  1. hi, when your rescue vessel is within 5km(?) of Loble (or anything controllable) you should be able to switch to it with the [ ] keys. but you need room on your ship to take him on board! so if you only have the small command pod available you'll need to empty it in the VAB and send the ship up with a probe core and empty command pod. i forgot to empty the pod too many times on rescue missions good luck
  2. can you please post a picture of the rocket that brought you the furthest? it's definitely possible, i'm sure you'll get some good tips here if people can see how your spacecraft is built. and what is your technique to get to the moon? there are plenty of guides on how to make the transfer most efficient. check youtube if you haven't already. edit. if you didn't change the difficulty options there should be a lot more science points to earn around kerbin i think.. here are some from the top off my head. goo pods - in low kerbin orbit, high kerbin orbit, flying over kerbin, landed on every biome science jr. - same crew report - flying at kerbin, low kerbin orbit, high kerbin orbit EVA reports - from low kerbin orbit over every individual biome, landed at every biome surface samples from every biome. there are some small unique biomes at KSC too, like the launchpad, runway, spaceplane hangar, KSC grounds and those tracks leading to the launchpad contracts are also a good source of science points
  3. made some good progress today after a few days of mostly failures. i docked another module to a refueling station in LKO, a few more and the station will be finished. i also installed KAS and placed some struts on it as it started to flex. then i did some preparations for a big rover mission to minmus. first a bunch of contracts for funding, launched a manned satellite to the mun to get that last bit of science i needed to unlock wheels, and finally put together a low-cost rocket to lift all the modules and rovers to minmus. the idea is to recover the lifting stage with parachutes by putting a probe core on it. the next stage to complete the orbit can be re-used for the transfer after refueling at the station in LKO, and should hopefully have enough fuel to return to kerbin for recovery after dropping a payload in minmus orbit. i'm doing all this because i'll probably need to launch many rockets to get all the parts up there. i also made a small recon rover that can take off and land vertically on landing legs (basically a small rocket with wheels on the side). this will be used to test this new carrying vessel. it should be capable of deorbiting and landing on it's own so i can recon for a spot to build a small base. now i just have to work out a bigger rover with all the science equipment, a skycrane, design a small base to refuel the rovers and landers and to store the data in a science module, and probably some other things as well. eventually i'd like to recover all the data from all biomes in one go with the skycrane that was used to build the base. the initial recon rover has a docking port on the front (top) so it can be used as a tug to help with the return to kerbin and thus i can keep the weight of the skycrane itself down a bit. this will be the biggest mission i have done so far and a few of these things like the ground base are new to me so it will be a nice challenge
  4. maybe you can stabilize your current situation by strutting the asteroid to the vessel with KAS or that other mod, and correct the imperfect center of mass/thrust alignment with ALT+(direction). i'm just not sure if you can place struts on an asteroid
  5. today i wanted to put a probe in orbit around the mun to complete science contracts. so 2 probes were sent on the same launching missile. once there i found out the LV-1 is not an RCS engine, i placed RCS tanks on the probes. so now i have 2 probes going in the same trajectory bound to crash into eachother in the near future. to make things worse i forgot that the thermometer, the only on-board science instrument, doesn't work in mun orbit.. then i de-orbited the useless rocket and somehow landed it on the engine, on a slope near this arch thingy while just yesterday i toppled a wide-ass lander with 6 landing struts on flat ground. this game...
  6. the Kraken is this annoying little bug that likes to poke a glowing hot metal bar into the butt-cheeks of physics. it sends vessels flying off at the speed of light, usually in tiny pieces. but it doesn't happen often. some people have managed to reproduce it with clever craft designs, that was why i was thinking it might have been your spacecraft.. this may be a stupid question, forgive me for asking. do you keep the thrusters activated until you reach 70km? because this will raise your apothingy way way higher than 70km and possibly out of kerbins SOI
  7. strange. have you tried with an different craft? maybe the one you're currently using summons the Kraken somehow.. and what altitude are you at when the orbit changes into a line? yeah a vid or some pics would be nice
  8. well that's weird. do you have the sun set as the target maybe? kerbin orbits around the sun so when you orbit kerbin you technically also orbit around the sun.. is it just the stats that are off (altitude, speed etc.) or is your craft not being influenced by kerbin's gravity?
  9. that's impressive.. how were there no explosions?
  10. well, i had no intentions of reaching space today. my first experiments with launching things from a cargobay while in flight went very wrong tho
  11. ah yes, just noticed you were taking about baton5's creation. sorry. i'm curious about that too actually..
  12. hi cantab, the thing with the orange tank is a slightly over-engineered refueler for my kerbin vehicles.. but it took forever to get somewhere so i strapped a jet to it.. i'm not sure what you mean with the 'front wheels floating ahead'... here is the .craft file maybe it helps http://filebin.ca/1ZW35ebosYAl/fueltruck.craft
  13. guys i think he is talking about the 'rover base' object.. you know, that tiny white box that most of us probably never used because it's kind of useless?
  14. nice.. just caught myself wondering 'how many struts they had to put on that thing'. enough ksp for today. to the above, this is not an 'only in America' thing btw.. tractor pulling has become quite popular in europe over the last decades. stupidly overpowered but nice feats of engineering, just like that jet truck
  15. expanded en re-fueled my old small fuel-station orbiting kerbin. it now serves as a parking lot for tugs. it can hold 3 atm, and although it doesn't hold a lot of fuel it's enough to support the atomic engines in this pic the refueling vessel and a small tug are docked to it
  16. i believe the ISS was launched on an old seabed somewhere in kazachstan, which is now a desert. could it be that the kicked-up dust and hybernated plankton attached itself to the vessel?
  17. some experimenting with airplanes.. then i got the idea to build something to clear the endless debris of the runway then i made something to refuel it but it was a little slow.. so..
  18. so much trouble for some screws.. i stick to my previous solution. burn it. it's fun
  19. i think you're doing it wrong.. i had plenty of money to start messing around after some missions :s anyways if the economics turn you away from the game why don't you try science mode or sandbox as stated on page 1?
  20. pf that game lasted 5 minutes here. reminded me of childhood.. brother breaks my lego tower, i push over his. both cry. moderator mommy bans us both from legoland. never understood the minecraft hype anyways. and i agree, ksp community is awesome. all the old-timers here should be proud. btw, if you want a glimpse of the worst community ever, play rust.
  21. nice, thanks. never bothered to check out the action groups because i figured it would be a hassle to set them up. now i know it actually takes less time to set it up than to deploy a bunch of solar panels manually i'll defently experiment with that nice editing too, even without sound (i'm at work) everything is perfectly clear. good one
