1. So, this is a mission series that will be built around constructing infrastructure around Moho. Not much else to say at this point. Not entirely certain where I'm going to go with this, so it could turn into anything. It may even develop a real plot. I'll try to update at least once weekly, but no promises. Part 1:
2. Well, the game should run much faster when flying ships with high part counts with the implementation of the new Physx, and even faster if you have a multi-core processor.
3. Pictures? We can't be much help without pictures.
4. Glad to see that this project is still going. When you release it, you can consider yourself to have one buyer.
5. Not necessarily. While the computer would technically have a faster reaction time once it recognizes danger, it's somewhat limited in what it can do in that time. I.e, If you tell a computer and a human to press a button when a light comes on, the computer will always win because it's such a simple operation. If you were to program a computer to consider everything that a human mind might consider in those few seconds (things like whether to run into the bread truck or school bus) the computer would probably have some competition. And you'd be famous, because you'd have constructed the world's first artificial intelligence. Of course, when you cut out those kinds of considerations and make it as simple as "what course of action results in the lowest force exerted on the passenger," the computer wins by default. EDIT: Also, if a self-driving car puts me so close behind a truck that it can't stop in time if something falls off, I don't want one.
6. Oh. I though that we were still talking about robots. Yeah, clones would be, by definition, human. Yes.
7. Yes. Whether they're "human" is arguable, whether they're "people" is less so.
8. Perhaps a better word here would be "person." If we met an alien race, I'd consider the aliens people, but not humans.
9. The thing is, we're not just shape by our DNA, but our environment as well. Sure, the Einstein clones might be pretty smart, but they might never become as fascinated with that toy magnet as the original Einstein was. Perhaps Einstein is genetically a lazy bum, and only became a great scientist because some specific series of events inspired him to. Sure, you could train them to be scientists, but that immediately brings into question whether their rights as humans to find their own destiny is being violated. Same thing with the Hitler or Stalin clones. Perhaps they were only the horrible dictators they were because of events in their lives, not genetic identity. Remember, Hitler was an artist before he was head of the Nazi party. Perhaps if he had been successful there he would have turned out quite differently.
10. No offense, but yes, you did. Or at least unintentionally implied it. The source you just posted seems much more credible than the Namah site (why didn't you just link it in the first place?), But I will remain skeptical until I see more studies.
11. I'm almost certain that 99 percent of churches, and not just Christian churches, would react instantly with "YES! CLONES ARE HUMANS!" I know I certainly would. EDIT: I think we're getting dangerously close to starting a religious debate, here. We should probably stop this particular line of conversation here and move back closer to the original topic.
12. Well, the one from dailymail I saw. The first story was original, but the second really just seem to be repeating what the namah site said. The stories about food cravings I can easily believe. You are moving vital organs that process materials around. I wouldn't be surprised if those organs became so used to processing nutrients found in that food that they could generate cravings. The ones where a person claims to "recall" another person's last moments can mostly be explained as psychological trauma. I'm still pretty skeptical about things like the girl who solved the case of her donor's murder, where they actually seem to recall specifics from the other person's life. I'd need to see a lot more studies confirming those before I believe it. Again, though, I'm still extremely skeptical as many of the Namah site's sources seem to come from this Paul Pearsall, and one of the references listed is "Wikipedia." EDIT: Also, could you show me how this Namah site connects to the Wisconson Medical Society. I could not find any link between the two.
13. I would doubt these stories. The article contains links that make it look like it's referencing news stories, but in reality it just leads to a list of other articles on the same site. A quick google search didn't lead me to any actual news stories, so I'm betting that these stories are based purely on hearsay. I think that dehumanizing something that would be a full human without our intervention would cause an even worse ethical dilemma.
14. Well, you could just enable terrain scatter collisions if debris gets close as well. Just calculate for each vessel (including debris) which terrain scatters to enable collision for.
15. Well, as I understand it the physics system and rendering system are completely different things. Often, games will have collision mashes that only match the general shape of the rendered mesh to simplify the physics calculations (I know that a few parts in KSP are like this). So, if you were to use their physical model as their collision mesh, you have to have the physics determine if any part on your vessel is colliding with any part of the terrain scatter. It's usually much cheaper just to put a simple bounding box around them. Of course, the KSC seems to have a pretty elaborate collision mesh and I've never noticed any lag around it, so this may not actually be too much of an issue. EDIT: Yeah, I'd imagine that you could simply disable collision calculation on terrain scatters that are X distance away.
16. Nope. While I liked the overall feel and appearance of vBulletin, you could tell that there were a lot of things broken with it (In fact, for a while I even assumed that it was some kind of legacy software from around 2000 that people only still use because it's cheap) and am glad that the upgrade happened. The search function actually works now, and, while there are still kinks that need worked out, like how reputation is awarded (I think that you literally accumulate rep almost five times slower now), everything works smoothly enough that I think that the change was a good one.
17. Excellent! Must fix my signature, now.
18. I suppose that I'll continue with the "mites."
19. I did try to build a Flying Submarine, with some success. I found that the only way to keep something light enough to fly underwater was to use constant engine power. If you want to launch it from and redock to a submarine base, I'd build a regular seaplane-ssto, but with a docking port on the front. Then, after the flight when I wanted to redock, I would just point the nose straight down towards the base and fine tune the engine power until I could "hover" underwater. Once I'd stopped moving, so long as I could keep the nose straight down, I'd just use RCS to dock with my base. So yes, I suppose that it could be done.
20. Joysticks work fine for me, last time I checked. Call me Voldemort, I guess.
21. Just remembered that I made this, so I went ahead and updated everything to .dds. Should load faster, now. I'll also add a non-ddsified download, in case somebody wants that. EDIT: I removed the PNG download.
22. Nope. You have your texture quality turned down. Here's a clip the of mk1-2 cockpit of the texture from 1.0.4: And 1.0.5: They are completely identical, as far as I can tell.
23. 532 Somewhere around there. EDIT: YES! Spot on!
