  2. Alright, so people have done it. I didn't want to replicate Mako but to just replicate the landing (looks like I forgot about the thrusters on the bottom of it ). Now I just need to come up with a cool orbiter design...
  3. On the Mun or Minmus maybe? Has anyone done it maybe? No designs come to mind so if anyone could suggest something it would be great. The problem I encountered was the speed, I did a shallow drop with the rover and the orbiter, dropped the payload and took off, but the rover hit the ground too fast. I only tried it on the Mun by the way.
  4. So yeah, how do they get captured? It's not like they can aerobrake near the star. And having an escape velocity from a whole solar system, it's speed must be massive.

  10. The title is kinda self explanatory. I myself stated using them after about 6 months of playing stock. Some of them really make the game more interesting (Deadly reentry for one), some of them offer more boosters (part packs: KW, NovaPunch, B9...) which is always good, some add utilities and more options (Kethane, ScanSat)... Which ones do you use?

  14. My current mission to farm Minmus with a couple of mods (KW Rocketry most notably) has a launcher capable of lifting 18 tons to LKO and it costs something like 30-40k
  15. I always estimate how much I need then make a vehicle with that dV (+/-300m/s). Bringing more fuel means more mass, more mass means bigger rocket, bigger rocket means more boosters, more boosters means more likely to crash
  16. As several people have pointed out, you should not look into making things reusable. Adding 'chutes and whatnot increases the cost so much that it's cheaper to just make a disposable rocket. It's why the Shuttle Program was closed, it cost too much money.
  17. It's kind of funny to think about it, really. The Mun was intended to be a tutorial on how to land on other bodies before they changed it's terrain, I imagine it's pure hell for new players now. And because of it, people forget about Minmus, which is, as you pointed out, a better choice for learning how to land.

  20. Do the probes have to be all the same? Because you could do the girders thing plus a parachute for Laythe, but that certainly won't work on Tylo...

  22. It's been a concept in my head for a while now, and I started it a few days ago in 0.23.5 with mods. The main ones being KW, AIES, Deadly Reentry, FAR, KEngineer and RealChutes. So what's it all about? Well, here it goes: I picked a few good friends of mine (who don't play KSP), explained them the game and then asked them what planet/moon would they like. So the goal is to land on every planet and moon in the Kerbol system and on every one plant a flag with a name of one of my friends who picked that planet/moon. I started with the Mun and on every landing on the plaque I wrote something about the project. The last mission will be to go to Eeloo and plant the flag for my girlfriend. I'll be keeping track of the missions below: Moho - Eve - Gilly - Mun - done (2nd mission), the plaque says: "Our journey continues, bringing us to the Mun, we have only begun..." Minmus - done (1st mission), the plaque says: "Here begins our journey to conquer the Kerbol system, we have a lot of work to do..." Duna - Ike - Dres - Laythe - Vall - Tylo - Bop - Pol - Eeloo - Also, I'd like to hear your opinion on this project.
  23. Well, the game asks you what mode you want when starting a new game and you can choose "science" to play without contracts. But I see you said "loading save file" so I'm guessing your save is from 0.23.5? If it is, I have no idea how to fix it.
  24. To me, the funds don't pose a problem, as i have tons of 'em, but it's a good feeling when you have 96% recovery rate and a completed contract. But I'm sure realism mods will soon emerge to deal with "too much money"
