  1. I guess it lets him use nukes in a productive way. Add a line about making Saturn pay for it and he'll do it. Assuming manned space travel will become the new focus ( American Earth Science: another notable death in 2016) it will either be private industry driven (Thiel's faction) or more of the same on steroids (Sessions' faction). Both of them can be spun to fit existing rhetoric. Private space development can be spun as cost-cutting and creating jobs in the private sector. The government approach can be spun as Making America Great Again ("'Member when we went to the moon? I want us to go to the moon again folks, and then Mars! And we are going to do it [harder] better, faster, [stronger] and cheaper!") and also creating jobs, and appeals to national pride more than private ventures do. Edit: TBH, what's more important (IMO) than what might be approved is what is going to be cut. Earth science, astronomy, basically anything that isn't this:
  2. Get Civ 5 with all the DLC, regardless of whether you get Civ 6. I've played both, and while Civ 6 is good it's still kind of buggy.
  3. Lego Star Wars II: The Original Saga
  4. I don't think so. High-power rocketry hobby motors (for rather small rockets) cost hundreds of dollars. @Tristonwilson12 How exactly are you going to do this? While I admire your enthusiasm, I don't see how you could even get the components for $2500, let alone certifications, a launch site, etc.
  5. Just saw it today. It was better than I was expecting, having read some rather negative reviews of it (A. O. Scott's NYT one especially). It was still a bit derivative, and I hope VIII and the next 'anthology' don't take from ANH (directly, like R1, and indirectly, like TFA). I love the original trilogy and what Disney has done with Star Wars so far, but I want to see something new! I saw it at my local theater (it's crappy) and I thought the CGI was rather good, if I had not known it was CGI before I might've been fooled. It wasn't so much the image itself that looked CGI, but the movements which gave it away, IMO. I give it a 9/10. Well done, if a bit off at times. I hope the next 'anthology' is truly standalone.
  6. You shouldn't be complaining about excess (in this case paperwork) when you forgot to cancel a t. It should be Pb=(Bt-(2/t)). Bureaucracies suck but they are necessary. I'm curious what experience caused you to discover this 'law.'
  7. ^This. Winter in OK sucks. It's cold and windy, but we rarely ever get a snow that one can actually justify getting dressed up and playing in (last one was about 5 years ago), mostly just 1 or 2 inches of dry, powdery snow, once a year. TBH, I kind of like the cold, it just doesn't like me. My hands dry out and look dead, my toes freeze, and my nose runs if I'm outside for any significant period of time. Then the buildings on campus are kept way too warm, so I either have to shed 2 or 3 layers every time I enter a building or sweat a lot (or both). I'd still take the cold over the heat any day though.
  8. From what I've read you want to get more than the necessary wattage? If it runs at 444W not OC'd, wouldn't I have trouble OC'ing? It'll be a little while until I get the components anyway, so I will probably check out the new AMD CPU's. Would the pricing for the CPU in the presentation be similar to a 6700k? I'm kind of afraid to try AMD since I have always used Intel chips and AMD doesn't have a particularly good reputation (IIRC). Would the AMD CPU and chipset play nice with the gtx 1070? My current computer is an iMac with an i7-3770, what sort of performance boost would I expect from going to an i7-6700k?
  9. Someone talked me out of getting a gaming laptop, and now I'm back to building my own computer. (I can build a much better computer for a little more than 3/4 the price of the laptop I was looking at.) I currently have two part lists going, a cheap one (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/x9vRwV $1466) and a more expensive one (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/J2YXVY $1616). What extra features are worth the money and what can I cut back on without compromising performance? Also a bit of info on how I plan to use the computer. I'm going to be an engineering student (Mechanical and Aerospace) for the next 4+ years, and will be using it for homework, CAD/solidworks, some gaming, web browsing, etc. How do I pick a mobo? I want to keep build costs down, but also don't want to gimp the build. I want to have lots of USB ports, good sound, etc. On the cooler, I have read nothing but good things about the Noctua, is it worth the price though? My current computer has 16GB of ram, and in general use I use 10-12 GB of that all the time (browser, Spotify, plus whatever I'm working on at the time). I wanted to go with 32GB just to give myself some headroom, and in a 2x16 config to leave open the possibility of adding another 32GB, does this make sense? On the case, I want something that doesn't scream 'gamer!' and looks more professional. I like the Define C because it doesn't have all those extra drive bays I need and looks to be well built, if expensive. With an i7 + GTX 1070, should I get a 550W PSU or greater? What rating and semi or fully modular? Thanks in advance!
