  1. I would love to discuss this. It's my favorite subject in science and perhaps the most profound question in human history, but what I assume is your phone foo typing makes it difficult for me to follow your argument.
  2. I read it. I wish we could stop calling it a paradox. It is more formally known as the Hart Tipler conjecture. An Explanation for the Absence of Extraterrestrials on Earth. Michael H. Hart http://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1975QJRAS..16..128H Extraterrestrial Intelligent Beings Do Not Exist. Frank J. Tipler http://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1980QJRAS..21..267T
  3. I found this article of semi relevance. http://www.astronomy.com/news/2016/05/although-boiling-water-does-shape-martian-terrain
  4. This isn't true. Scientist now believe there are 300 billion stars in the Milky way. My higher naivete tells me there are 400-700 billion. We have examined a few thousand stars for a few minutes at a time with telescopes that would have a difficult time finding a multi megawatt, non directional radio signal. World wide, you could count on two hands the people who are looking for these signals. It's tantamount to taking an 8 ounce glass of water from the ocean in a search for whales, and concluding that since there is no whale in your sample, that the ocean has no whales. There is no paradox.
  5. Wow. I'm stunned. What they said^^. Thanks so much Harv, and good luck! http://orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=20494
  6. No. I assume the line comes from stitching the two images together. Chemcam looks like the below image.
  7. Charon: Pluto's Fascinating moon from New Horizons - Ross Beyer(SETI Talks 2016)
  8. I wonder why no one has mentioned it in any of the space news. Could it be embargoed for some sort of publication? From what I can glean from the raw images, MSL didn't sample anything in this area- not even with Chemcam, and has since moved on.
  9. The highest resolution Pluto images we will probably see in our lifetimes (260 ft. [80m] per pixel). http://www.nasa.gov/feature/new-horizons-best-close-up-of-plutos-surface
  10. As to communicating with Earth, the early plan is to use the same method to move communication craft to the opposite side of the Sun from Alpha Centauri, and use our sun as a gravitational lens.
  11. Bradley Schaefer defends his claim that Tabbys' star has faded by about 20% from 1890 to 1989. http://www.centauri-dreams.org/?p=35666
  12. I've looked at the surface of Mars nearly everyday since MSL landed and I've never seen anything like this. These Mastcam images were taken during the last 24 hours (sol 1349). I'm not sure whether the pressure is high enough at this altitude on Mt. Sharp for water to have a liquid phase, but this is definitely something new. I wonder if we'll hear more about it in coming days? It could be a sand slide, but it looks different from the other slides I've seen. http://mars.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/raw/
  13. A Kickstarter project is in the works to secure time on the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network to observe Tabbys' Star. http://www.centauri-dreams.org/?p=35658 Tabbys' Star for the perplexed. https://disownedsky.blogspot.com/2016/02/tabbys-star-for-perplexed.html
  14. 10/10. Would join again. It's nice to have my finger on the pulse of the world.
  15. Time lapse of Falcon 9 unloading.
  16. Interstellar quest was an epic that hit me at a particular place in my KSP career. I didn't use the mod though I had hoped to someday, but that series was probably my favorite YouTube watching experience of all times. Oh man, when the Duna megaship came apart on the livestream, which I happened to be watching live. Gripping- almost an 'I remember where I was when..' moment. And I have never taken off in a plane from the alternate launchpad/easter egg since I saw his plane get destroyed by a mysterious 'Kerbin anamaly' soon after takeoff. It wasn't until a recent re watch that I happened to notice a whack a kerbal ball bouncing through the scene, and I realized I'd been fooled, all those years ago. Well played Mr. Manley.. well played. Good times. Interstellar quest gets my vote.
  17. What's your relative inclination with Moho? How much fuel do you have? The best way is to leave for Moho when Kerbin crosses Moho Ascending node. You can combine your inclination burn with your Kerbin escape burn and save dv. Scroll down this links page and read Maccollos post :
  18. Lol 5th.. Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which, I will not put. -Winston Churchill ..Supposedly an editor had clumsily rearranged one of Churchill’s sentences to avoid ending it in a preposition, and the Prime Minister, very proud of his style, scribbled this note in reply
  19. I haven't noticed this because I use KER in partless mode so I can utilize ships from previous versions when an update is released, with out waiting for KER to update. You should be able to check this in the VAB with the torque and thrust offset readouts to see if they show anything.
  20. I'm in a new 1.1 career. I declined 2 focused Kerbin survey contract and lost 2 points of reputation. In the last version you could toggle a button so declining annoying contracts didn't cost rep. but I don't see that option anywhere now. Am I missing it? Can anyone confirm that declining contracts before accepting them costs rep, and that there is no way to toggle this off now?
  21. Will we need new World cup and Asteroid Day official mod downloads. I'm assuming the old ones won't work?
  22. Yeah. That's where I was going. I commented at the end of page 3, thinking i had read all unread posts. To be clear about all of this.. The $100 million dollars won't fund this project, it's just seed money to work these concepts out. There were some pretty smart people on the stage during the presentation, I assume they are confident we have the technology to make it so, and they probably have some tricks up their sleeves- having said that, I'd love to see a more fleshed out version of how they plan to do all this.
