  1. Maybe to herd sheep, to herd sheep, no more. How would one notice, if a mirror is hung upside down?
  2. Sometimes. According to L.A. Feuerbach: "You are what you eat." So... a sufficiently vicious cat could become a dog. Why is the hype train always travelling from left to right?
  3. Granted. The MyLittlePony story gets incorporated into KSP canon. Rockets now have rainbow exhaust. I wish for the weekend to arrive sooner.
  4. Congrats! Mark the day. that is a milestone! an early one, but an important one
  5. it's a... uhm? it looks like a... a spot. a white spot. a white spot of unknown origin on an otherwise dark and cratered celestial object... i definitively will have that in mind while waiting on news of the Ceres mission. :-D
  6. a "fo' rum" is the expression pirates are using who are Snoop Dogg fans. (if you never heard the "fo' shizzle" expression, ignore this post) What colour is Tuesday?
  7. "These boots were made for walking, and that's just what they'll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk over Eeloo." - Nancy Kernatra
  8. soo many to choose from Carbon. because complexity Hydrogen. because simplicity Helium. because alpha decay Nitrogen. because energy Silicon. beep beep beep beep beep but to choose one? Iron. Because it is the ash of ashes. the endpoint of the fusion cycle. the threshold to supernova bred elements.
  9. Err... thank you, i guess? my only advice was: other people might know, ask them :-) you are way ahead of me on the learning curve! Depending on expected life expectancy... the probably is a point in your journey, when all the fuel is used up, but the RTGs are still running strong. from then on, the RTG catches up again until a long time later the RTG wins the race. if that is still going then. I have no idea what those numbers are and have never done a mission i would need to calculate that scenario, but Nookos is talking about a grand tour, so...? *shrug*
  10. Sold to me after reading the first three words of the blurb: "Bill Murray plays..." Will definitively watch!
  11. Bumber Sticker: "How is efficient is my driving? Call 555 - MANLEY" imaspacestaion's Tshirt is unbeatable :-) would buy
  12. wow. it's not only decades old, it has been successfully done, and has actual industrial use... 0.0 faszinating... thanks for the link!
  13. That was what killed the dinosaurs... all their eggs got destroyed when someone pushed the button. Would not push. Push a button, and - magically - a new ice age starts?
  14. Well, according to the charts, the d/v difference between going to Mun and going to Minmus from LKO is 10%... 860 to 930 m/s according to the one i use. while doing a Mun gravity assist to Minmus would be a cool maneuver in itself, the potential savings are minimal. What legoclone says. a- have a circular orbit b- set a node anywhere you like c- increase AP to target orbit (for Minmus that is roughly less than 47million km) d- slide node around until you get an encounter e- fine tune by lowering AP until you have no encounter f- return to d) Sorry. I forgot. PS: welcome to the forums!
  15. nah, that just looks similar. craters look like that after erosion. but yeah, well spotted, that seems to be a huge impact crater on Laythe.
  16. Just some crazy lazy sunshine break idea while low on motivation and high on caffeine... The "Bambooquoia" ("Sequamboo"?) take a cell of a bamboo sprout. carefully extract the nucleus from one cell. take a seed of a sequioa. carefully insert bamboo cell nucleus into seed cell. let it grow. obviously you will need to be very precise with your microsurgery. i am not talking about just dumping the nucleus into the starch. rather than really inserting it into a living cell. probably several, as i doubt that a plant seed will have a single-cell stage at this time. what would happen? would it refuse to sprout? would it be a normal sequioa with some strange behaviour? a bamboo with bark? any biologists have an idea? if you try this, tell us! PS: i assume the experiment has been done on bacterial level already...? anyone knows anything about that? E.Colis with a bamboo addition? Yeast with tomatoe DNA? remember, i am not talking about genesplicing. i know about horizontal gene transfer. not what i had in mind. and not just a mix of different but whole cells, either. a complete genome. the whole nucleus - that's what i think of. and before you ask: i am not anywhere near of sufficiently sophisticated lab equipment PPS: yes, that is exactly what i mean: two sets of DNA combined. not just a replacement, an addition. "fuzzy dunlop".... :-D it's all in the game...