  10. My dad showed me and my bro the later editions of IV, V and VI when I was young (6 or 7?), IIRC we watched them in a row, possibly on the same day (or very closely packed together). Later on (when I was about 9 or 10) we watched the prequels over a span of a few months. I've always thought of ANH as being the first, though I've never felt particularly strongly about it. I need to rewatch them.
  11. I've read the Martian, I really wish there was a sequel or something really close to it in terms of realism and humor. I like Colbert, so I'll look into the book. I'd be glad to hear your history book suggestions. I really do need to finish this... I tried reading at a few years ago and made it to the part in Two Towers where it's just Frodo, Sam and Gollum for (what felt like) a hundred pages or more. I will check out Discworld. I got to the 3rd book (IIRC) in both Foundation and Hitchhikers Guide. I may go back and finish them.
  12. In the interest of not spending my entire break playing chess, KSP, and Civ 6 I need book recommendations. I just finished reading Ancillary Justice (very good) and The Three Body Problem (also great). I prefer sci-fi, but will read anything if its good enough (I may need a bit of a break from SF actually). Something humorous would also be good.
  13. Mars. Also on my phone (just red Mars).
  14. Haven't seen it yet, but read 'Story of Your Life,' the story it was based on. Hopefully going to see it tomorrow. I would still recommend it to people who like their sci-fi to have action and explosions because they need to broaden their horizons.
  15. Quick update on me. I'm going to graduate in December and start as a freshman next semester (even though I will be taking the 3rd semester courses for my major next semester, so practically a sophomore) after a semester as a full-time concurrent student (taking physics 1 w/ honors, Calc 2, gen chem, and the department freshman seminar course, intro to engineering (boring as heck). My primary problem has been dealing with boredom between spurts of activity when deadlines or exams approach, shouldn't have much problem with that next semester since I'll be taking 18 hours. I have been somewhat surprised by how well I have transitioned from being a rather misanthropic internet dwelling gamer to a reasonably friendly and scholarly student. It can get awkward being 2+ years younger than my classmates, but I try not to mention it and my (few) friends don't seem to care much. I have also realized there may be more to life than going to Mars, especially if it is to be a one way trip. I have realized that I can do more for humanity as a researcher, advocate, and engineer than as an astronaut, though that still remains a possible route. The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department here focuses almost entirely UAV's, with no professors currently researching in astronautical engineering areas, so I will probably end up transferring to a more space oriented school. My current plan is to study space propulsion or space systems in graduate school. Sadly, I have had very little time for KSP (or any other games for that matter), but hope to be able to play some over winter break.
  16. Far side of the moon: Dark Side of the Moon: For reference.
  17. Would this be possible? Probably. It's a horrible idea though. It would be like allowing companies to carve their logos into the Grand Canyon. It would permanently and irrevocably deface the moon. The very thought makes me angry. Leave the moon alone.
  18. I am in need of a laptop. I am going to be an engineering student for the next 3+ years, and need a laptop. I will be transitioning from Mac to Windows, and would like to make the transition as painless as possible (I have used cheap Windows laptops at school and find them nearly useless). I have done some looking of my own, and have all but settled on the Razer Blade (http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-blade). From what I have read it is the most MacBook Pro like Windows laptop there is, the only issue is it carries a MacBook Pro like price tag. Would it be worth it compared to a cheaper Asus (like this), especially given the 1070 vs 1060 (I don't plan on doing much gaming, and what gaming I do isn't super graphics intensive, so graphics benefits would go towards CAD programs)? If I do go Razer, is it worth extra for the 4k touchscreen display? The Razer maxes out at 16GB of ram while the Asus (and similar) can be upgraded to 32GB, will I want 32GB over the next 4+ years? Is there a different MacBook Pro like laptop I haven't seen yet? TL;DR Years of using Apple products has spoiled me build quality wise, but the OS and lack of graphics power (I'm not going to pay $2400+ for 2GB of AMD VRAM) mean I have to switch to Windows. Is there a laptop with similar build quality to the MacBook Pro but with more power and a lower price? Thanks.
  19. Bad news is generally released on Fridays, with the hope that people forget it by Monday (IIRC). Friday wasn't your favorite day already?
  20. Some of the loading puns are very bad. Simply reversing the order of a sentence or phrase doth not make it a pun. Vectoring thrust? Transferring Hohmann? Seriously? Also, it doesn't load.
  21. I think a comprehensive graphics/parts revamp would be great, but they first need to hire an art team, and decide on a direction to go in (stick with PorkJet's or move on?) With PorkJet gone it is unlikely that we will get such an update in the near future, IMO.
  22. I used to write Lego Star Wars fan-fiction (when I was 11). I am contemplating writing more stories, though more mature.
  23. I will probably carve a pumpkin helmet (again). I did it a few years ago, and it turned out ok.
