C7 Aerospace Rocket Program

Hi,

I am starting a somewhat realistic career as the C7 Aerospace Division, which is starting their rocket program. The scenario is similar to the real cold war. I am starting in the 1940s on the side of the United States of... i dont know how to call them. However, the company´s goal is to finally beat the Krussians!

C7 Aerspace presents the first rocket:

That is C7´s first rocket. Wernher designed the 0,6m SRB as strap-on boosters or as a upper orbital injection stage. After this project the company will focus on larger rockets.

Our agencies first rocket took off successfully, but unfortunately it got unstable after 8s because  i̶̶t̶̶ ̶̶h̶̶a̶̶d̶̶ ̶̶n̶̶o̶̶t̶̶ ̶̶e̶̶n̶̶o̶̶u̶̶g̶̶h̶̶ ̶̶b̶̶a̶̶t̶̶t̶̶e̶̶r̶̶i̶̶e̶̶s̶  of a failure in the steering unit. Nevertheless Wernher was pleased with the rocket´s behavior during the first seconds. The destroyed parts fell down northeast of the launch pad on the nearby grasslands. The crews could recover 85% of the rocket.

Wernher decided to add more b̶̶o̶̶o̶̶s̶̶t̶̶e̶̶r̶̶s batteries. Furthermore the Boostercam is now working.

The mission was successful and Rocket Test 002 reached almost 10km and took 73s. after this test, we decided to test another flight path. Parts were found on the sea by a fishing boat.

We used a similar rocket for this mission, it was just mounted in 45° angle towards the ocean on the launch clamps. This mission should show that this booster can fly stable not just straight upwards, but also in other directions.

This flight was very successful, Wernher has discovered just one problem: The booster could not rotate. Nevertheless the SRB has flown stable the predicted path.

Rocket Test 003 was the second successful launch, so we have decided that we move Forward to test bigger SRBs.

Future plans:

-Building an multistage rocket with a 1,25m first stage

The new rocket:

With the knowledge about SRBs from Test Vehicle-1 Wernher decided to test for the first time a multistage rocket. After testing it should be able to launch tiny experiment packs into the highest layers of the atmosphere.

The new Test Vehicle-1 was launched with a real first stage and a empty second stage. After decoupling Mission Control lost contact to the upper stage. The third picture shows an image of the empty upper stage falling back to Kerbin taken by our observatory.

Wernher still did not know why the communications failed, however at the next test mission a fully functional rocket was launched. The first stage worked good, unfortunately the upper stage did not ignite.

After two unsuccessful missions Gene and Wernher decided to focus on liquid fueled rockets. From the Intelligence Department they knew that krussian engineers are working on 1,2m Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles (IRBM).To remain competetive in the space race they announced the "Project R-1" and its predecessor, a downscaled version of the R-1.

Our answer to the Krussian rocket developments. The rocket should reach the Krussian Capital. It can also be used as a heavy sounding rocket.

RT006, first test of the Downscaled Test Vehicle

The first test flight of the DSTV-1, a 0,6m test model of the R-1. The gyroscope failed after 1m 30s and the rocket spinned in less dense air. It reached only 1/2 of the targeted distance.

RT007, another DSTV-1 test flight

The rocket crashed after 2s into the launch clamp, which had not moved back enough. The rocket exploded and destroyed the launch pad.

RT008, third flight of DSTV-1

The first successful flight, RT008 almost reached the target.

After RT008 Wernher decided to improve the last Downscaled Test Vehicle for the next flight.

Besides that he works on a smaller Sounding Rocket.
