  1. "The 'X'. I know what you're thinking. Um, it's a marketing thing. You see, I wanted to call the show 'Going to Other Planets', but Research says that shows with 'X' in the name get higher ratings." "Wormhole X-Treme" Stargate SG-1: The Complete Fifth Season. Writ. Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie Dir. Peter DeLuise. MGM, 2004. DVD. This is a part mod in early development. Updates will be posted.
  2. Okay, hope this time counts. I was coming in to steep so I had to do a flyby. 1 Circumnavigation (almost two with sheer distance) 5 Hours 19 mins 50 secs Things I hope I don't disqualified for: I had pizza while flying. Jumbo jets require air but they don't show it in the resources tab. The plane stop 1.7 kms away from the end of the runway. Then I taxied it to the KSC. BTW: Is this the biggest entry, and if so, can i get a special award.
  3. Oh, I wasn't loosing parts. There were no parts left after the crash. Just thought i would share my epic fail after 13 hours sitting at my computer. lol Don't worry, I'm making an even bigger/slower plane for my next attempt. But some sleep first.
  4. So i made an attempt. 400 ton aircraft. Mission time of 5 hours 30 minutes. With physics lag and flying at 1x speed so it wouldn't fall part, It took me 13 hours in real life. It didn't loose any parts till the sudden end.
  5. I see all very small vessels. I'm wondering if it's possible to do the challenge with a Mk 3 fuselage with a big wing span and let it coast around kerbin? So far I have been unsuccessful with a design.
  6. Ya, I got it down to around 1.29. BTW, I assume the mass spec doesn't include the payload? right?
  7. Well, reducing the center engines to minimum thrust helped. I also realized that my version was 200 tons lighter then the concepts. The booster were to small so I made them bigger. Now the rocket shouldn't have problem with bare tanks, but the fairing is creating lift and breaking the rocket right under the fairing. Edit: I used KOS to control the throttle.
  8. I assigned the engines to groups, but I can't find the icon to control the throttle while I'm flying.
  9. Recently I have been fascinated by the work SpaceX has been doing. I'm using Realism Overhaul with FAR I think I'm pretty close to a realistic Falcon 9. Engine specifications, max payload, vehicle mass, and burn times are equal to released information. Fuel mass and fuel mix ratio are close to estimations on the web. It can get the max payload of 13,000 kgs to 125 km orbit. The Falcon Heavy has some serious issues with FAR. the Falcon 9 has an approximate initial TWR of 1.2. The Falcon Heavy based directly on concept drawings has a TWR of 1.7. It quickly gets to 300 m/s and promptly explodes due to atmospheric stresses. Falcon Heavy V2 came as a result of the Far problem. I added more fuel till the initial TWR was 1.2. This allowed me to get the max payload of 53,000 kgs to 125 km orbit. So the question is: Is there some way to keep the size of the Falcon Heavy Boosters closer to the concept? BTW, version 3 was a logical progression of the technology. With 6 boosters instead of the heavies 2 boosters. I was able to get 130 kgs to 125km orbit.
  10. This is currently what I'm working on. It's as close as I can get to the real falcon 9 while in KSP. Although I could have better twr, I chose to limit some of the engines to have the same thrust as the real life counter part. Current costs of both stages and the fuel payload is 175,360. Cost of rocket without fuel (hopefully close to the recover cost) is 139,686. Payload is 13 tons of fuel and costs 1102. What I hope to do is use KOS to launch, separate and land the first stage, get into orbit and dock with a station. Two questions though: One: Since I may be taking an arched trajectory that may result in my first stage landing far from KSP. Isn't this going to affect the score? Two: Can I use a stage recovery mod to save states of my vessel while piloting the separate stages.
  11. So... I was thinking of possibly roleplaying KSP in hard mode. I thought I would impose a few rules on myself such as: Hard mode No Kerbals Can Die Use little or no data from outside the game So this is what I'm thinking of doing: Creating a story Creating Mission Plans Creating Missions Reports I have added a few mods so far which I believe enhance realism. These mods are: TAC - Life support KOS Remote Tech I do not want to add any mods that add parts. So, what is everyone's thoughts? What should I include in a roleplay of KSP?
  12. So guys I made this beast, It gets 5 kerbals docked at the fuel station orbiting Kerbin for a 922 LF and 350 Oxidizer and 50 Monopropellant. On Some flights I got the total cost to be $900, but the problem is trying to use this on Laythe. While that much fuel isn't a problem from kerbin surface, the amount of fuel needed to get that much extra fuel and have everything returned is enormous. It would take two of the largest NASA tanks if I try to add more then 1 nuclear engine to reduce the time from 2 hours and that would only reduce it to 1 hour 30 minute burn time. Getting that much fuel into orbit using my fuel version of my SSTO would take donzens of trips. So what do you guys think would be the best solution, should I make a ion SSTO for Laythe? There is a 300 part limit on my ships because my computer is trash.
