwards to Minmus! The engine/fuel stage is ditched...
n8z9OVV.png

...And a fresh new tanker comes in
iYGbT7C.png

Onwards to Minmus! Both the MuSS and the MM Gravity Scanner are going
AuvHugj.png

Departing literally 2 minutes behind each other :P
jJC3WUu.png

There it is! The biggest ice cream in the known universe! :P
FXYhIYg.png

Decoupling the MM Explorer. Because it has 2200 deltaV, is can do 6 biomes at one time on minmus.
Given that Minmus only has 9 biomes, it didn't took long for me to complete this mission :)
fUdPSM5.png

Just some nice shots here for you guys to enjoy
kXFFV48.png
e3ZZxo9.png

And the MM Gravity Scanner just collected all the 9 biomes!
It has 2000 deltaV left from Mun so it was also done quickly
Zw4UsSy.png

And there we are already docked to the Station! Transferrering sweet science! :)
uDdnKVA.png

And here you go! Can you see it?...
KVep51n.png

Ohhh yes you can!!! 334 science!!!!
hqn2BBb.png

That means 215 + 119 science data... Mun and Minmus 100% explored!!!!!!!!!!

How cool is that? :0

See content below to see the calculation of Minmus science

Spoiler

Biome:        Landed        Low        High
Poles              = 9        = 2        = 1
Lowlands        = 9        = 2        = 1
Midlands         = 9        = 2        = 1
Highlands        = 9        = 2        = 1
Slopes             = 9        = 2        = 1
Flats                = 9        = 2        = 1
Lesser Flats    = 9        = 2        = 1
Great Flats      = 9        = 2        = 1
Greater Flats   = 9        = 2        = 1
Totals               = 81        = 18        = 9

Global                =-        = 5        = 6

Total = 108 + 5 + 6 = 119

In the next episode we will look further to Kerbin
And maybe launch some crafts for Eve, our lovely harsh mistress XD

Stay tuned!
