'From The Earth To The Moon' is kinda.. meh. Tom Hanks is like a bulldog with lockjaw, hanging onto the Saving Private Ryan realistic drama idea that\'s carried him through the last few years with his various projects, all being essentially the same with the actors just wearing different period clothing. Aside from the continued high production values one has come to expect from Mr. Hanks when he engages in a project like this, there\'s not much to it. I usually scour the youtoobs for documentaries. Stuff on von Braun, World Kerfuffle 2, Nazi rocketry - that kinda jazz.

I\'m going to take a guess and say that the Center of Lift in your design is rearwards of the Center of Gravity. You have a whole lotta wing at the back and no weight. Try one or all of these things: 1. Remove a wing section from the rear. 2. Add more weight to the rear. 3. Add winglets to the nose. And you need some vertical stabilisers somewhere to stop it flying like a fish. -

Since parts can now be rotated, you can probably drop all the upside-down parts from the pack and help keep the VAB screens neater. -

See the black thing on the front/top hatch? That\'s a RCS tank and thrusters. Don\'t do this. It ends in explosions. And tears. But mostly explosions. -
Well, feel free to grab the plugin and collect some data. Maybe you can be my Mac guinea-pig. I\'ll send you a mac build of a mapping app I\'m (still) working on in a few days and you can tell me if it works.

Playing about a bit, I only have one suggestion/request. Make it balance level instead of want to automatically move forward. But this is fun. I added some RCS to a post on top for extra authority if I needed it. Hovering around and coming in for a nice landing: -

You don\'t need to be that low. Anything below 200,000m will work. The higher you are the more spread you get on the mapping beam, also.

Aw look! I was a furst choice! I\'m honoured! Actually, I used to be opposed to all the 'Name this' threads, but mostly because they were unorganized pits of lameness. With the KGS on my resumé I might just finish my map viewer. I\'m confident the KGS, with the honest lets-try-not-to-screw-this-up-this-time attitude of the KSP forum community can succeed where all others have failed. The rules are good. The problem I see is having everyone scramble to name features. Of course the largest ones will fall first and it\'s going to be a stampede and it\'s probably going to contain quite a few silly names. It\'s unlikely the community would leave it to a few chosen to select a name for prominent features 'they' discovered, so, what shall we do? Democracy is far from perfect, but perhaps before any map becomes 'Official' (in the totally unofficial sense), we have a collation period, where images are taken, etc, as per the OP, results tracked and identical features\' names can then be voted upon via poll if two people wish to name the same area. Also, do you actually realise the scale of the project?

Okay, well, I guess I\'ll give it a try. I\'ll start designing something stock to get that far. EDIT: Completed after a few hours (and minimal deaths). I am now ready.

Oh right. I didn\'t realise there were two seperates. I\'m going to fall back on my intuition here and say that the stock base only uses stock parts and no other? I\'ve never been to the Mun on just stock, so I don\'t know if I could pull that off if it\'s nothing but vanilla parts.

Please put my name in the list to land something at the base. Are we allowed to land more than one craft? For example, several small solar arrays?
