  1. I would not take that bet. I think it was bigger than one man, even him.
  2. So (not having read all 50 pages)....... wouldn't it be a good idea for a Mars One to be robotic and prove that water can be mined and prove that crops can be grown and prove that shelters will be radiation proof? And also store up emergency stores of these in advance of humans going anywhere near? The first manned mission could be a very short one to set up the above and other people follow when its successful.
  3. Think again. There might be economies of scale that can only be achieved with a big ship. In terms of fuel storage, food production, power production, propulsion, system redundancy, genetic diversity on a generation ship etc etc. Also what makes you think it would be planned efficiently and not with typical human bias, politics, selfishness. Plenty of simple minded things would happen.
  4. I find Chernobyl fascinating, is it weird that I really want to visit?
  5. When someone eventually stumps up to go to Mars, will they do a one launch ship like Apollo....... or build it in orbit out of 2 or 3 docked pieces (perhaps at the ISS)?
  6. Some great suggestions for me to try. Especially disabling front brakes and rear steering and use of sas. Thanks guys.
  7. I only use RTGs and rockets for power. They dont weigh that much.
  8. You speak common sense. I do feel like I need options for when I need to rescue Kerbs from.........ANYWHERE! Im glad Im not the only one finding it a bit tricky.
  9. I think standardization is the unavoidable result of learning in the game. We obviously reuse designs and concepts that work well. I think it would be tough being consistently original AND successful! Also I would not want to design & build a new heavy lifter or Interplanetary mother ship when all I want is to send a new rover or lander to a location!
  10. Hi all, I often have trouble with rovers, planes and steep terrain. The main issue is running out of control on the downhill and flipping the rover (or flipping it as I brake). Is the solution just having longer rovers? I keep wondering if I am missing something. What has brought the issue to a head is several attempts to rescue some Kerbals from behind the large mountain range west of KSC with VTOLs and STOLs....... I just kept failing and leaving kerbals and debris fields everywhere! Do you guys avoid mountains at all costs? PS in the end the solution was to chute in a VTOL Jet & chute in a rover into the nearest valley floor. Not an elegant solution.
  11. If I want to reuse a multi stage lander I just make sure the next mission brings a small dockable tank to be the first stage (I put docking ports on the top and bottom of landers).
  12. Nice!! Am all about stock for now though!
  13. Its bad when that was what you thought of as YOUR plane, and your whole way of flying kind of revolved around it. Nerfing it basically destroys the game for you. As for OP I was always coming up against those FW190s (planes and pilots at a level way above me) who could easily deal with me and I had no defence except dive speed........ so if the game isn't balancing players in servers, you need a small edge or two to live.
  14. On EVA on Bop if you thrust across country and do an upwards boost to gain altitude and then turn off RCS then the Kerb will look unhappy while he is climbing then the velocity starts reducing his altitude and he immediately smiles.
  15. Oh dang I was going to make a base hanging under a Mun arch!
  16. Would that only be career mode or sandbox too?
  17. May I suggest you look at screenshots and try to recreate them? This way you get a good design AND would be learning about construction and maybe why those ones work well. Just an idea. Its just practice-fail-research, practice-fail-research.
  18. I'm not sure what I did to get Obton back to the lander is ethical. I drove that dreadfully handling rover (full of RCS and no way to vent) to the top of the ridge on the way back but then I rolled it. I didn't have the RCS to EVA-fly the remaining 3kms, but it was 2/3 down hill so I used enough RCS to get forward motion enough to get him to tumble down the hill (you know how they just keep tumbling). This got him to the bottom using hardly any RCS (took about 3 tumbles). He then EVAd to within 300m and I ran him in at 4 x speed. He is now in the return ship. From the north pole you need to carefully decide what direction to achieve orbit in lols (every direction is south).
  19. That would be possible (especially with the new parts), but would be a mega project.
  20. It would be funny if the software turned out to be designed by the same person!!
  21. Thank you. I need a new mission once I get these kerbs home.
  22. By the way I think this refuelable RCS Hopper is AWESOME!!
  23. We have a 90% success. I got to the bottom and back up, but I ran out of fuel trying to refuel on the rover. Now I need to drive the horrid rover to get my kerb back to the lander!!
