  1. Just an idea (non coding/editing), Mr Overfloater has several SSTO's with large cargo bays built like this, he just struts the wings with an X join between each wing. There's a video on Youtube. (don't know if I'm allowed links so search '[KSP] Astroliner VIII "Nova" SSTO - construction' it's at 10:54 in the video).
  2. At last we see Jeb's backyard. Love it! So does this explain why they are all related... "We all sorts of things"
  3. I had test the Escape Launch system landed on the Mun. This was before I realised I could set the thrust limiter and fuel to zero...The most chaotic take off ever! We survived....we learnt
  4. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes. I do it all the time, otherwise I'd be trying to build rockets with stages to fit precisely into the test requirements. I don't have a calculator or that kind of patience This is KSP! Slap it together and see if it works!
  5. Scott Manley is the Chuck Norris of KSP. The Asteroid's lined themselves up
  6. I right click on the part in the VAB/SPH, lots of stats. Still not sure what they are for. I just pile stuff on top of each other and hit launch. Space is good, screams/explosions are bad. Simple!
  7. True. He agreed to giving them the design providing they called them Starfury.
  8. After playing KSP I now wonder how the dropship in Aliens does "drop" in the manner that it does at the start of the film. KSP has taught me loads and enhanced my sci-fi reading (book a week) so much, I now know what they are talking about when they mention Delta V, mass, orbits, transfers, launch costs etc. A few basic things I thought I knew about space flight have been exposed by KSP and with additional reading things are much clearer now. I surprised nobody's mentioned the best of the lot....Armaggeddon (nuff said)
  9. Oh switching from VAB to SPH has caused me no end of symmetry issues in the past. I've had this where whole sections have doubled up on top of each other. I think I just started again as I couldn't unattach the root part anymore (complete mess). I did launch for a laugh and ended up with half my craft buried at a 90degree angle in the runway, when the physics kicked in my plane just rained out of the earth.
  10. Watch the youtube/Scott Manley Video's on doing all the science in two launches. I didn't do this but I found the idea of a science lab / refueling depot in orbit around the mun/minmus is a great idea for reaping the science from all the biomes. His lander was good too. My only other trick that gets me lots early on is to orbit Kerbin and gather EVA reports on different biomes, with a handful of goo's this can bring in the early points.
  11. Mine follow the simple rule of balance. Time thinking up a cool name VS Time building a successful craft. Therefore all "cool" names have crashed and burned. Successful missions have been: 'yet another SSTO' 'a silly one' (star destroyer SSTO) 'Big one' (Asparagus rocket) 'nuc 2' (First nuclear design craft...featuring two engines) 'nuc 6' (Second design...guess how many engines ) 'Bah' (Crew transfer rocket when someone fogot to crew the lab) 'Liq Lander' (probably the most sensible and heavily tested ship designed for Laythe and return) 'SM Lander' (....erm Scott Manley Lander You might think you know better, but you don't and he's always right)
  12. In a hardcore game (no reverts, perma death) then yes I'll add a sequence to the abort button to recover the kerbals from a rocket. Except for planes they tend to go wrong FAST, I've tried abort sequences but the plane is usually the wrong way up, parachutes rip off etc...Just don't put your veterans in those....Maybe I'm just terrible at building them (three deaths due to landing gear being miss aligned )
  13. I ticked off the last planet in my bucket list with Eeloo. Eeloo will be known as the eater of Solar Panels...Lander crashed into orbiter just after decoupling, which is what you get when you don't put RCS on board. Then my lander lost a panel due to a poorly EVA'd kerbal . V pleased with my ship design for this as I've basically used the same ship for one way contract missions to Duna, Dres, Moho, Eve and all their moons.
  14. Visited Dres and Moho, landed right next to the hole. Only Eeloo now to cross off the bucket list.
  15. I downloaded some craft files for some jeeps (Thanks Mr Overfloater) as I lack imagination and patience to create nice looking stuff. Took a tour of the KSC and discovered there are steps to the rooftops of the R&D building. I've played for ages but never really had a good luck at the KSC. Usually just see it in the rear view
  16. I use flags to mark the KSC at the start of the game, different biomes and the altitude (very handy as a reference for landing in the same region next time).
  17. I completed a hardcore version of the game, no reverts, no saves, perma death on. Jeb survived as I never trusted him in a plane (3 deaths while I figure out the right angle of the wheels ). Nearly went broke after I forgot to add SAS to my biggest rocket during a small redesign of the ship. Jeb only just survived the spinning wheel of death. (2 other deaths in the lab). I had to do lots of little contracts to build back up for the final mission. So good learning experience, lots of ground tests before launch and thought through those abort sequences.
  18. Ladders, it's always the ladders I forget, cue 15 minutes of mental micro gravity hopping. Ion engine on backwards. And my other classic is usually attaching a final stage engine to a part that doesn't transfer fuel.
  19. I always set the landing gear down in the VAB, then it works first time once you're on the launch pad. Also handy for testing the length of the legs are longer than any delicate bits on the underside of the craft.
  20. Or a three parter: Friendship of the Kerbals A couple of rockets The return of the Kerbal.
  21. Badly. The one time I tried I flew it to the moon end on, at the last minute in landing flip it round to land on it's wheels (which all burst). COM was a nightmare.
  22. I attempt to build planes/SSTOs cause I'm terrible at them. The only ones that work are the ones where I think this'll never work and then low and behold it works. It's all wonky as I didn't use symmetry. Or I try and investigate easter eggs as I've only been to about three or four.
  23. hehe I always plant a flag on my first mission of a new game, but these are cool. This reminds me of the quote about NASA spending however much on designing a pen to work in space and the Russians taking a pencil
  24. Early on in the contracts I tested a Mk16 Parachute on the way up (easier to meet the speed requirements), test and cut it, then realised it was the only parachute I had. Jeb had to EVA near the AP and repack it.
