  1. Hi, Sorry, but this is not currently possible for the KerbalEdu EHC missions. They should be short enough though that saving is not required that much.
  2. Which mods? Are they supposed to be compatible with Kerbal Space Program 1.0.4? Have you tried them separately, maybe they simply aren't compatible with each other?
  3. Hello, Here to inform you that a new mission has been released to Earth History Campaign. First update your version of KerbalEdu (download from https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/kspstore and install). Then go to http://www.kerbaledu.com/ehc, select mission V and play. Mission is divided into two parts that can be launched separately. Sorry for requiring you to update again. We were originally not planning to update the game between the missions, but we needed new conditions and actions to the mission editor to make the new mission as we had envisioned it. On the plus side you now also get to play with them and the new condition grouping functionality in the mission editor (log in at http://kerbaledu.com/kerbalmissionlibrary/ and select Mission Editor).

    Mission III

Hi, It is a bug. I don't think he even actually dies anywhere, it is just a false message about it.
  5. Yes, it is possible to land on the runway. Your trajectory should take you quite near it. When you have entered atmosphere try to achieve level flight along the same trajectory you entered on. The runway should be somewhere to the front (maybe a little to either side) on a flat patch of land somewhere on the ocean shore. Quite close. Simply fly directly towards the marker and a tutorial window should pop up when you are near enough. It also pauses the game so you can't crash even if you approach at high speed. No need to land.
  6. Hi, Thank you for your feedback! Sorry for taking so long to respond. First of all, the Earth History Campaign missions are supposed to be launched directly from the website. This is because we wanted to make it easier to integrate them to learning management systems and the like. I don't know why that doesn't work for you. Have you tried running "registerurlhandler.cmd KSP.exe" in the installation directory manually? Are you perhaps using an older version of KerbalEdu? EHC missions are only fully compatible with version 1.0.4e711. Copying them manually is there just as a backup measure and we know there are many issues with that currently. The reason some of the missions are savegames and others scenarios is that some features used in the ones that are saves won't work in scenarios. We are continuing to look for ways around that. It would be nice if they all could be scenarios, then we could have them easily restartable. If we can't make them all scenarios, we should probably create our own in-game menu for launching them and hide them from saves (put them to some other folder), or just hide them from saves and have them only startable from web. We are also looking into how to fix the problems you pointed out in the missions themselves.
  7. Yes, I think you are right, a size or other limit on the folder the config file points to might not be a good idea. However there would be a good reason to ignore the scenarios and training folders. If they are copied from the redirected save folder at every program start, any updates we would do to scenarios and tutorials could be overwritten by older versions for the redirected folder.
  8. Thank you for writing about your experience with the edusettings.cfg save game redirect. You are the first one I have heard of actually using it. Glad to hear you got it working, though it seems it needs a few tweaks. At least I think I'll make it check that the directory it is directed to contains some saves (or is empty), or is smaller than some specified size, so that it won't copy the whole root even if it was directed there. Also probably a good idea to make it ignore scenarios and training directories so that those won't get deleted or written over. Better instructions on using it in the readme and on the kerbaledu.com page are probably in order too.
  9. The cabbages come with it now. Those "tantares-style" parts will come with missions that will be released later.
  10. The installer is supposed to run registerurlhandler.cmd. If for some reason it doesn't, you can run it manually to enable launching missions from URLs. Give KSP.exe as a parameter. Like so: registerurlhandler.cmd KSP.exe I'll add instructions for manually downloading the missions. They actually go to different places. Mission 2 goes into scenarios, the others in their folders directly under saves. No mods are needed, only KerbalEdu. Those wheels are not from KF, they were custom built by our 3d modeler.
  11. Earth History Campaign Launched! What do you think happens when Kerbals get their hands on a piece of human technology? You can stop wondering and find out in the latest update to KerbalEdu: Earth History Campaign! Earth History Campaign is the first major content update for KerbalEdu that introduces students to the history of spaceflight, basics of gameplay and essential physics concepts. You can start Earth History Campaign directly from the website: www.kerbaledu.com/ehc. Note that you’ll need the latest version of KerbalEdu to run the new missions! You can find more information about Earth History Campaign in our latest blog post. KerbalEdu Update In preparation for the Earth History Campaign, KerbalEdu has been updated to version 1.0.4e711. To download the latest version, log in to kerbalspaceprogram.com store. You need this new version for the Earth History Campaign missions to work correctly. The KerbalEdu website kerbaledu.com has also been updated. It now contains a lot more information on how to start using KerbalEdu for teaching.
  12. A bit of resurrect of an old thread but, in case somebody comes here searching for an answer to this problem: Edu features not appearing or working correctly like described in this thread is usually caused by KerbalEdu (or the user that runs it) not having write access to its installation folder.
  13. I don't know what you mean by it being American. TeacherGaming, the company that develops and sells KerbalEdu (and the company I work for as the KerbalEdu developer), is based in Finland. Squad, the original developer of Kerbal Space Program is based in Mexico. So I guess they are technically North American but...
  14. KerbalEdu actually does not require a unique license key for each copy. You get one license key for each purchase, and if you purchase more than one license at a time, the same license key is used for each of your copies of KerbalEdu. When the license key is input, it is written to a file. This file is <YOUR_KERBALEDU_INSTALL_DIR>/KSP_Data/sharedclasses.uclass. So to make your frozen installation of KerbalEdu work, just make sure it contains that file and that the license key is in it. When starting the game the first time and inputting the license key, also the mac address of that computer is saved in the file, on the second line below the license key. If you wish to later remove a license from one of your computers, change the mac address in the file to be the mac address of the computer you wish to remove the license from, and then run the RemoveLicense.exe in the installation directory.
