Stargate Replica

Recommended Posts

Always wanted to do a really good KSP stargate, and after mucking around with about 3 different methods for roughly 2 hours, I created this beauty :)

LA82qnI.png

You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to turn straight lines into something roughly circular...

(no it doesn't work, only for looks, which it does well)

Here's the download https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ojxcf0dtqptnpd/Stargate%20mk3.craft

A few things:

1) It comes with a launcher that is more than capable of putting it into orbit

2) The probe you can see is the base capsule

3) A little wobbly when it loads, but nothing to worry about :)

Enjoy!

I am very much interested in this! Combine this with an updated version of that wormhole travel mod and you could, in fact, create your own stargate network. And that would just be all kinds of awesome! You could also use the Hyperjump System to emulate it, though I've heard that mod is having a few issues.

...I think that if you give us the download, I'll actually set this down in the antarctic region of Kerbin and begin a mission to set one down at each of my colony sites, just for fun.

This thread has [stock] in the title. Is it?

Yes it is completely stock. Will most likely be putting up the .craft file tomorrow evening, but if it ever becomes not stock I'll either make a new thread for that version or remove the [stock] from the title. In the latter case, I would make it clear which download was stock and which was modded :)

Kerbal Crew Manifest should do what you're looking for. It allows you to do all kinds of fun things with your kerbals!

I may use it to start a colony populated solely by kerbals named after people I know... So that I can tell them when, where, and how they died.

"I'm sorry to inform you, but you were eaten by the Kraken. May you rest in his belly comfortably."

Quick question: Did you use the symmetry option while creating this? If you didn't, I have a neat idea for action group use...

Yeah I did, I realized after what could have been done with action groups :P

Actually the way the symmetry worked putting the lights on, the symmetrical copy of each set of lights is actually on the opposite side of the gate but on the back. So you could still use the action groups to make the gate "dial" if you want :)

LOL all that's missing now is the big whoosh of unstable vortex to finish off this replica. Btw anyone fancy making a Kerbal version of the Deadalus battlecruiser?

I actually did one a while ago, not sure if I still have the save file with it though :/