  17. That actually happens a lot to me. I can concentrate really hard to clear/focus my mind enough to drift into a relaxing trance eventually turning into sleep. But that takes effort. If I am too tired that doesn't work and I struggle with random whirlwinds of stray thoughts, making it really hard to relax and sleep. Of course, at the lower end of sleep depriviation you can just slip into unconsciosness... but that sucks.
  18. Thank you. *expletive-removed* I dreamed of a nice Minmus mission last night. I was flying in a capsule, collecting surface samples from all flats. When I tried to reenter, I was already inside. Twice. And standing outside a bunch of dozens Bob Kermans were telling me to get back in line, they were there first. I am pretty sure that was your post in my subconciousness.
  19. Errr... There is? It is called 'using one's brain'. I mean: Granted. It gets patented by Apple and sold as an optional upgrade to the new iPhone. Noone installs it. I wish wouldn't have overlooked an obvious bad and loosing move in yesterdays chess game.
  20. problem i see is complexity... with kerbal _space_ program all you had to model accurately was orbital mechanics, and even there liberties were taken (e.g. no lagrange points). atmospheric models used to be very rudimentary - now slightly better - but still sufficient for our purposes. no weather, no wind. but hey, who needs this in a space simulation... but as soon as you developing a physics oriented underwater game... Haloclines/Thermoclines There is suddenly sound! Currents A static waterbody would just feel like a very soupy space... Wildlife Not a single spot where you will find a magic boulder, but schools of fishes roaming around. Waves Just look at the "Physical oceanography – Waves and currents" list of topics. Just look at it. Tides probably the easiest of the list to model. And lets be honest. All of the above need to be addressed at least on an acknowledging level in a game serious enough about physics to carry the "Kerbal" name.
  21. So far we had: (classification based on my sole opinion!) Too Big: - USI Kolonization Systems - Karbonite (Plus) - Freight Transport Technologies - Asteroid Recycling Technologies - USI Exploration Pack - USI Survivability Pack Probably not: - Alcubierre Warp Drive - Lumigrids - KSC Highlighted from space Not sufficiently interesting for modders: - Sounding Rockets - Pipes for transferring resources - Reentry Sound effects - Clouds - Landing Site Approximation Just plain no: - Magic Boulder - v1.1 - Mirrors Maybe? (order of my personal likings) - Rover Wheels (because Roverdude) - Radiators (because "a very cool one") - Navigation Lights (because I would like it :-D) /my 2 cents
  22. Soooo... What _would_ you want to see in the final moments of humankinds existence? Assume a scenario fitting for the context. I.e. "moments away from total annihilation"... e.g. the Hard Rain from 'Seveneves', KT-sized asteroid approaching, sun going nova... etc. all or most of humanity is still alive and functioning, but will soon cease to be. No heroes on the horizon, no mad scramble for survival, just plain old oblivion awaiting. What would you feel appropriate to be aired on TV/Radio/Internet/Twitter? - business as usual? - commercials? - bill nye explaining in detail why it happens? - morgan freeman laughing manically? - bruce willis on his way to the launchpad? - football? Personally? I think LWT's version is near perfect! And "standing outside in nature with my loved one(s)" is not a valid answer here PS: not meant to be understood as criticism! i am genuinely curious.
  23. I grew up with electronic games which did not have individual savegames. You had to start from the very beginning to go all the way to the point you stopped last time again and again. There are probably games I still could walk through the first few levels in my sleep, but haven't seen the end more than once or twice. This is the situation with getting stuff into orbit in stock. Later, there were savepoints, were either the game actually saved, or you got a code you could write down and type in later. It did mean, that you were able to get there, but could continue venturing out from there. This is my personal feeling toward using MJ to get stuff into orbit. I do use KER instead of MJ, but only because I grew up and grew accustomed to the principle of bottom-up (here: start from the beginning each time. i know it's not the correct use of the term. sorry) building. Not because I think one is better or the other is more "pure" or one is cheating or something. /my 2 cents
  24. So.... the correct answer to OP's question would be to start gathering sticks and stones and prepare for the rematch? I hope that I would have the calm and cool to get to the highest point available and watch the show... unsure about that, though.
  25. Granted, it's incoming to your backyard at 20km/s. I wish to actually see the Kraken, not only its effects. It kinda reminds me of the Cthulhu mythos...
