Why do you need two engines? also conventional aircraft do use parachutes. EDIT: are biplanes and triplanes allowed.

Back in 0.23 I had a rocket capable of putting a probe anywhere in the kerbol system but I don't have pictures and my first working rocket (also no pictures) got halfway to duna on its first flight.

True but computers are different to fighters plus what happens when you run out of missiles? And lasers require a lot of electricity.
