  1. Thanks for the answers and suggestions. Would the linux version feature a still installable 1.04 though? Other than this is might try a completely clean 1.05... But i have little hopes, since BTSM was always very very very specifically tinkered to the current version, and I think I remember it not working with others...
  2. I made a big mistake. I had a nice niche 1.04 separated from my Steam install of KSP sitting there with my most favourite mod: BTSM. The thing is, this mod was discontinued after 1.04. So far so good, yesterday (after nearly 3 years of not touching it) I wanted do indulge myself in some challenging space puzzling (which is basically what BTSM does to KSP). But the game would always crash on load... I tried it for nearly 20 times, in different compatibility modes. Nothing. No problem - so I though - I will just reinstall 1.04 though. But only 1.05 is available in the BETA section. What harm can it done, I though, and installed that. But now The game is not even crashing any more, it is hanging up.. So I besiege you: can you show me a way to revert back to 1.04? Many thanks in advance!
  3. This is the reason i always kept two directories for KSP: An eternal 1.0.4. KSP with BTSM- that will perpetually stay in this state for the sole purpose of enabling me to play a challenging game. And the usually up-to-date KSP to just tinker around here and there. And ,yes, I am still in an active game of BTMS 1.0.4.
  4. The important thing with "Better Than Starting Manned" (BTSM) is not so much that it indeed focusses on unmanned first. It is rather that it is a complete overhaul that enhances the campaign game in a way, that it REALLY becomes a challenge. Early on you have to solve "puzzles" as how to get the needed science progression - meaning you have to find a way to reach certain altitudes, science collection heights and the like with a VERY restricted selection of parts. And later on you have to very carefully plan missions, you really progress in steps out of the Kerbin system into the reaches of the other planets. Or in other words, it makes a game out of the space simulator. I like it very much and hope Flowerchild will continue it (yes, it is stuck in 1.04, but very much playable there)
  5. Well, KERBAL ENGINEER REDUX never mentioned an off-balance when I constructed the craft, but when using the Duna-system-mobility egines, after an initial wobble they would induce a hefty torque and send the craft on a ca. 10 second rotation spin. This happened with SAS on, as without it. With RCS on, as without it. With a Reaction wheel running, as without it. To counter this I only used the engines in intervals, when the attitude of the craft was near my maneuver node marker. Later (with only ca 2-3 tanks) everything would behave nicely and balanced again.
  6. thanks... I love the limitations BTMS puts onto you. So the only way to bring atmosphere analyser and an surface imager without having to invest too much weight was this little clam thing I created; and of course the decoupleable in-line GOO containers
  7. Greetings! I am hooked on KSP as much as the great BTSM mod- which makes the simulation a game. A challenging and rewarding one! Before I take a break and wait for the new version to come out , i am posting here the photostory of the Duna system science mission. enjoy
  8. First: congratulations on this mod! I absolutely adore the visual effects of it. Would and will never play without it. It adds so much more to the general atmo of the game And here comes a very special question: Is there a possibility to display the planet's/moon's name right next to it. And if so, in the HUD-less display (F2)?
  9. returning to Kerbin on an eclipse... how's that for a picturesque coincidence?
  10. PRESENT TIME On the Mun The cabin's intercom filled with Henbrett's commentary. <<All three engines are gone. They compensated our crash energy so the lander took no additional damage...>> Jacky felt strangely comforted by his off the book approach to dealing with his duties as the flight engineer and science officer. Then he continued with energy levels. With RCS fuel values. And then he came to the state of the life-support system. <<About two hours...>> He did the calculations, Jacky knew, right after he checked the damage on the lander. In his technical voice his report stood in strange contrast to the direness of the consequences this message meant. The voice kept repeating in Jacky's head. Like a verdict in some absurd court, the engineers voice merging with the harsh bellowing of an uncaring judge. <<...about two hours...about two hours...about two hours...>> She felt like blacking out, all sounds fading. The image of her grandfather appeared before her inner eye, and she looked at him for what felt like ages. Then a smile appeared on his face. And something happened to her. She snapped out of her vision, and her mind was filled with a strange clarity. <<We are going to die here, aren't we, Henbrett?!>> <<That is what will happen when life support runs out.>> Jacky breathed in heavily, then exhaled with a long sigh. She made it to the Mün. This was her life long dream. She always wondered what would be left of her life once she achieved it. Now she knew: Two hours. BACK TO CONTENT
  11. 6 MONTHS AGO On Kerbin <<...is why the directorate and the scientific council of the KSA come to the conclusion that though agreeable important your proposed experiments can not be included to the „new manned study for Mün“. We deeply regret and again refer to the decision and statement of the council from...>> Henbrett let the letter glide through his hands. <<Those...those...imbeciles!>>, he shouted loudly. How could they? He began to tremble. O, he very well knew how the council came to their decision. He was not unaware of how the system worked. All members were in one or many way associated with the big five scientific organizations, and each had their share of experiments, which conveniently were deemed „scientific sound“ and „important enough“ to get a ticket for the mission. So the report says. But his research really was. Recent analysis of the suggested, that Mün and Kerbin were quite similar in the way there core was behaving. His experiment meant to find a conclusive answer to the most pressing question of how earthquakes could be predicted- and for someone from Eastern Kerban where in the last decade hundreds of thousands died due do not being warned this was not just of academic value. This was for saving lives. But this was not going to happen. He was not scheduled for the primary mission - and now his science was neither. BACK TO CONTENT
