After 3 craft have been submitted, they will (hopefully) be analyzed by me. The winner will be the one who hits the highest altitude, speed, and burn efficiency.

So may the best one win!!!

Really interesting idea, but that's not really how scoring works... it's done by a poll. And there is no limit to entries, as that's no fun.

The limit's not 3 submissions, that is the minimum. That means I would evaluate them tourney style.

The Owl can fly around 20 minutes between sea level and ~5000 m.  Aproximate range at that altitude:  350-370 km

Size:  Height:  4.7 m  Width:    23.6 m    Length:   23.2 m.

Weight:   49.006 tons.

Ceiling:  Space  ( However, i wouldn't recommend trying a reentry with it lol )

Crew:   2.  Passengers:  4.

Cost:  40.432 :funds:

Spoiler

This was my first attempt, unfortunately it has very little range

As you wish

Week 7:

Topic: Gliding

9Trkhku.png

You are to design a glider provides pastime to Astronauts and/or for tourist to KSC

To test, you can choose the starting point —— on mountain peak, tow by another plane or even take-off itself.

In KSP, you can not soaring a Glider with thermal column or any other advanced aerodynamics, so the engines

are unprohibited, but you must ensure that the aircraft is gliding unpowered.

Crew: at least one pilot.

Range: able to tour around KSC

Speed, weight and size are unlimited as long as its capable to glide.

When you said "as you wish", were you taking about me?

Requirements: You must build a rocket plane that could take off under it's own power, fly for at least 6 minutes, and glide back to the Runway or make a trip to the Old Airbase.

Does this mean engines engaged for six mins or six mins of total airtime??

And are rapiers allowed in the air breathing format?

6 mins burn time.

Only dedicated rocket engines, air-breathing rockets kill the spirit of the challenge.

CA655 Rocket propulsion aircraft  Failed :/

CA656 Rocket propulsion aircraft

MKKJ7Gl.png

Crew 1 Pilot
Length 15.7m
Width 30.4m
Height 3.2m

·Intakes are only for decoration.·Able to fly 7min30sec with max throttle.

·Most of the fuel is stored in the wing.

·Entering space is highly not recommended due to its layout.

·Improved version of CA655, has better fuel efficiency but worse acceleration.

I'm sorry,  but you have to burn for a minimum of 6 minutes.

But you can't keep the max throttle for 5 minutes or the aircraft will burn down! KS-25"Vector" is a very powerful engine even when tweaked smaller. It can maintain cruise with only 1/3 throttle.

I'll redesign it.

So, it has to be 6 minutes at full throttle?  I never measured how long the fuel lasts at full throttle... because i didn't need that much thrust for low level flight and it takes quite a bit more time to reach space and come back.

Yes. I don't really want people to cheat the challenge by pulling down the limiter or testing at 50%.

It should be able to maintain (and possibly increase) speed and altitude for six minutes. That's basically the definition of flight.

The Komet is the first rocket plane, and it didn't have throttleable engines. It lasts for about 8 minutes.

P.S. I dunno why WT removed 2 minutes from the tank.

It's not really a fuss... I'd just prefer if it's done today because we're actually on time right now. :) Are there going to be any last minute entries? As I just made a poll.

No. Going to bed now. Bye!
