  1. this might be a stupid question, but i can't figure out how to attach the last part of a chassis in VAB. i want the piece to be attached to 3 other pieces to complete the outer structure. a square for example.. how to attach the upper part to the left and right parts simultaneously? thanks
  2. if you can relocate the front wheels to just in front off the center of mass, i think your single rear wheel design might be more stable on take off.. might.. but it might also tip forwards and crash while landing. maybe you can avoid stress on the rear wheel by not touching the pitch until you have good speed and lift. if i remember correctly, in the movies the single rear wheel of those WWI/WWII fighters always cleared the ground before the front wheels. probably to avoid the problem you are having
  3. once you get a few 2-3star contracts its quite easy to get money.. but yeah.. alt+F12, there is a contract section somewhere. just accept a bunch of them and click the 'complete' button next to the contracts in the alt F12 menu and you get the rewards. did it once early in the game and i started a new carreer after.. it's just not as fun without the money element imo..
  4. *quickly smears the thick soup all over skin* your radiation can't harm me now! i scrape a slimy, now syphilis infected soup residue of my genetalia and sling it in the general direction of the next poster
  5. i agree, the rush of your first succesfull landing on a body is quickly replaced with boredom and 10 minutes later you are already constructing the next spacecraft.. sometimes it feels like 'i just did all this trouble to plant a flag and walk a circle why should i do it again?' it would be nice if an independant way of gaining funds would be implemented in carreer mode so we don't have to do the same contracts over and over again after completing the tech tree. it could even give a purpose to your own missions, for example in the form of government funding for every RL hour a surface base or orbital station with the right modules has (in-)direct contact with KSC trough com. satelites. your own lovingly crafted bases would be practical instead of just pretty to look at, and they would pay themselves back, eventually with profit so in long term you get less dependant on contracts as you expand your space program. something similar to the above in vanilla could add a crapload of goals and missions you can set up for yourself without having the feeling that it's a lot of trouble for something that has no practical use what-so-ever. i know the devs will eventually add more 'goals' and that gameplay is more important now so i'm sure this 'emptyness' will fade as future updates come and go yes i know.. 'sandox'.. 'mods'..
  6. are you planning on re-using the wooden boards? if not, isntead of removing the screw remove the wood itself.. split the wood around the screw with a hammer and chisel to loosen it's grip on the screw. or go the easy way and put the boards on fire
  7. i think center of lift only shows aerodynamic lift. (wings) (edit. this is probably wrong) maybe it's off center because you have more drag on one side of your rocket than the other.. your struts on the lower stage are not symetrical and you misplaced a fuel line(?) on the tank nearest to the center of lift. but i don't know if struts and fuel lines have a drag value
  8. try it the same way as you did before, but get some more fuel on your lander and compensate on your lower stages for the added weight. my first moon mission ended like this as well and the 2 rescue missions with similar stick-like landers too. i made a completely new lander, a science lab module (to store all the data the 3 stranded kerbals collected) with a small pod on top, and 4 t-400 (or something like that) fuel tanks attached to the side for stability, each with the (R-90something?) engine underneath (the small economical ones). and some thrusters for landing.. used it for everything from getting orbit around the moon after the transfer to the landing at kerbin using only 3/4 of it's fuel and it got 2 kerbals back good luck edit: you could also leave him there you know.. makes 'plant flag on mun' contracts very easy. that's why i left a guy behind
  9. this. i measured 27° while landed on the icecaps at kerbin's north pole the other day
  10. a demon (and one of the 7 princes of hell) who was aught to be responsible for sloth back in the days when people still believed in this crap. he was worshipped in the form of a phallus.
  11. i chuckled.. reminds me of jeb tipping his lander by bumping into the crew hatch with the jetpack
  12. nice one 6 part orbital space station.. no problem. but a simple take off, turn and landing with plane results in persistent failiure on my part. i love this game edit: thanks guys i followed the advise and the airplane is a lot more stable now. i noticed a little airstrip on the island near KSC and went for it. so much easier now without the excessive rolling
  13. okay.. after a few hours of crafting numerous paper airplanes with differently angled 'control surfaces' in various locations i have come to the conclusion that aerodynamics are confusing. dihedral.. had to google that. i'll try it thanks
  14. that's some usefull information there.. thanks Pecan, thanks Cantab i put the control surfaces near the tip of the wings. i'll put them closer to the hull i don't think i have the small control surface.. i'll check that when i get home.. i might just hit myself in the head if they are in the parts list and i looked over them the entire time.. for the sake of simplicity there are only 3 of them on everything i've built so far.. one on each wing, and a tailfin. i like that idea, turning off roll on the main wings and using some winglets to roll the craft instead. i'll try that. cockpit torque must have been on.. didn't even think about that.. thanks i'm sure these little adjustments will make a big difference! you saved many kerbals from certain death today
  15. maybe you burned in a direction that allowed the moon to 'catch up' with you or cross your path again, puling you back into it's SoI? or you did an adjustment burn in the wrong direction somewhere during your escape.. so many times i confused the front of my ship for the engine.. so many kerbals lost..
  16. nice! didn't know there was a thing like 'precision mode'.. and yes.. i just looked trough a plane tutorial again and realized i've been doing the Com/CoL thing wrong looks like i have to gather some more sciene then.. thanks
  17. hello, is it possible to adjust the amount of roll on winged aircraft somehow? i don't have all parts yet in carreer mode so i usually end up sticking a standard control surface to that wing that comes without control surfaces. the problem is that the rolling motion is.. well.. violent. usually a small tap on the Q/E key rolls the vessel almost 90 degrees so i always end up over-shooting the runway while trying to level out the plane for landing :/ could i be doing something wrong during the build? i always try to get the center of lift just in front and a little above the center of mass. i tried lowering the center of mass but there is only so much i can stick to the bottom before it starts scraping the ground on take-off thanks
  18. sent a second resque mission to the mun.. mun population : 3
  19. hello, first of all i wanted to say that it's so nice to see what's going on here on this forum. everyone is so supportive and the devs are making such an effort to interact with their player base and even get them involved. very nice so.. since i got this game, 3 long days ago, one thing really got under my skin. when my moonlander was not-so-graciously tumbling down a krater on the mun for 30 minutes before exploding.. he smiled. all the way.. when eh.. 'he' .. accidentally bumped his his best friend and collegue bob into the endless darkness with the rocket while Bob was EVA.. he had his happy face on when my 6 hour attempt to build a space station was disrupted by an accidental tap on the shift button he looked like he had the time of his life in there.. there and then, i swore i would take that smile of his green cheery face. today was the day. sorry for wall of pictures.
