  1. Significantly improved my crane: Main issue remaining is that the arm can't re-dock. Which will be problematic if I try to switch away.
  2. I built a crane: It's still a WIP. It's rather unwieldy, and has trouble lifting heavy things/lifting things on planets with high gravity. Now, let's see... ooh! I know! Let's try picking up the rover I parked at the Administration Building! It should be light enough. Woops! Anndd right into the pool it seems i too have succumbed to the pool...
  3. (done in a different save to avoid being interrupted, but other than that completely legit)
  4. First stop is Gilly: Actually, the original plan was to detach the mining ship, but I have a much dumber better idea:
  5. The pool claims another victim I don't think it'll let you switch away while airborne, even if you're stationary. --- The Meteor is leaving Jool! Duna must've forgiven me for not landing on it, because it bid me farewell. And perfect timing, because the MTU Crystal has arrived at Vanor! Now the only "landers" I brought were two Waders for Tidus. But it seems like such a waste to come all this way just to land on only one moon. So here's the plan: Gilly: Don't even need a lander for this one. Bop, Pol: The mining ship I brought will probably be able to land and return. Vall: The mining ship I brought might be able to land and return. Etal: NO. I'm not landing on a moon with 2 surface gees Tidus: Already taken care of Wish me luck!
  6. Took a 20 km trip (my longest one yet) to the less-dark dunes of the Lowlands. Ran into the flag. Classic. Luckily the flag survived. Takeoff! And so, my tour of the Jool system is complete! Now I just need to get them back home! (Duna? I have no clue what you're talking about)
  7. I drove all the way to one end of the canyon. I somehow got surprised by Jool. Who knew a gas giant could be so sneaky? Also saw Duna Then I drove across the ridge and jumped back down. Unfortunately, the lander didn't have enough fuel to return to the Meteor, so the Meteor has to come to it! Decided to use a Duna gravity assist Hi Duna! Sorry we didn't get to land on you. Maybe another time... But wait! The Ike lander has arrived! I like Ike! You like Ike! Everybody likes Ike! (bum bum bum) ... Yes The entire mission was just for that Nolas, Leouch and Dres were just afterthoughts. This was the sole purpose of the mission. it was worth it AHEM MOVING ON (actually Ike is kinda boring) On second thought, I kinda like it. Sure, there might not be any giant mountains or deep canyons, but sometimes it's nice to just have a barren expanse as far as the eye can see... (not to mention it's much easier to drive rovers)
  8. New Horizons. It reshuffles the entire solar system though, so be warned. Case in point: Dres! It's now in orbit around Jool. This time I have a target in mind. And if you know anything about Dres you know where it is. Dres Canyon! Unfortunately it was night. But that's okay! It means I get to try out my rover at night! (once the lander stops sliding...) Although now I actually have to worry about running out of fuel. Also I think I fixed the contrast getting screwed up. Actually it's just as screwed up but at least it's more visible. Unlike this text c;
  9. It hasn't been officially updated, but yes, it works. Although the KSC view is broken.
  10. I think I may have figured out what the ocean is. There aren't any lakes at the surface or anything; it's a hazardous ocean that fries you when you try to land in the rifts. Still, the rover was fun. Next up is Nolas! Maybe I need to start actively picking my landing sites. This reminds me of salt flats, with the whites and pinks... maybe I should have a taste test. But there's no time for that! To the rover! We gotta explore that giant canyon. And probably break the rover in the process. *sigh* I'm going to regret this so much. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA This is why I use quicksaves. Let's try the other canyon. Its walls look less steep. Nope. Crashed again. Let's just drive to the peak of the nearest mountain and call it a day.
  11. The Meteor has arrived at Jool! First stop is Leouch: Landing site leaves much to be desired. Now to plant a flag, and-- wait, what's that? Now my curiosity is piqued. I may have to sacrifice one of the landings to investigate further. ...but I like Ike and Dres Actually, wait a second. I have a rover! Although the trip to the nearest rift may still take a while. Not to mention the fact that I have no idea how I'd get to the bottom. But hey, I have an excuse to drive around!
  12. Well, I'm finally doing it. I'm going to Eve. And landing. Why? Because I recently discovered that Titanus has an ASL pressure of nine atm. I mean, obviously the map view was lying when it said it was 0.6 atm. But I thought it was maybe two or three atm. Not nine. So I built a lander: And I'm testing it on Eve. If it can't land there, it can't land on Titanus. (notice how I snuck in the two-giant-boosters strategy) The plan is to attach two fuel tanks, use them to fly to Eve, land, return to orbit, and use a separate recovery vehicle to return.
