  1. A long time ago I watched a Scott Manley video where he had a plugin that introduced a lot more and unique science messages. I am googling my heart out but without the name I can't find anything. Can someone point me in the right direction?
  2. Drill looks amazing. Is the whole game going to get updated to that level?
  3. Before I called it quits early this morning, I attempted to put a satellite in mun orbit and lost comms with it and it ran out of power. Not sure what happened. 38k funds wasted. Have to try again. I am trying to be more efficient with my rockets so i can get the 3 million needed to upgrade R&D building.
  4. I agree with many here. So much more can be done with this system. I think tying xp to contracts or role relative actions would be a good start. I think capping xp per planetary body is silly. But diminishing returns makes sense.
  5. I think I finally got a good comes network up around kerbin. Allowed me to fly a satellite out to Minmus so I think i am getting the hang of it. Also took my orange suiters to Minmus and harvested 900 science! Without cheating on fuel! Very happy about that. All orange suiters are now level 2 as well. For tomorrow, the Minmus base!
  6. I think Remote Tech adds a critical function to Satellites. In Stock KSP satellites are pretty much one trick ponies. They complete your contract and then are forever space junk. I think the best approach is to make remote tech optional in the career settings. Maybe default only in hard mode.
  7. Where do I put the module manager.dll ?? Thanks.
  8. So i have been having fun putting up satellites to fund my space program. And really had fun using an in-place Minmus satellite to then conduct low altitude thermal readings. And even set the satellite down on the surface to get the last reading. However I failed on another trip to the mun. I tried to get the 3 kerbal capsule set down and had to use all my stages and even then still had to use infinite fuel to set the return stage down without killing all of my orange suiters. So now they are stuck until I figure out how to build a proper mun lander.
  9. Well I had to cheat today. I had to enable infinite fuel to get Bob off the Mun. I am terrible at this game. I really need to learn a bit more of science. I tend to play this game like a kerbal and just try and add more thrust. That just doesn't work well.
  10. I just saw someone post "This isn't what KSP is about." The context is the career mode and it's restrictions. Look, none of us have ever been qualified to say what KSP is about. We haven't even been playing a KSP game until two days ago. We have all been playing what was essentially a tech demo. This is the first version of the actual game anyone has played. So .90 IS WHAT KSP IS ABOUT. This is it. A lot of folks got used to doing whatever they wanted however they wanted to do it. That was because we were playing a tech demo with hardly any objectives or progression restrictions. Does anyone really think they were going to let you rocket to orbit with your first vessel and bring back 1300 science in the finished career mode? If you want sandbox play that. But this career mode is the game. Yes it needs minor tweaking, that's why it is published as a beta. But the career mode makes the game. Players in general want a defined progression path. Devs have to give players benchmark s that feel worthwhile. Remember that we have all been involved with is as testers. IE we are a little more invested than your average game consumer. The Devs want this to be a commercial success, and that requires a solid career mode with defined limits and barriers so players have something to work towards. I just had to rant a bit against this idea that we alpha testers somehow know more about what this game is and it's direction than the developers.
  11. I agree jet technology should be lower. However you can by pass landing gear for a while by using chutes. I made a vertical take off jet using SRBs. The cockpit was detachable. I made two airborne surveys then jettisoned the cockpit over ground target.
  12. I will say this:the mission to test the booster above 4 800 meters at 480 m/s is impossible with early parts. I am going to have to cancel it. Not cost effective at this point.
  13. Last night i narrowly avoided bankrupting my space program. I upgraded my VAB to level 2 and had 18k funds left. I managed to build a rocket to perform two fairly lucrative parts tests and saved the program. This also allowed me to get the basic jet parts. I launched my first jet using 4 SRBs, did two surveys and then unlocked landing gear. I am well on my way now.
  14. Playing in normal here. I don't think it is too hard. I do think some of the contacts come out of order. The contract system needs tweaking. You should never lose money on a successful contact. Yet many early contacts won't even pay what the part costs. I do think contract progression and payout could use tweaking. And the tech tree could probably use some tweaking. Or offer different tech trees.
  15. Level 5? Good grief! I just got my three guys to level one. I feel like a rank amateur when I come on these forums. Passing the Mun with level 1 buildings seems impossible to me. And I am too chicken to let kerbal die. I revert a lot
  16. I do want to put my vote in for moving plane way down the tech tree. Seems very backwards to how aviation and space exploration progressed. Landing gear are way to high in the tech tree for one thing. It is really hard trying to do precision flyby surveys with primitive rockets with no guidance. basic jets should be the first thing we try to fly with in my mind.
  17. I agree on all counts. I passed the jet contract by just attaching the engines to a rocket and staging them. They don't actually have to operate normally. But that does seem very odd to make us test jet engines with no intakes. And yes, some of the missions are quite difficult early on. Either becuase it's very hard to pilot to a specific point (survey) or because of the VAB limitations.
  18. Okay so how do earn pilot xp? I got 1xp for my first launch and nothing since. Loving it otherwise so far!
  19. Just recently fired up KSP again today and am experiencing a lot of trouble. 1. Can't get S1 SRB solid boosters to connect to more than one TT-70 radial decoupler 2. Can't get subassemblies to connect together. 3. Having a lot of issues with parts not wanting to snap together, they will only connect at very crazy angles. I don't remember having such struggles a few months ago. What is going on? (The only mod I have is MechJeb2)
  20. Orbited Duna with a science lab. Also returned my first Minmus lander without cheating.
  21. Thanks for the responses. I have done more reading today and your posts have convinced me that I will attempt to rescue him again. I will watch some of the suggested orbital rendezvous videos when I get home.
  22. Just after midnight this morning I cheated and used infinite fuel to return my first Mun mission. I got of the Mun but didn't have the fuel to escape to Kerbin. I am slightly ashamed but was so frustrated after two failed rescue attempts to get Jebidiah out of extreme Kerbin orbit. I wasn't abandoning Bill.
  23. So I am currently mourning the loss of Jebidiah. He is currently in a 5 million km orbit over Kerbin in his some suit. He has quite a bit of science on him from Minmus. Do I need to kill him to be able to redo my Minmus experiments for full science? He will be sorely missed.
