  1. In my previous career I used the Funds to Science one early on, but then cancelled it when I needed a bailout and when I got myself picked up I didn't bother starting another. In this current career I gave it a glance and didn't bother. I do agree the strategies need a fair bit of revision. But there definitely isn't a rush for it at this point. I'd rather see things get more solidified with the game before trying anything ambitious with the strats. Because I rather like the idea of having strategies having an influence on what contracts appear. Such as if you show a leaning to wanting science, then you get contracts to establishing orbital stations, gathering scientific data from locations, etc. If you lean towards gathering funds, then more VIP and tourist contracts would definitely fit there. It would be a challenge to get a system like that together, to be sure.
  2. When you can keep it under control in a well-balanced craft. Have anything out of place and it becomes a weak point in the heat protection...and boom.
  3. If you are in a career, can always start a sandbox save on the side and just tinker with wacky designs. See if you can get a double decker bus into orbit. Try to drill into the launchpad, or into a kerbal. Just need a pointy part and a way to stabilize the pointy part as you spin and thrust it downward. Practice your mortar skills and launch dumb rockets at the abandoned runway from the KSC, seeing what gets the closest with zero inflight manipulation by you.
  4. You do realize much of Squad took a break from work for a while? While it may be over with with them back to work, expecting a fix now is rather unrealistic, as they aren't going to focus on just one thing just to throw a patch out. Get over your self-entitledness and show some patience.
  5. It would definitely help build awareness of KSP if the big Youtubers who try it on their channels actually treated it like a game as opposed to something to heckle immaturely at. People who don't know KSP and see that, they are just going to dismiss it.
  6. Feel free to go to an earlier version. No reason to ask the developers to go out of their way for you. 1.1.2 has its issues but they actually aren't terrible. I actually expected something like this with such a big change going to 64 bit.
  7. Don't you mean one night?
  8. I do believe this is addressed in this thread and as stated in there by NathanKell, it is being worked on.
  9. That's actually been up there for a while now, or at least re-introduced twice before this once. I feel kinda bummed it isn't already signed up and implemented yet.
  10. Yeah, establishing a higher orbit is easier and cheaper. It's getting up there where the difference lies. But remember, once you make orbit, you are halfway to anywhere.
  11. I wonder if it might also be related to what happens to my craft during change in SOI. Such as when I go from Kerbin SOI to Mun SOI, my not-very-large craft will lurch and the Ap will suddenly have a significantly different number.
  12. Never take a release date as written in stone on Amazon. Amazon and third-party marketers that sell through that site have a bad reputation of making up release dates just to push sales. It's not even at Amazon alone that you see this. Places like GameStop and others do this dirty deal because a release date makes a product look more appealing to put money towards. That is one of the big reasons why you do NOT ever pre-purchase. All you are paying for is a place in line and not the product itself. The company has zero legal obligation to deliver the product to you at the promised time.
  13. The trouble with some Youtubers is you can't be certain all the time if they are just trolling. Anymore I don't really look for KSP Youtube vids as most of them don't take the game seriously, and the others play with so many mods you can't even tell out the original game. Even Scott Manley has been getting mod-heavy and it bums me out, as once upon a time he was more about doing flights with no SAS at all and flying purely by stick. The usual best source for KSP LP's has been Twitch, with those who contribute to the KSP channel. Shame Spooty fell off the KSP wagon, though. But as for OP's statement, there are lots of ways you can get a copy. Begging for someone to give it to you or pirating it are not ways to do so. Start saving up and buy a gift card or the like that is feasible to your location, and in the meantime give the demo a whirl. The demo alone has a lot to it to keep you busy for quite a while.
  14. This is where you need to chill out on the self-entitlement. 'I'd prefer, I think....' It's this attitude that can turn people away from taking you seriously and reveals you have zero concept on what goes on with the development process. As of the last update, the game may have its flaws at the moment, but they actually are not game-breaking. There are plenty of threads here that give help on dealing with crashes and other minor glitches. Taking the time to scope them out will help you a lot. While the developers are out on much needed and deserved break, the community is still here to help each other out. Sitting in a corner with your arms folded grousing about things doesn't help you or anyone else. You can either continue to do nothing, or you can find out more about what is going on with your experience and see if anybody is experiencing the same. That's part of the fun of PC gaming. There will always be hiccups that are unique to a certain set of systems while others are not affected. And it isn't always because the unaffected ones are merely running a better system. That is also why finding bugs and fixing them can be a difficult affair. Much more difficult than you seem to comprehend. For the time being, we are all back in the seats of being early release testers. With this upgrade, the game has taken a huge step forward but in exchange has opened up a whole new Pandora's box. There are going to be more difficulties yet to overcome before KSP 64-bit is a solid release. But it is worth the two steps back as KSP 64-bit actually presents so much more potential to the game than what we had before. And it was released at an alright time. From what I have seen visiting the threads, it is not a broken mess for most, and my own experience has actually improved by taking some measures to improve my own system's performance. The developers will come back feeling refreshed and ready to take on what was left on the backburner for 1.1, and that will make getting 1.2 a lot easier to put together. They are doing just fine.