  15. KerbalEdu updated to 1.0.4e638! Another KerbalEdu update is out! This update is mostly about bringing KerbalEdu up to date with the current version of Kerbal Space Program, 1.0.4. It contains mainly bugfixes, both in the base game and in the edu features. Improvements and fixes related to the edu features are listed below. For the improvements and fixes in the base game since 1.0.2 see http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/1.0.3 and http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/1.0.4. Improvements You can now set KerbalEdu to create the savegame files to a folder outside the installation directory. You can specify this directory by creating a file named edusettings.cfg in the installation directory and writing there the line: externalSavesDirectory = your/external/saves/directory. This could be used for redirecting student saves to their home directories for example. In addition to yaw and pitch angles, you can now also specify the camera distance in the “Lock Camera†event action Launching missions in zip files from URL. You can now post mult-part missions that use the LoadGame event action to mission library. Fixes Fix; Vehicle mass only shows stage 0 mass after removing and putting back decoupler in Kerbal 2 stock craft. Fix; Vehicle mass differs from Craft Stats information. Other fixes and improvements to design data & data select view. Fix; After pausing the recorder the unpause button seems to get chopped from both sides. If you own KerbalEdu, you can download the new version by logging in at https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/kspstore/. You can access our Mission Editor the same way as before, by logging in at http://kerbaledu.com/kerbalmissionlibrary with your KerbalEdu account (the account you have registered at kerbalspaceprogram.com).
  16. Having regular KSP on the same computer as KerbalEdu should have no effect on the force arrows or other edu features. Unless you accidentally installed them in the same directory on top of each other, that might have "interesting" results... Could you upload your KSP.log somewhere and post a link to it?
  17. Which OS are you using? If Windows, try running "registerurlhandler.cmd KSP.exe" from the command line in the installation directory.
  18. First of all, thank you for your feedback! We have taken into account the requests for tutorials and guides for the game itself and how to use the game as an educational tool. We have started working on this and we strive to provide a better experience in the future, especially for teacher who are unfamiliar with KSP and KerbalEdu. The missions we have submitted to the mission library contain full lesson plans. You can use the "Includes lesson plan" filter to list only those. We had hoped that teachers would share their missions. We know that at the moment there is not much structured content available, but we have been working on an educational tutorial called Earth History Campaign (EHC). It is still in early development, but we believe that it is something that will be helpful for teachers once it is released.
  19. Yes, you have to buy it to get it. Prototype testers were not given a free copy. You can buy KerbalEdu at www.kerbaledu.com.
  20. KerbalEdu updated, now based on KSP 1.0.2! Hello all! It has taken some time, but we have finally finished the first post-release update to KerbalEdu. The main thing in this update is that we are bringing KerbalEdu up to date with the current version of Kerbal Space Program. So it is 1.0 time! All KerbalEdu users will now get all the cool features that have been added to KSP since the last version KerbalEdu, which was based on 0.90.0. All the edu features will of course still be there too, with additions and improvements. Oh, and we now have a Linux version for you as well. If you own KerbalEdu, you can download the new version by logging in at https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/kspstore/. Yes, right now! It is recommended that you uninstall the old version before you install the new one. Remember to backup your savegames first! Mission Editor has also been updated. You can access it the same way as before, by logging in at teachergaming.com/kerbalmissionlibrary/ with your KerbalEdu account (the account you registered at kerbalspaceprogram.com). In case you have forgotten, or follow only this forum area, here is that nice video showcasing the new features in KSP 1.0 that are now coming to KerbalEdu too. Check the full list of changes from KerbalEdu blog.
  21. It is basically as technicalfool said. We have no strictly defined intended age group. It depends on what you do with it. I would say the included scenarios would be suitable for children aged 10 and up, maybe even a couple of years younger in some cases. Or, to copy-paste what I answered to a previous post on the subject: "If I had to throw a number, I would say 11 and up, but it scales well for all ages. It can be used to demonstrate basic things even to elementary school kids, but can offer challenge even for university students. For example at an elementary school it could be used to show what is really meant by saying that the Moon orbits the Earth e.g. what is orbiting. In a university it could be used as part of some basic aerospace engineering course, where the students could be for example asked to program their own autopilots as plugins to KerbalEdu."
  22. Yes, it is currently possible to download and install mods to KerbalEdu just as well as to regular Kerbal Space Program. However I guess you could in principle prevent the installation of mods by removing write access from student accounts to all the folders where mods could be put at (GameData, Internals, KSP_Data, Parts, PluginData, Plugins, sounds). Haven't tested that though. Yes, KerbalEdu has all the regular aspects of the game, nothing has been removed. Also no way to control access to those has been added, if that is what you mean by controllable? Yes, we have also been thinking that some sort of edu mod manager might be useful, and that is something that might be added in a future update of KerbalEdu.
  23. It seems your tinkering with the firewall and the license file has somehow made the system think you're now trying to run it on another computer. Please contact us ([email protected]) or Squad directly and give the email address you used when registering your license, so we can reset the install count of your license.
  24. All the mods that work with the version of regular KSP that KerbalEdu is based on (currently 0.90) should work as is with KerbalEdu. We didn't of course test all (or even that many) mods with it, but we tried not to do anything that would break mod compatibility. For example the force arrows work correctly even with FAR installed (though I didn't do the math to check the values are correct, just looked that they seem right). ps. Using kOS for teaching programming sounds awesome!
  25. I don't see why not. Can you have someone from the school staff involved in the ordering process so we can verify it is being bought for educational use?
