I was able to install a patch a few versions ago that didn't crash my entire game!

I was in flight school in 2001-2002, so my last flight sim was from that era. I'd always practice my lessons in the Skyhawk and -somehow - always managed to end up in the DC-3 by the evening.

The DC-3 is the main reason I went to flight school. 15 years later and I still haven't flown one.

I had a 2012 HP something-something PC and it used to take upwards of 5-7 minutes. I bought a new thingy-ma-bopper a couple months ago and 'ZOOM! ZOOM!', less than it takes to get an ice cream and return. I've only got stock with Kerbal Alarm, MechJeb, KAS and.... Planetary Habitat, or what's-it-called. [Edit: I also have Waypoints.]

Side note: Put your radial decouplers up high (near your landing legs) and your struts near the bottom. That way the decoupler will push your spent side tanks out - and away. Otherwise, they can tip in and wreak havoc.

I had this happen on a flight out to Minmus a few weeks ago. I'm a little hazy but, I think a restart of the game fixed it.

I've been playing (PC) since 2014 and don't know what pitch trim is... Probably why my space planes never work.

I agree that it's probably still transmitting Science™. Does the electrical resource bar in the upper right flutter between 0.0 and 0.1?

You're not trying to "Recover" after landing on anything other than Kerbin, are ya? You can't 'Recover' from the surface of the Mun. You gotta get back the old fashioned way - stick out your thumb and hope for the best. Maybe show a little leg.