  13. Further proof that Titanus is cursed: I don't know if this makes my rescue mission easier or harder. (This is why I make backups)
  14. The Sundiver is in orbit around Sonnah, but it has no fuel left. Which means it's up to Jeb to bring them back! I'd like to quickly take a moment to point out another novel use of the strap-two-giant-boosters-to-it strategy: (This is also how I get my MOTHERs into space) But I digress. This thing uses nukes, which means it has a lot of delta-v. More than I could ever need. I'm thinking of replacing them with Vectors for better TWR. Now to bring them home! Just barely managed to get over water, although I'm not sure why I was so worried. This thing glides surprisingly well. And... touchdown! I bet the crew is very happy to be back, especially after originally being told they weren't coming home.
  15. Time to leave Serran Hey cool, I still have >1000 m/s delta-v! Looks like I won't have to do a recovery mission after all. Wow, even without the wingtips this thing is really floaty. 30 m/s and I still haven't fallen out of the air. Granted, I'm planning on using this on planets with thinner atmospheres.
  16. Apparently I misread. Arin's atmosphere is 0.6 atm, not 0.06. So that actually puts it on par with Serran. In that case, let's try my new and improved Duneshifter on Serran! Minor problem: I have no idea how to get it to space. Well, you know what they say: when in doubt, strap two giant boosters to it. (please let nobody actually say that) Seems to have worked. Moment of truth... Yay! Might as well plant a flag while we're here.
  17. Unlike last time, I didn't miss my encounter and happen to get a new one during the Kerbin return window. Which means the Horizon and Amber will have to stay at Laythe for a while. Which gives me plenty of time to build rovers! This one can carry stuff! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, although I'm not sure how I'll lift things onto the back. As a little test drive, I took two kerbals to the Astronaut Complex:
  18. And here we see a wild flock of spaceplanes in orbit around Laythe: They are preparing for their great migration to the lush grasslands of Kerbin The journey will be a harsh and grueling one. Let's hope they survive... (haha just kidding i deorbited all of them after transferring the kerbals)
  19. Waders 5 and 6: Also decided to check up on the Crystal. I'm so close I can see Vanor if I zoom in all the way! It's still going to be a bit less than 8 years before I arrive. Everything moves so slow in the outer solar system
  20. Alright, second Wader landed, and-- why is it missing fuel JUST KIDDING HAHA PAY NO HEED TO THE FACT THAT THERE IS NOW AN ISLAND AND IT'S DAY
  21. Returned another SSTO that I left on Serran: Meanwhile I have no idea how to rescue Franlie and Beadrine. All of my SSTOs that have enough delta-v to get into orbit around Titanus have terrible TWRs. I don't think they'd be able to get into orbit fast enough before falling back into the atmosphere. Is this what it's like to try to land on Eve? The Horizon and Amber have reached Laythe. Unfortunately, I accidentally put them in retrograde orbits. So I had to waste a lot of delta-v changing my inclination. Let's hope I have enough to get back... First landing is a success! Still no land. Which I kinda like. Just ocean as far as the eye can see...
  22. Made some modifications to my cargo SSTO: It has more fuel, but more importantly, it has bigger wings! Which makes it much easier to land. I named the original version Mk 4 because I couldn't think of a name, and I named this one the Mk 42 because it's the second one. I was trying to think of a better name, but I realized I actually like the name Mk 42. So that's what I'm calling it. The Mk 42! Then I took my new SSTO for a spin. Unfortunately, delta-v margins were a bit slim. And by "a bit slim" I mean "I ran out of fuel and had to do some aggressive aerobraking". And by "aggressive aerobraking" I mean "losing one of the wing fins and going into a tumble." Maybe if I aim my tail towards the ground it'll take the brunt of the impact... NAILED IT (despite its many injuries, my spaceplane is aspiring to be a contortionist)
  23. Did some testing with the Colossus to see if it could make it to orbit, and so far it seems promising. Only issue is the nuke's pathetic TWR. It's going to take me 6 minutes to get to orbital velocity after the ascent. I'm pretty sure by then my plane will already be scattered across Titanus. After that I built a new SSTO: It has LFO VTOL engines, so it can land on bodies without atmospheres. KER's delta-v reading is broken for some reason, so I don't know the exact amount, but the nuke seems have about 1500 m/s delta-v, and the landing engines have 200-400 m/s, depending on how much oxidizer I use during the ascent. I also built the most minimalist escape "pod" ever: More of an escape glider, really. It may not survive impact, but the Kerbal does. So technically it's a success. And finally, I built a jet. That's it. What an anticlimax.
