Increase strength of decouplers?

Been having a similar issue.

This (http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/index.php?title=CFG_File_Documentation#Standard_Part_Parameters:) mentions 'breakingForce ' as value to be added under standard parts.

dragModelType = default

maximum_drag = 0.2

minimum_drag = 0.3

angularDrag = 2

crashTolerance = 6

maxTemp = 2900

breakingForce = 2000

Like that.

Tried it on a rocket that kept sheering off from linear stress, worked perfectly. Over 1500 thrust and no issue.

Agreed, I've been look up stats on the strengths of various steels and composites, trying to figure out how to translate that into game values.

After I've made a rocket that can get to the speed of light in less than an hour :D

Wish I could do that sort of thing. Also, Id like to see the 5-way coupler made detachable, like the standard ones.

Simple trick to increase the stability and strength of your decouplers without doing anything implausible:

Use tri-symmetry and struts to connect from the bottom of the stage above to the top of the decoupler, then from the bottom of the decoupler to the top of the stage below. It reinforces the joints between the parts, but doesn't do things like use unobtanium bullshitide as the material for the decoupler, or see you tying all the stages together directly. It's like having small clamps/claws on the decouplers that are blown with the rest of the connections.

Note that you can still get significant vehicle flex on long boosters with many parts, particularly under high thrust levels, so be gentle with your Yawmaster during the early stages, or you might just tear the vehicle apart anyway.

(Bonus note: While the stock 3m-to-five and 3m-to-7 adapters aren't strong enough to handle being filled with M-50s by themselves, if you use struts to tie the bottom of the stage to the top of the M-50s, you'll transfer enough of the thrust load through the struts to keep the engines from shaking off or breaking the adapter!)