  15. It is possible to achieve escape velocity. But Kerbin's Sun's SOI is infinite so you will never actually leave it. OT: Both Voyagers are powered solely by their RTG's, as solar panel technology at the time of their inception was rather lackluster. The panels would have been useless beyond the orbit of Mars and therefore deadweight through their primary mission. Even Galileo, the next probe to visit Jupiter after Voyager 2, was only powered by an RTG. It wasn't until the probe Juno when it was felt solar panel tech was advanced enough to actually provide enough power to the probe out that far. If you want a solar-powered probe for Jool and Eeloo, you will definitely need the large solar panels, as even the smaller banks will be useless and you won't want to put too many on as that would just turn into weight you would need to compensate for in fuel. It would definitely be fun to go for a gravity-assist by Duna to get to Jool. Just don't be surprised if Ike butts in and throws you either into Duna or on a perpendicular course of the plane of the system. Ike is very naughty like that.
  16. I'm not much for the inflight test contracts, but if that came up I think I would honestly be tempted to try it. Don't give up. Sounds like you are so close that you may need to change but one part to achieve what you need.
  17. You don't have to wait for practical, though. The Skipper alone is enough for interplanetary travel, and can easily take probes to Duna and Eve for some prospective science. So, the writing isn't on the wall. There is absolutely no reason to wait until you got the ideal assortment of parts to get a probe mission going. Or even a kerballed mission with a chance of return or long-term base. You don't even have to focus on any early interplanetary missions, and instead get them launched and enroute, and then focus on local missions in the meantime to build funds for a bigger follow-up interplanetary mission. For example, send a probe to Duna, get some nice science that would still net a nice return through transmission, and have that science to give you a jump towards that ideal craft you'd like to build. Sitting on your hands grinding to that ideal figure seems a bit ludicrous, actually, as there is already so much possible to do without NERVAs.
  18. That's just weird, man. We may have to shun you for such heresy.
  19. As someone who landed on the Mun with tailfins, before landing legs were first introduced, I always approve of creativity like that. To turn this topic on its head, another part I would love to see an additional use for is the drill. It could definitely be used to collect soil samples on probes that you would need to bring back to Kerbin or the KSC if already on Kerbin to get the science for.
  20. With heat having become a big factor in gameplay recently, one thing that's frustrated me a bit has been not knowing exactly what is going on in the ship. The only telltales I have noticed thus far is how radiators and engines radiate, and maybe the occasional temperature meter that comes up for the part. I wouldn't mind a way to have more than just an idiot glow to go off of, so I got to thinking, why can't the thermometer be able to be set to measure interior heat? Of course, it could be set to measure exterior heat for science, but why not a setting to give a gauge on how well the core is doing? With antennae on the verge of being given additional duties for communication between vessels, I am wondering if there are ideas with other science parts that can do an additional practical function?
  21. I enjoy the opposite. More generous science returns but less for funds, and a hefty reputation penalty to really spice it up. You may get new parts released faster, but without the funds to upgrade facilities as quickly, then it becomes a challenge to meet within weight, height, and part limitations. And if you can't upgrade R&D or the Astronaut Complex so soon, then that's less access to science, EVA's, and collecting ground samples. I suppose this is one reason I don't mind tourist and VIP contracts so much.
  22. I'm sure there is an actual sentence here, but I am not seeing it. If you are trying to argue for the merits of burning straight for Minmus without establishing orbits beforehand, that is fine and dandy in sandbox where resources are limitless on Kerbin. But in practical application, that is actually a dumb way to go. Without drilling gear, storage, and refinement, every drop of fuel you bring with you is all you get. Burning it haphazardly just to get there faster is less fuel to have for the return trip. Remember, getting to Minmus to Kerbin is one thing, but to get back to Kerbin requires you to take away all the lateral velocity you acquire having landed on or orbited Minmus. That's less fuel to have for corrections in case you end up coming into Kerbin too steep, or you may end up coming in too shallow which means you skip right out and have to spend more time waiting for the next re-entry. The fastest way to get to Minmus practically would be by using the Mun to kick you out to it, which requires just the right window to achieve.
  23. I can see this actually happening in real life, as space is not a perfect vacuum and I bet even the solar wind erodes away at craft if at just the miniscule levels. But to happen in game where it is a perfect vacuum? Fingers definitely go to a mod. For stock the only thing I can think of is high core heat perhaps affecting it. Might be worth testing a drill that is right next to a heat shield.
  24. I've only experienced crashes when staging. It should be stated that .dll files are NOT causing those crashes, and most are essential to your OS operating. The error-checking is its own entity and not the greatest in the world, most likely to only go so far to find the culprit. Think of it as a lazy and corrupt cop who is just as happy to arrest an innocent citizen just because they were in the neighborhood of a suspected drug dealer. Making sure your drivers are up to date is a big help, as well as not running anything in the background that is not essential to your current gameplay. CCleaner is a big help to getting useless junk out of the way that can also contribute to issues. However, run it manually and do not leave it running in the background, as it, too, can contribute to issues. It's not Norton Anti-virus bad but it is a bit of a memory hog. You can also use it to see if anything's getting loaded at startup that shouldn't be. Never know when something you installed decided it needed to be run at start without your say-so. Or that something even installed without your say-so. Browser toolbars, for one. Get rid of those. That's pretty much the extent that I can think of to help prevent problems. If these help, then at least it can help you enjoy your KSP experience until we get something more stable. Hate to say it, but stuff like this is to be expected with the upgrade to 64-bit. It's going to be like working with a wider brush that is likely to pick up more pests along the way. Stay patient, friends.
