1.Prologue--This Very Post!

Prologue

"But sir, it can't be done. It's the third most inhospitable place in the solar system..."

"Eve is number one, and you agreed to help me with that. Granted, it only got as far as a lander prototype, but we tried. Don't back down on me now, Wherner."

"At least we had a REASON to go to Eve--we hadn't landed on ANY planet yet! Now we have Kerbals on Duna. I think rescuing them might be a bigger priority than planting another flag on a distant dwarf planet!"

The door opened. Gene Kerman quickly realized he was walking in on the loudest argument between the director and Wherner yet. They had been arguing for several weeks over some new project involving Eeloo, and the arguements had gotten louder and pettier names were thrown each time. The director thought it was the best idea yet. Wherner thought it was the stupidest idea yet.

And I don't even know what the idea IS, Gene thought.

"STOP!" He yelled. "You've been arguing for weeks. I am the head of Mission Control around here, I think I have a right to know. What in the name of Harv have you two been arguing about?!"

The two exchanged looks.

"Sit down, Gene," The director said. "You're a smart Kerbal. Figure out for us wether this is a good idea..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Let me get this straight. You want to colonize... Eeloo?"

"That's right."

"But I think it's an expensive waste of resources."

Gene sat back for a moment, deep in thought.

"And why do it?"

"It will help the ultimate goal."

"The grand tour?"

"Yes. Think about it--Eeloo has an inclined orbit, so we would learn how to handle that. Eeloo has no atmosphere, so we can't just stick a parachute on a capsule and send it down. The small space station means we would learn rendezvous and docking."

"I see..."

He thought about it some more.

"Yes... it's a good plan."
