  1. Yeah, the countdown mod fires the tower for you. I was firing it manually, and then it was firing the next stage. Senior moment.

  3. Be great if we could name stages. Booster,Insertion,Transfer,Park,Deorbit,Land would be a lot easier to keep straight during building than S0,S1 etc.
  4. According to SCANsat I can look for ore, metallicore, minerals, substrate, uraninite and water. Can anybody provide a stack of pointers to the heap meat on all this? (Except for Ore, that's in the WIKI) -MJL

  6. I always had to ckeck the normals one by one in Blender. it's an art. you can flip and recalculate all you want, yo still have to check them individually. (educate me) why do you need a script to do normal maps? In GIMP, I just select the texture i want use and map it. almost trivial. Here's something i did in Sketchup a while back.   7. all i know is that between the two of them, we don't have a manned space program. we can't even put a dog in orbit right now. great sadness. :\
  8. whew! and i was beginning to wonder what happened to the Forum Police 'cuz, you know, the mods can't handle it so we need heroes like you.
  9. all i can say is this: if this is consistent with your observations then i hereby admit that KSP has now passed a level beyond my capabilities. 660 hrs - it was a good run. p.s. the problem is the lift model. what you see here is a classic example of dynamic instability. and it shouldn't be.
  10. yeah, i think there will be many who give up on the first day. one reason: rockets all but impossible to control. in previous versions, it would wobble around a lot, but i could at least get it into space. new reaction wheel can only turn the smallest of rockets and i have yet to succesfully turn one past 45 without it tumbling out of control.. i'm very experienced with ksp and i'm pretty frstrated. if i was new, i would wonder what all the fuss is about because this is not fun. "improving" the atmosphere was a nice idea, but i think it might be time t re-think that. it was much more playable in early career before. Before responding to this post, please start a career from scratch and achieve your first orbit. then you will know what it's really like. you cannot appreciate this problem with mods and all the parts you are used to. it should be hard, not impossible. fwiw, i am not enjoying this version. beta than ever was beta than this.

  12. i'm having same problem as shown in OP picture. uninstalled, reinstalled vanilla steam, problem persists. - - - Updated - - - deleting settings did not fix. this is game breaking. i can't build ships. you fellas working on this? it kind of came out of nowhere - parts worked fine earlier today. update: uninstalling, blowing away game folder (along with my saved games and craft files) fixed it. so, at least that tells us it's a corrupt something in there. somewhere. ugly little bug.
  13. okto+nosecone +fuel tank + reliant (gimbaled). can't be any simpler. Latest Mechjeb dev build can't handle it either is 1.0.2 working for anybody? need a reality check here.
  14. no matter what i try, rocket starts tumbling around 5k. reducing throttle settings did not help. stable vertical ascent until 5k, then flips out. suggestions?

  17. OK, I don't get it. I'm obviously missing some important concept here. They look cool and all, but what functionality do they provide? I can attach stuff to them, but can't take anything out. (once I'm actually out in the world). I can carry, but not unload. (If the answer is "docking ports", then why do I need cargo bays?) What am I missing? What do these things *do*? Can somebody give me a practical example? Yes, this question really is that stupid.
  18. Given the volume and scope of business critical data dependent upon the Internet for distribution, the Internet going down entirely would be equivalent to an atmospheric nuclear detonation doing pretty much the same thing with EMP.
  19. I have a 35.2 meter rocket with nozzles almost touching the ground. (Adding, at most 1/2 meter to the rocket's height). When I add a launch stability enhancer, it adds 2 meters, making my rocket 37.2 meters high. Why?
  20. Anybody ever hear of this one? While maneuvering to dock, my RCS system turned on forward translation and will not turn it off. I checked all mechjeb options, turned everything off, checked that I had no nodes set. Hit "R". Constant forward translation. Disabled RCS quads one at a time. Re-enabled. Hit "R". Constant forward translation. RESTARTED game. Hit "R". Constant forward translation. Anybody ever hear of this? What am I doing wrong?
