  1. Docking a large ship to small object spinning uncontrolled while descending into the atmosphere seems pretty harderz. I've done spinning and I've done in atmosphere, but never at the same time.
  2. I know what you mean, I am doing that with several other games, like Rimworld and Project Zomboid. But this game has quite a bit to it and with all the mods and periodic updates I think it is safe to play KSP. I just started a career save using the Better Than Starting Manned mod and it changes game play considerably. And there are other ones like Real Solar System and Mission Controller that do similar things, so there is always something new to try.
  3. Awesome, thanks Starfish! I had found another mod but it hadn't been updated since 0.17 or something like that.
  4. In Better Than Starting Manned, I used a Munar free return trajectory for the first time in order to get a probe with 2 goo pods to high and low Munar space, and back to the surface of Kerbin with just a tiny correction burn at Perimun. It was pretty satisfying.
  5. How difficult or involved would the process be to add a few tracks (such as this one ) to the list of orbital music? I noticed that you can't just find the music in a folder or anything. Is it a fairly complicated process that is probably beyond me?
  6. I've seen a few VTOL orbital lifters now that get to orbit using air breathing jet engines for ascent from the surface, supplemented by a little rocket thrust, then switch to rocket only once atmosphere runs out. The most notable are the ones used by Scott Manley in his Reusable Space Program series , and another one used in his Interstellar Quest Series (his carry pretty formidable payloads as well). It seems like this could be a feasible real world technology to me, and a way to reduce launch costs dramatically thanks to jet engine fuel efficiency. Jet engines could also be ditched (in a solid ring with parachutes maybe?) and recovered (like in the video) since they would stop working well before orbital speed is achieved. They main thing I think KSP doesn't address is the need for cooling jet engines during VTOL. I know Harriers have to carry a large amount of water in order to use their VTOL ability, and are still limited to less than 90 seconds of hovering before they run out of water (sorry True Lies, that thing would have crashed like three times over). This could be solved (it seems to me) by a ditchable water tank or SRBs used to get the ship up to speed so it can be aircooled. Does anyone know if this combination has been explored at all? Anyone else see any problems with this idea? Here is another one by ihmawrtl
  7. So when you have two ships docked on different sides of an asteroid, does it let you control and interact with both like they are docked? i.e. if one ship has rcs motors and one ship has monopropellant, but they both only touch the asteroid and not each other, does it treat them as one ship, letting the one use fuel from the other?
  8. That really is super beautiful. If you want an idea for the poles, Saturn has a gigantic hexagon at it's north pole that is really interesting looking, and both jupiter and saturn are known to have auroras/northern and southern lights. Those auroras would look awesome if they could glow on the dark side. Here is the hexagon around the north pole storm. Here is an image of Saturn's auroras.
  9. Not sure if these fit the bill of replicas, as they are all(except the phoenix lander) based on concept images from the Mars One company and they haven't been built yet (and may never get built). I particularly like the transit vehicle. Thanks Pseudonym, I was wondering about that, I think when I searched the forums for imgur instructions, the person must have put the space in so it could be seen by readers. At least my second try was closer, first I tried using html code.
  10. I wish they would have included some kind of space telescope part that would be required to track asteroids within a certain radius of the satellite.
  11. Having been stranded in an inclined elliptical orbit by kraken attack, a kerbal watches his savior fade into the brilliance of Kerbol as he falls away into the sweet air of home.
  12. Wow, I was just getting ready to do this my self for kicks. All components are already tested and in orbit waiting for the right Duna phase angle. I tried to do everything as close as possible to the concept images from http://www.mars-one.com/ although I wasn't going to wait a year between every launch as their mission plan calls for. I even assembled the Transit Vehicle in orbit from 4 modules. I had planned on making this challenge eventually but I'm pretty slow so it is no surprise you beat me to it. I first started this project like 2 months ago. Currently my Transit vehicle is on a test drive around the moon. This is my first post, btw, after lurking for some time now. mod edit: you can't use html on the forums, replaced it with a bbcode
