  1. Incorrect, as the OP pointed out, it's the first launch with them attached. It will deploy and slow down, but will e a water impact and no recovery today. The quote about 30-40% chance of it working is true, related to the fact that the last booster slowdown after separation ended up in a tumble to splashdown. (Apparently the SpaceX Kracken is waiting for this one as well .... ) Target launch time: 4:58PM EST if they go on time ...
  2. I began my Space Station, Kerbal Station One, and launched a lab, poser section and some nodes, all using the regular clamp-o-tron. I see that lining up your modules is critical when adding another with it's own solar panels. Also, fuel, as well.
  3. You look at all the other spaceship contributions on the board and think, man, I have got to get my imagination in gear! So many of you have intriguing designs, I'm beginning to think I'm trapped inside a box hehehe ... I'm envious, but at the same time I think it's grand that we have an exchange whereas those of us who may not think it up (yet...) can share in the joy of flying (Or blowing up) the creations of those who can.
  4. Creepy? Naah ... The words Lonely and Small come to mind when looking around the vastness of space and the Kerbin system.
  5. For a lot of my early landers, I forgo the use of ladders for that very reason, they could jetpack back to the hatch ....
  6. Hi all, On manned missions: If you revert to the VAB and make modifications, recheck your crew loaded, or you may launch Kerbal's you didn't intend to. My take on MechJeb: While I haven't used it yet myself, staying stock, it is a tool, plain and simple. We should respect those who choose to use it and for what, and the same goes for those of us who don't. Does it really effect you that much whether or not another person uses it or not? We all play for ourselves and what we want out of it. I do disagree with those who from both sides who have to tout that using/not using is "better". It's not because it's your choice, and if you disagree with that, please go back to the beginning of this paragraph and re-read the first three sentences. We came to KSP for the same reason - KSP, not MechJeb, I mean I don't think anyone ever saw MechJeb first and thought "Oh, I need KSP to use this?" Now if I could only get my ships designed with enough fuel for my dreams hehehe ....
  7. This is a great way to start, and I second it for beginners. Just make sure you have selected the other ship as the target, and than set your navball to target as well. As voculus says, then you get better at it you can begin trying a curved approach to the target, knowing where to place the prograde marker relative to the target as you close in. Doing this procedure, you also have to have patience, after you have killed relative motion and burned towards the other ship (prograde on the circle), depending on your relative orbits, the prograde marker will drift a bit, you can correct using docking and linear mode RCS for that. Thing is, depending on the initial distance, keep the closure at 10 m/s or under and warp a little bit, this way you dont either hit it if you were that good, or shoot by if you were not that good. Don't rush it and you'll get there.
  8. It's said that dunrod completed training in 1.7 ....
  9. I apologize if brought up before I posted, replying without looking at posts after yours ... There is another school of thought as well for nudging an asteroid farther out, you attach a mylar solar reflector to it, and the actual change in the amount of light and solar wind can also provide the additional nudge over time between applied and eventual planet intercept ...
  10. That on occasion if you need a large part and only have fuel tanks, use it and remove the fuel in the VAB. It's now structural, though IMO heavier than a comparable actual structural piece might be.
  11. Seconded! I have to try this as well. I usually setup the burn so that I pass low over the spot I want, then burn retro to vertical, then drop down. this seems better, less waste, and more exciting.
  12. KIDS is a terrible disease * It will ruin you, take away your friends, family, everything .... *Kerbal Induced Divorce Syndrome
  13. Asteroid Golf, don't forget to build flags for all the holes, and the restaurant at the 9th and 18th ...
  14. Interesting, I captured a roid yesterday, but al;wo placed the claw on a ship to go grab another ship in orbit that has run out of fuel. Approached and matched speeds, then moved in at 0.3 m/s, they only bumped, claw was armed....
  15. In my newb opinion, you have a chance. Can it liftoff with that engine? Do you want to try? If it were me, I'd wait until (depending on your location) until you were pointed retrograde to the mun's orbit around kerbin, then blast straight out. Then adjust resulting orbit around kerbin to get you into the atmosphere without worry, or to aerobrake (but if you got it down to aerobrake you likely could re-enter on the first pass anyway, imho)
  16. Hi Gang, New to the board, had the game for the last three months, first update was ARM. If I may, let me lay out a newb's opinion to the mix. When I started, coming from orbiter, I already has a basic OM knowledgebase. Two modes, career and sandbox, boy looking at sandbox felt intimidating to say the least, all those parts available, what to do with them? I felt better limiting myself to career mode, the gratification of achieving goals with the payback of unlocking stuff to accomplish more. I've hit sandbox a couple times, and found myself leaving, because though it's fun, I wasn't getting a cookie from it. As to mods, I haven't touched them yet, as I felt I should attempt to play the base product as is, but I think sooner or later I'll add, just as I did with FSX and Orbiter as well. As to mechjeb, damn, that's a huge fence to traverse. As a pilot, I've no problem with it, it avoids repetition, and let's face it - no one has manually flown the shuttle or saturn's on ascent, it's all monitored. so we're not breaking a real life coda or anything. However I like the satisfaction of being able to fly the ship up into orbit - again personal satisfaction that you can hit your target altitude and with near zero eccentricity. Right now though, I'm pure stock. As far as I see it - if you play KSP - you're part of the community - doesn't matter what you use with it or not - you were drawn in by KSP itself. If mods make it better/easier for you, by all means enjoy! (I saw earlier that there are visual mods- atmospherics? Hmmm ... that won't affect my gameplay but certainly up the eye candy ....)
  17. Yep, saw this, totally lucky miss for that guy, but amazing!
  18. With all this tak of 'roids, I'm awaiting to see the launch of the "Preparation H" ...
  19. Very nice caption to the first image, of course you landed it on the loudest kerbal to say you were mad yes?
  20. I killed everything last night while playing, and had launched the game itself instead of the launcher, so I missed out on the update. downloading at work now and will be applying tonight. Looking forward to the new maneuver controls, etc. It's exciting!

    Greetings!

Oh yeah! Of course the one day I got home and ran the program for a bit (I have links to the program and one to the launcher) If I only had ran the launcher to check. Of course that also saved me from then playing with the update to the exclusion of all else (you know, eating, drinking, playing with the wife and daughter, breathing (at least until you pass 20000M and climbing)) I know what I'm doing when I arrive home tonight!

    Greetings!

Yes, I would think we could beat SpaceX to the punch as well with a recoverable first stage.

    Greetings!

Finally joined the forum. When I discovered this, it seemed too good to be true, a game/sim that blends both building and flying, planetary to interplanetary. Being a heli pilot/CFII, I longed for something that would satisfy besides MSFS, that could take one out of the atmosphere, that would merge flying and spaceflight and also give one purpose We have Orbiter, a terrific sim in its own right, but it also was lacking an altogether feel. So now I found KSP, and boy I'm coming in at the right time eh? Lots of dev's, program open to modding, just wonderful. I've looked around and came up with that my imagination seems to pale with some of the contraptions I've seen photos of out there, perhaps I should take up psychotropic's and try design then! For the past 3 months I've been careering, not touching the sandbox. I'm great with OM, and getting up there wasn't too much of a problem coming from orbiter, etc. I liked gaining traction in the tech tree and challenging myself to maximize returns, looking forward to contracts and possibly being able to pay for parts ahead of unlocking on pure science return, plus 'roid rangling may prove to be a time killer in the coming months. Awesome job on this Squad. And all for under $25...
